downgraded version of JFW!

I have the same problem with jaws 8. Jaws 8 mal displays quite a few
pages,
 regardless of the browser.
I use firefox as my main browser, but jaws 8 still has bugs with that, but
 it works better.
 Also I don't recommend upgrading to IE7.

Ya know, the same thing happens to me but on Kingdom of loathing. Somehow
the frames and other links just disappear. They are there, but Jaws
 doesn't
read them. When I switch to jaws 7, they work. Also, I cannot use
 bearshare
with jaws 8, the search results are not displayed. very strange. my last
problem is I can't upgrade my jaws to the latest release. I get an error
when installing. Can ya tell I don't get along with jaws? lol.

 Hi all,
I've just upgraded my JFW, but I see something funny's going on when I
 go
into Battrick. With JFW 6, it seems fine, all the links are there, but
when I try it with JFW 8, there are only the main links, global,
community, etc, why is this and how on earth do I get the other links
 using JFW 8?
My other question is, I've been reading about this game Second Life, is
 it
accessible for us, has anyone ever tried to play this?
 Thanks

Re: [Audyssey] Battrick and JFW, and what about Second Life?

2007-04-05 Thread AudioGames.net
Hi Ari,

It's best to first understand that Second Life isn't a game, at least
according to the majority of the academics working in the field of game
studies/ludology. Second Life is a 3D environment which allows for many
things, and games are being played within this environment (mostly virtual
sex games[1], but also other types of games). There is also Teen Second
Life, which includes several games. To understand (Teen) Second Life, please
first read the Frequently Asked Questions through the following links

http://secondlife.com/whatis/faq.php (Second Life)
http://teen.secondlife.com/whatis (Teen Second Life)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_life (Wikipedia)

As you can see after reading these links, most of the content of Second Life
is user-generated. This means that people are free to constantly create and
add inaccessible stuff to Second Life. Second Life itsself (the application)
was not built with accessibility features. Still there are several people
with disabilities (mostly physical and auditory disabilities) who have no
problem with Second Life. But for people with visual disabilities Second
Life is mostly, if not completely, inaccessible. I heard some blind folks
were going to give it a go, but I never really heard the result of that
experiment. Anyone here perhaps?

There has been some discussion concerning the accessibility of Second Life
for gamers with disabilities. For an example, see this article and message
board:

http://www.it-analysis.com/blogs/Abrahams_Accessibility/2006/11/second_life_class_action.html?mode=fullhilite=13287#CM13287

The most noticable contribution came from Joshua Linden of Linden Labs, who
created Second Life:

*quote*
Hey there - I'm Joshua Linden from Linden Lab, one of the folks who help
create the Second Life platform. (The world, of course, is created by the
residents.) We are deeply committed to making Second Life usable by
everyone. A large number of Second Life residents have First Life
disabilities and enjoy the freedoms that a virtual world offers - from
communication to movement. However, we're still a very small company and
have limited development resources, so we have not been able to do
everything we want to - yet! That includes standard interfaces for
accessibility tools.

We have recently done a substantial rework of our keyboard focus code to
make things more predictable. As a benefit that was clearly in mind at the
time, this will make it easier to eventually hook up focus-based screen
readers (which typically work by interrogating the active application for
changes in the displayed text) and support alternative input technologies.
This is a much longer term project than simply saying we support the W3C
WAI since accessibility hooks are built into many Web browsers already,
whereas the Second Life viewer is a stand-alone application. (Long term, one
could hope that content-creators in-world can tag their creations in such a
way as to be more accessible once the viewer is fully accessible!)

Speaking of opening up, today (8 Jan 2007) we announced that the Second Life
viewer source code is available under an open source license. See
http://blog.secondlife.com/2007/01/08/embracing-the-inevitable/ for the
announcement and links. We strongly encourage other developers to take on
projects such as interfacing the Second Life viewer to work with alternative
input and output mechanisms such as screen readers. Don't just wait for us
to do it!
*quote end*

Well, as far as I know, not a lot has changed concerning the accessibility
of Second Life after it got OpenSource. A Google search on accessibility
second life did bring up the following interesting forum thread:

https://lists.secondlife.com/pipermail/educators/2006-August/001785.html

Hope this answers your question, Ari?

