Re: [Audyssey] advanced tips for Erncon?

I think that the gold fighters are what're really worth your money, as
you get double coins.
The Elite Light is good because of the infinite homing missiles, but
you don't get as many asteroid shots with those, and the missiles have
quite a short range.

The heavy fighter fires really slowly, but it has ane normous spread
and quite a range. Basically you hit with at least half your shots.
The gold medium is good, as I said, because of its high rate of fire
and good maneuverability. The elite medium and elite heavy are ...
well, odd, because the medium has the slowest rate of fire in the
entire game and the heavy is about as maneuverable as a shopping cart
stuck in glue.
Gold Fighters, as I said, do cost coins, but they are tremendously
worth it. They do more than doubling your money, useful in and of
itself. They have better defensive and offensive capabilities than
their normal counterparts.

Good luck with the podcast.

The missions differ greatly. If you want the best scores and highest game
money, play Fighter Battle. Freighter Raid is hard because ships are trying

to escape--to get away from you. Destroyer attack is hard because they are
all in one enormous fleet, and once you've found them they've probably
scored so many hits that you die, respawning and having to hunt them down
again. (Remembering where they were helps obviously, but I haven't scored
much about 50 on this mission.)
fleet battle and Destroyer Attack are essential missions to play for
completing certain challenges, where you have to destroy a certain number of

 turrets.
Just remember, hold down that afterburner button until you hear firing. At
maximum speed, a firing ship can be in and out of hearing range very
quickly, and even though the sounds are in 3d positioning it's hard to tell

since the enemy ship's gun doesn't go through a lot of the sound spectrum.
One last thing: listen for explosions. those are asteroids being destroyed,

and inside most asteroids are gems--and there's a shooting ship nearby. I
play with the music off, and am hoping for separate music volume control in

the next version. It blocks too much of the others sounds out though, like
the little snaps that indicate the picking up of gems, and so on.

2013-02-28 Thread Ken's Mail

Hey all,
I use the elite light fighter because it has homing missiles. This nearly
doubles my score most of the time. I bought the regular medium fighter and
wish I hadn't bothered wasting the game money. I had hoped it work better.
I plan on doing a podcast on the game for Applevis this weekend, if there's
time. With two kids, time's as precious as gold, but we'll see. I also have
an intensive music project underway which is a very high priority for me,
yet I can do one during breaks. So before I begin it, I need to know from
you guys what i should cov er. It seems like a lot of material as been
presented on list about this game, but that people are still quite stuck.

By the way, I'd be interested to hear your highest scores. Mine is 104.

[Audyssey] advanced tips for Erncon?

2013-01-22 Thread Ken's Mail
I posted about this before, but I don't think it got through. Sorry if it did
and you're having to read basically the same question.
I thought to myself the other day, if i spend a few bucks, I can unlock the
elite fighter and start really kicking enemy butt.
Boy was i disappointed. My score only went up about 20 points. the outcomes of
the battles were a bit different--I went from shooting shooting shooting
blowing up fighters then finding the next, to shooting, blowing up fighters,
then flying aimlessly trying to seek out that next fighter. My high score
before the elite fighter was 54. My highest with it is 74. My seven-year-old
son got 182 on his third try!
So, any tips for finding the ships and gems faster? How big is the playing
field? Are there any obstacles, and if so, are there any sounds made when we
hit them, or does it just wrap around like I would expect? I find that if I
treat the game as a side scroller I do a bit better, but it's still not great.
Help appreciated. This game's the best!
