Ok, I learned that doctors would fall back to tailoring (which should be renamed weaver), so presumably they would default to butcher or hunter before that. I'm not seeing evidence of that. I have a butcher shop and textile mill but my unassigned doctor stands around rather than heading off to

Hi Chris, There's a slight misunderstanding here concerning the secondary job AI. It is designed to let the out of work doctor revert to a tailor--or weaver, as the case may be, but no lower. The thinking behind this was that it would take decisions away from the player to have anybody revert

Chris, the people will only revert back a single stage in their chain. It was decided that if the people were free to shift about to even more jobs, it becomes almost a game that plays itself. Peasants spin the fur into yarn, so that's why your doctor will not do that task when he's idle.
