If such a change is made, how does a member send to the list instead of only
to the sender of the message being responded to/ My thought is that making
such a change would cause a dead list unless there's something I don't know.

 Thanks.

Thank you Che. I'm starting to dread going away on weekends or
actually spend time with my family while I'm not working. This is the
third or fourth time this summer alone that things blow up over
 immaturity.
People need to start learning how to take things off list. If things
like this keep happening, I'm going to change the list so that by
simply pressing reply, the message goes to the original sender. This
way when heated arguments get started and people just hit reply and
type out their angry thoughts, they go to the list. This will also
make it so people consciously send to the gamers list.

Re: [Audyssey] question about possible list change - Re: ATGames - Immaturity and false accusations!

2007-08-05 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hello everyone. I have some answers for you guys.

Charles. If such a change is made to the list, the easiest way to reply
to the list is when you are reading a message which you want to reply
to, you press control-r for reply, assuming that control-r is the reply
hot key in your email program that is, then you shift tab or arrow
depending on the email program, You do this to get to the to: field. By
default, the to: field will be populated with the person's email address
who wrote the message. You simply backspace so the to: field is empty
and then type in [EMAIL PROTECTED] If you have the list in your
address book, then you can type the name of the list as you have it and
the email address will be populated. This only takes around 2 or 3
seconds at most and as I mentioned, it's a conscious way of sending to
the list. In other words, you know you are sending to the list since you
made an effort to actually send to the list.

Trenton. Out list software Mailman does have a word filter capability.
The problem however, is that filtering out words like the 4-letter
common ones does not work as well as one may expect. For example, taking
the word bitch can be used in a way to really talk about female dogs
and it can be used in a derogatory way. A while back, we had a
discussion about Shades of Doom and people writing it as SOD.
Apparently, in some parts of Europe, SOD is a bad word. The general rule
of thumb is for everyone is to try and not use words which are not
appropriate in a children's television show.

Tom and I can keep the list in control most of the time. The problem has
been that things tend to crop up on weekends and that has been bad
timing for us because we are both family men who use weekends to spend
time on home projects or with our families. Someone made a suggestion to
add a third moderator to the list and this is a good suggestion, but
what we want to avoid is getting too many hands in the pot as well.
We'll figure out a method which will hopefully help everyone and make
this a positive place. All in all, the list is a very positive place
most of the time. Unfortunately the bad stands out far more than the good.

Take care everyone.

Re: [Audyssey] question about possible list change - Re: ATGames - Immaturity and false accusations!

2007-08-05 Thread Talksina
Raul, the thing is simple. Bad things happen in every mailing list all over
the world, and instead of ignoring them, people answer to flames. Someone
says my intention is just to defend my reputation from false accuses, but
the problem is that answering publicly to such bad things, means that you,
in a certain way, are hurt by those things. If you feel they do not concern
you, they are false, they do not touch you at all and you just push your
finger on the Delete key and the messages just go and, if you really feel
offended, you answer line by line off list to the interested person.
and also people who write i am going to leave, this is not any longer the
place for me, just makes the game of those bad guys. Internet is big,
internet is free, people are free to come and leave whenever they want,
without making it know to the rest of the list, who is interested just in
the topic.
I agree with people saying it should be a good idea to change Mailman's
settings to make answers come privately instead of the list. So people do
not nswer just using their fingers instead of head, and well they can do
so, but if they answer just by finger, automatic ctrl+r does not hurt a
whole community.
