[Audyssey] Classic games under Windows 8/8.1?

2014-08-31 Thread Christopher Hallsworth

Hi all
Let me clarify what I'm asking here. Do the good old Classic games from
companies like LWorks and Playing In The Dark work under Windows 8/8.1?
What about those from Draconis? These are games I'm talking about and
not ones released recently. I know Shades of Doom 2.0 which is in public
beta currently works just fine under my 8.1 installation at least. Any
comments welcome. Thanks!

2014-08-31 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Christopher,

I honestly have not tried any of the older games by L-Works on Windows
8.x nor have I tried Topspeedd from Playing in the Dark. However, I
have tried some of Draconis's older VB 6 titles like Alien Outback,
Monkey Business, and Dynaman, and yes they will work. They require a
bit of extra steps to get them to work correctly as does any legacy VB
6 applications. Basically, install VB 6 dependencies, DirectX 8 legacy
libraries, and installing the games locally to avoid Account User
Control will get them to run on Windows 8.x.

[Audyssey] Classic Games was Healing Potions

2010-06-04 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Dark,
Yeah, I didn't get to play DK 64 much either. I only remember really
playing it once, and then it was more or less a trial run at that.
However, as you say it was sort of a best of Donkey Kong all in one
game.
As for the Amizons I take your point, but still I felt that calling
them Amazons just didn't fit with the Golden Ax story too much even
though they probibly meant Amazon in the generic sense. As you pointed
out Tyris seams more like a Valkyrie seeing as she had a sword as well
as fire magic.
In my encarnation of the game currently my female warrior character,
Adreana, uses a staff and I'm still working on her special magic
attack.I'd hate to use fire as that is too close to the original. I am
thinking of some kind of elemental magic like wind or perhaps ice
blast.
I'm working on a munk type character, Gabriel, who caries ashort
sword and has the fire magic as his special attack. Still working on
him as well.

Well tom, Dk 64 was unfortunately 3D again and thus unplayable for me,
however I also know it starts the dk country crew, batling against the

almost everyone from the previous ones.

As regards golden axe, well the amazons in the game weren't particularly
greek at all, just women with armour and axes that clobbered you (you can
find a description in the faq i mentioned).

I think they just called them Amazon as to mean female warrior and give a
bit of back story to Tyris flair, rather than having any set myth in mind.

In fact Tyris is probably more like a valkyri, sinse she uses a longsword.

 Beware the grue!

Re: [Audyssey] Classic Games was Healing Potions

2010-06-04 Thread dark
Sounds interesting. For the ladies magic, Hmmm, how about earth? --- this
might also allow you to actually improve on golden axe by having different
magic affects rather than just different degrees of damage.

For instance, earth magic could give you a rock shield which provides
temporary invulnerability allowing you to smack enemies, while fire
magic could give you a flaming weapon which does more damage. Wind magic
might be used for healing or speed, and thunder for a stun effect to stop
enemies moving.

All these would be stil within the scope of an action game, but provide
a litle more stratogy depending upon which character you were using.

Beware the grue!

Dark.

I agree - Elite was amazing, and they also left out space quest - while
mentioning kings quest and police quest.