Greets,

Richard

http://www.audiogames.net

[1] I don't know if the majority of the academics working in the field of
game studies/ludology agree with this statement ;)

hi ari, don't worry! yet again they've abandoned the FC games due to
technical problems. looks like there gone for good this season too. but just
for reference, in the boxes, you put the number of runs you wanted to
declare at. for example, in mine i put 450 for first innings and 400 for
second i think.

 Hi guys,
I'm sitting here with, as you guys call it, egg all over my face! In that
box it tells you to set a first innings declaration. JFW read to me that
in
the box was -4, or something like that. I thought that was for hundreds,
or
I don't know if I didn't understand properly, but I put a five in instead.
This morning, my team start for their first FC game, and I'm going to
lose!
Why? The declared on 5 runs! I think I'll have to save the match by
setting
everything to very defensive and hoping for the best! How does this
declaration edit box actually work? Ouch!

Re: [Audyssey] Battrick

2006-09-14 Thread ari
Cool Kevin, I'll accept. By the way, I read about a very interesting way of
making money if you, like me, are near debt or if your team is quite rich.
It's true that the effect of training sessions decrease, but they still have
some benefit. What some people do, but you must make sure their's a market,
is they allocate all 10 sessions to a single player. They sort of make a
super player, and then sell him for lots of money. This of course then helps
their finance. Another thing I read is that the youth academy could also be
quite important. If you have a repaired academy building and invest a lot in
it, you aparrently do get great players from their. Also, some people think
it's a good idea to fire older players who haven't got good abilities.
By the way, my Portuguese friend and I have a joke. He says only the English
could invent such a ridiculous game where people hit the ball with a thing
and run around like that, and only South Africans are mad enough to play
along!
Anyway, battrick, cricket, and blind cricket is cool, the rest of the world
have no idea of what they're missing.

 Hi everyone,
I've made a very bad mistake with coaching in Battrick. You don't have 5
of
each type of coach, I did some experimenting and see that you have 10
training sessions. Of those sessions, you hire coaches from batting,
bowling, fielding, keeping, and fitness to fill these. Example,
3 batting, 3 bowling, 1 fitness, 1 keeping, and two fielding would make
your
10 sessions. Your sessions would then be 3 bowling, 3 batting, etc. If you
hire more than ten, those coaches just waste money (I wasted so much
resource!) So, again, if I were to hire 10 fitness coaches and no others,
all my 10 sessions would be just fitness, or 9 fitness and 1 bowling, the
 same.
The new Battrick season starts on September 10, and it's going to now also
 have three day matches!
Simon, I've found your team and have challenged you, so I think you have
to
go to your pavilion page to accept so we'll have a friendly.
Kevin, I haven't found your team yet, is it more than one word and is it
called It's not cricket? I'll look, but in case I don't find it by search,
in what region of England are you? If you want to have a friendly against
me, my team is called Uninspiring Batting, and it's in the Gauteng region
of
 South Africa.

Re: [Audyssey] battrick.

2006-09-12 Thread kevin and emma
hi, maybe the below will help. it's taken from within the sledging forum on
battrick.org. i've worked the 3 day game selection thing out so if i can
help let me know. but read the following first.

A quick guide to the new orders for First Class games...

Spell Orders? What's that about?

Hover your mouse over 'Spell Orders'

Max Overs / Min Overs / Max Runrate

These are guidelines you can set to your captain.
A spell is a period of bowling. Unlike in one-day games, there are no limits
on how many overs a bowler can bowl.

In real life, fast bowlers have short spells of maybe 4 to 8 overs. But if
they are taking lots of wickets the captain will let them bowl for longer.

A spinner can bowl almost endlessly... more than 20 overs in a spell. But if
you have a high stamina spinner, and he is being hit for 10 an over, you
want
your captain to take him off! So you can suggest how many runs you think
that bowler should be allowed to concede per over.

Example

Max Overs / Min Overs / Max Runrate

e.g. 8-4-6

His spell will be at least 4 overs, at most 8 overs, but will end if he
concedes more than 6 runs an over.

Declaring

If you are batting against a rubbish team, for example Moss Side
(4618)
in IV.24 in England, you will score many thousands of runs. But the match
only lasts 3 days, so while it's cool to spend 3 days scoring 800 for 2, the
match
will be a draw. You can set a declaration target. When your team have scored
that many runs, they will declare their innings over, and you can start
bowling
at the other team.

Following on

Imagine you bat first and score lots of runs, say 600.

