[Audyssey] road to rage was: Re: complains
Hi. Road to rage is a competitive first person shooter with futuristic weapons. This means nstead of being like swamp where all the players team up together against the zombies, a number of players battle in an arena trying to shoot each other until there is a winner. I believe there are several different arena types and some different types of battles, as well as mouse aiming similar to swamp. it's entirely online and has no single player mode. The developers are called dragonaps and can be found at http://dragonapps.org/ I admit I've not tried the game yet myself, but it's there for people to look into. There's not much to say about it because it is honestly a concept right now, and any complaints have already been registered. As a final note, I would appreciate it if the developer or at least someone associated with the developer would announce updates with a link as does Aprone with his games, because it makes it convenient to pull the game from the database. Other than that, I will make only one complaint. You start out with a pretty decent weapon. While this prevents camping, which means waiting at spawn points with a powerful gun to shoot people who arrive on-map relatively unarmed, it doesn't follow pretty much any other game. The MK14 is, I think, a battle rifle. It's got the third fastest rate of fire with pistols and shotguns as the only weapons below it and several above. I suggest that the player start out with either a pistol or a shotgun and that they be able to find the mk14, but I also know that ground-breaking ideas like starting out with a decent weapon make the game more popular, it's just that there's no point in using a pistol ever when you have a battle rifle and 20 clips of ammunition for it. Re: [Audyssey] Road to rage
Right, but it was not announced on0list as a playable game, which is the reason for the unpopularity. I'm not the best at keeping up with my audyssey e-ails, but I know that I'd have jumped on the chance to learn more about and play this game after hearing about it on the web radio show where I first heard of it. And as for comparing it to Swamp, it is hard not to do that. Right now, it feels like there's tension between the control schemes in place, sort of a Try both mind set, which is fine. It's a beta, after all, and I'm sure that it'll be more smoothed out and detailed once it's a full release. If we're going to compare TRTR to Swamp, let's do it fairly. When Swamp was in beta, there was no weapon specs documentation. People complained endlessly about the radar. The control scheme for movement stayed the same, but other stuff changed pretty regularly. There were a lot of bugs to deal with. That sounds pretty similar to Road to Rage at this point in development. And there's one more comparison I want to make. The sounds for Swamp were not at all finalized, een in full releases, so the fact that the ambience is loud or the different guns or bleeps are odd to some people is just a signal to try new sounds. That'll probably happen. Comparison is good, if we keep everything in perspective. Don't be afraid to make something better by standing it next to another thing. Offense shouldn't be an issue, nor should pride, so long as we who compare are neither offensive nor overly prideful in return. Enjoy the games, both of them, and see their differences and similarities. Don't expect The Road to Rage to be a PVP application of the Swamp engine. Take it in on it's own merits, of which there are plenty, and as I said before, enjoy the game. Signed: Dakotah Rickard On 7/19/12, Ben gamehead...@aol.co.uk wrote: Oh Tom. Hi Ben, That may be, but the fact is that nothing was said to that effect on the Audyssey list up until a couple of days ago. The first I heard of the game was voice requests, and nothing was said at that time that there was a playable demo etc. The next time the game came up people were wondering why the game wasn't getting much attention. Well, what can you expect when people weren't made aware that a demo had been released, the developers were not posting regular messages here on the subject, and there was very little information out here on the game? Only a few messages arrived till now about the game, and on the other hand, I see the activities online, it is always full of players. How should we explain this? Re: [Audyssey] Road to rage
Its still a beta with bugs in it. Personally I don't see the point right now of just going round picking items and fragging. The maps right now are quite small and though I enjoy smashing computers and clocks etc its really not much fun. The radar is ok but I can barely line up before I die. And I bearly get a chance to get my bearings always get turned round. Even sod had a better replay value, heck even swamp has better replay than this does. Its a beta near on alpha which is why I am not coming out and saying how stupidly totally sucky and crap it is right now. There is no story and for what it is its actually good, sounds are spot on and the concept is good being its another mouse/ keyboard shooter and bugs are being reported and things will improve. I have played loads of ghortholans stuff and its not crap, the guy did blacksquare which is hard but really good. He has also told us the game is really prerelease and I am happy he has shared it with us even though it may not be fully ready. It reminds me of counterstrike, 2 teams 1 bad 1 good. the good guys you can get more the bad guys you can't. Saying that that game was only good if you had online play and actually had either on chat or friends in the room with you that made it good. Huh crap, what a negative, absolutely it isn't I am a tester from the begnning of the project and right now is really playable. Bugs are there ofcourse, but these must be, it's a beta. Re: [Audyssey] Road to rage
The only reason I think that the game has been quietly present on list is because of the way it was marketed. This does not reflect, in my oppinion, poorly on the creator of the product. The trouble is that the first we heard about the game was that he needed voice talent. At that point, we only knew about the game in any more detail if we happened to listen to a couple of podcasts about the game or, perhaps, saw it on Audiogames.net, if it was posted there. The difference here, as I posted previously, is that Swamp was a playable game, then we received a request for voice talent. It's basic marketing that is actually quite odd that introducing a product with a request is not as effective as offering the product then making improvements based on requests for user contribution. Also, the game is still in beta, an alpha-ish beta, and I've only known about it for three full days and a little bit of today. As a wrap-up for the list, I say just talk about it. Get excited. The Road to Rage is a good concept, and it's going to grow. Don't let it leave you behind. Enjoy it. Re: [Audyssey] Road to rage
Hi Milos, Well, I can't speak for everyone, but part of the problem could simply be timing. First, as far as I know Road to Rage has only been out a couple of days. At least I didn't hear of it until a couple of days ago so I haven't had any time to download the game and play it. Second, is that it is summer and my wife and I have been out and about doing other things like walking, swimming, taking our son to the park, etc. Bottom line, because the weather is so nice I'm not stuck indoors all day playing games, chatting on Facebook, or responding to e-mail when there are better things to do outside. Something like Road to Rage might be a cool game, but I'll get to it when I don't have anything else to do such as a rainy day. Cheers! Re: [Audyssey] Road to rage
Hi Dakotah, I agree with you. The way this game has been marketed definitely accounts for lack of popularity. The first I heard of this game was Saturday or Sunday. Although I vaguely recall a request for voice actors, but I took that to assume the game wasn't playable and didn't bother checking it out until the author/developer made an announcement. Which brings us to the final issue. I generally respond to posts from game developers, and if someone says so and so has a game for download I often miss it because I don't necessarily read every post on list. Cheers! Re: [Audyssey] Road to rage
Swamp has much better handling for me- mouse and all, not to mention sounds. While it's not really fair to compare the two games...it's hard not to do. If you like PvP, I guess Road's okay since it's one of the few in that catagory, but if you like shooting games...it still needs lots of work to make it on par with SOD or Swamp in my opinion. The bleeps get a bit annoying after awhile. There's no specs on what gun does what. The directional control is confusing as heck if you don't have very good hearing. Also dies too easily when you're just learning the game- it needs a practice mode when you can at least learn to aim and navigate. Also some of those background machine sounds are way too loud. Over all, after 2 hours of play, I feel it's a so-so game with alot of growing protentials and maybe lots of replay value for those who like player killing. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Other than now, this game was just listed as a game that's in development. It sounded neat, and it is pretty cool, but without that play experience, I am actually unsurprised at the limited response to the voice acting request. I hope that, now the game is in play, people respond to it better. It is simple, but it is also new, and it has great potential. Good luck, and God's Speed: Signed: Dakotah Rickard --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org.