Then you bowl the other team out for 100. He's so far behind that you can
force him to bat again. That's called making him follow on. i.e. he bats,
and
bats again.

Now you still have another turn left, so if he scores 501 in his second
innings, you need to score 2 runs to win.

Only the team that bats first can make someone follow on.

In RL teams don't always enforce the follow on - sometimes their bowlers are
too tired and they want to allow them to put their feet up for a bit and
normally
it is harder to bat last as the pitch cracks up.

However if one team is better than the other they will normally enforce the
follow on as in cricket you aren't just playing against the opposition, you
are also playing against the clock as you need to take 20 wickets inside a
certain time (in battrick 3 days, in test matches 5 days) in order to win.
If
you bat twice it gives you less time to bowl the opposition out twice.

Priority

Use the priority boxes to select the five or six players you want to bowl.
Priority acts like a ranking system. When a bowler gets tired, the captain
will
look to change the bowling. He will (depending on circumstances) use the
highest ranked player available.

For example, if you have two spinners, one proficient and one competent, you
might want to set the proficient spinner to priority 4, and the competent to
priority 5. That way, the captain is more likely to use your better spinner.

Hi Ian,
The season's just finished, so no new fixtures are on. If you like, you can
give me the name of your team and we can have a friendly. This is good as it
boosts player's fitness, and since I think the gate money is split halves,
you can also get some finances.

Hi Quintten,
That is way too many coaches, and I don't know if it's like that with yours
but when I had so many coaches, nearly all the training sessions were
bowling and batting, and their was no fitness. The other problem is that the
extra coaches are just collecting money for doing nothing.

Re: [Audyssey] Battrick

2006-08-29 Thread ari
Hi guys,
I have a problem when setting my orders. I'd like to somehow view my squad
while setting and arranging my orders at the same time. Can this be done? I
can't copy my squad info into a text editor, and, maybe I should try again,
but when I tried to log in with two separate browsers in two windows, the
computer got a stuck. Another question I have is, in the links section,
their are some tools to download. When I enter on the one tool, which says
it's a java tool for helping to arange orders, I get to this site where I
have to choose the free download option of the site, or the premium download
and upload option. When I chose free, it wants me to enter an access code,
but my screen reader won't read the access code to me, iether I can't find
it, or it's a graphical code, something like Word Verification. Can someone
see if they can see a code which has to be entered, or if sighted assistance
is needed, could someone download the tool and email it to me, as I'd love
to see if it's accessible and what it does. Their's also a Battrick
spreadsheet, I haven't tried that iether. Once again, they're under the
links section of your page.

[Audyssey] battrick questions

2006-08-20 Thread ari
Hi guys,
First thing I notice now is that their is now a combo box by the coaches so
instead of typing in a number, you sellect from 1 to 10. Again I'm still not
clear about the maximum number of coaches that are advisible for a club.
Another problem is that I don't know where to find the challenge thing to
have a friendly with your guys. Under challenges, their's just a thing
telling me that noone has challenged me yet, but nowhere where I can
challenge someone else. Has someone joined the irc channel, and if so,
what's the server? It says the net gamers server, the battrick channel, but
does anyone know the exact name for this server so that I can type it in?
Basically, I'm trying to find ways of turning the club around, members are
leaving, I'm losing money, am trying to stabilise the place.

hi, the issue with the combo boxes can be solved. if you open and close them
each time you want to change, this stops them resetting themselves. that's
control and down arrow to open; and control and up arrow to close once
you've selected the player you want. that's using jfw by the way. my team
is: it isn't cricket on battrick. i'm farely new to the game but i think i
know it pretty well already. so if i can help, just yell.

That's what I couldn't make out, did the mannual mean 5 of each coach, or
a

went
on everyday and changed my players training, would that benefit, or does
training count only once a week. I'll try and find you and we can have a

the combo boxes have this awful habit of somehow resetting! My teams doing

the combo boxes have this awful habit of somehow resetting! My teams doing
so poorly, for all I'm worth I'm trying to hire many PR people to get some
sponsors! I'm also not sure how many sports psychologists to hire.

[Audyssey] Battrick question

2006-08-11 Thread ari
Hi all,
Are their any Battrick players on list? I've recently started, but I've
really not had good form. I've read the manual, but I'm still quite unsure
about some stuff, example the number of coaches to hire. Apart from this,
I'm really enjoying playing the game, so would like to know who else on here
plays it, we could have a friendly.
