I'll give it another go and see, since I did like the principle of the game,
albeit I do have to try out most of the other blindfold titles and do
entries for audiogames.net about them, I do enjoy the arcade games though.

Challenge Scores

When I play on the iphone, I tend to rotate it and tilt. So, to turn
left, I tend to hold the phone in landscape mode with the screen facing by
body, then rotate it to the left, keep the screen still facing my body. I
have my left hand holding the left side, with my thumb resting on the left
edge, and same with the right. Sometimes, additionally, when turning left,
I will tilt the left side away from me a little, which gives it more
direction to the left.

The game was designed to work 2 ways: rotating the screen like a steering
wheel, which people who had vision at some point, know intuitively by
having driven, or watched someone else drive. It also works by keeping
the screen facing the ceiling, and lowering the right side to turn right,
or vice-versa. That's often used by preschool children who never drove a
play car, or by people who were blind since birth.

When I play the game, I combine the 2 methods. Try that and let me know.

I did wonder if it was the way (I was holding the phone, but I didn't see
anything similar happen in any of the other blindfold titles I've tried,
even the ones that rely heavily upon turning and reactions like
breakout.

all the best,

When I play on the iphone, I tend to rotate it and tilt. So, to turn
left, I tend to hold the phone in landscape mode with the screen facing
by body, then rotate it to the left, keep the screen still facing my
body. I have my left hand holding the left side, with my thumb resting
on the left edge, and same with the right. Sometimes, additionally, when
turning left, I will tilt the left side away from me a little, which
gives it more direction to the left.

The game was designed to work 2 ways: rotating the screen like a
steering wheel, which people who had vision at some point, know
intuitively by having driven, or watched someone else drive. It also
works by keeping the screen facing the ceiling, and lowering the right
side to turn right, or vice-versa. That's often used by preschool
children who never drove a play car, or by people who were blind since
birth.

When I play the game, I combine the 2 methods. Try that and let me know.

Hi,

Well, I sent this message before adding to the Subject Line. My
bad.

I'm over twenty levels in practice mode, but not satisfied with
my
performance in the Blindfold Racer Challenge. One thing that
might be
making it more difficult is that I don't hear the same way in
both ears,
though I try to position my headset to make the sounds more
balanced.
But I'm wondering, would I benefit more with a higher/lower
stereo
split? Any other tips beside the obvious volume adjustments of
sounds?

Thanks,

[Audyssey] Oops! Forgot to lock one of the doors in MOTA 17.

2011-02-01 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi everyone,

Throughout the day I have been recieving comments to the effect there
is no boss on level 1, no one has seen the Lamia, and things of that
nature, but people said they have been able to complete the level. I
began to wonder how this was possible when I decided to look at the
code. It appears that most of you who haven't seen the Lamia haven't
discovered the secret room on level 1. However, you have been able to
complete the level because I simply forgot to lock one of the doors
you have to fight the Lamia to unlock. How is that for a little screw
up. Lol!

Anyway, I have fixed that little bug and it will be in the next
release. Of course, I could release a patch, but I've just taken the
code apart to add/fix other things and it might be a few days before I
have another stable build.

Hi Lori,

Sorry, but no. the entire point of trying to hide that particular
lever in the first place is so it would be tricky to open that door.
With that door being unlocked it takes away some of the challenge I
had intended being there. I'm not really a big fan of cheats and cheat
codes.

Cheers!

[Audyssey] Oops, I screwed up my SAPI

2007-05-10 Thread Davy Kager
Yes guys, yet another one who screwed his SAPI up like no one could do. And
since I'm not really in to screenreaders/speech technology I thought the best
bet would be to ask for a solution on this list. I've seen the regular remedy a
couple of times: try the SAPI repair tool. Unfortunately, that didn't fix
anything. Uninstalling the voices didn't work either, so I'm sort of clueless
and confused. In fact, my whole SAPI 5 is gone, the non-Microsoft voices too.
Luckily the SAPI 4 engine is still alive, but hey, I'd like to play the
Kitchensinc games!

I would really appreciate any attempt to help me out.
Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] Oops, I screwed up my SAPI

2007-05-10 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
While I sympathize with the sapi problems, let's remember that although many
games use sapi, the installation and troubleshooting of sapi is not directly
related to gaming. This is one of those grey areas. I'm not saying this
topic should not be here, but perhaps replies should go to Davy in hopes
that his sapi problems can be fixed. Perhaps after they are fixed, he can
let us know what he did so that if others have a similar situation, they can
avoid unnecessary headaches.

Many thanks from your friendly co-moderator.

Charles, I think you missed my point entirely.
USA Raceway doesn't fall under the category I was referring to at all.
There is currently only one decent racing game available for the blind
gamer, Top Speed 2, and it leaves a lot to be desired for the true racing
 fan.
I'm all for USA Raceway, I was referring to using copyrighted material or
releasing yet another shooter or side scroller. It has just been done to
death, and offers nothing new of any substance for the blind gamer that we
 haven't seen before.
Again, if developers want to make this stuff, that's cool, I just prefer
to use the extreme amount of effort involved in game development creating
 something we haven't had before.
I'm sure that USA Raceway will bring things to the table we haven't
experienced in the racing genre, just as Rail Racer will. As I said
 before,
my hat is off to any accessible game developer, it is a lot of hard work
 for
not much return, I would just like to see the effort put into creating
 something as unique as possible.
But just like my belly button, that opinion is just mine.
And keep your hands off my belly button, you weirdo.

There is a need for games of a particular theme if no such game currently
exists for the blind gamer. There are tons of racing games on the
 market,
but how many can be played with no sighted existence? Hance, the need
 for
one or more that can be. I anxiously await USA Raceway. If the major

basically just blind copies of famous sighted games?

Well frankly, I think we can create very good and original games
 without
using other programmers' and sound artistswork.
I respect the work and artistry that folks like Thomas have put into
 games
like the Star Trek stuff, but I just don't see the need for it, as for
 one
thing, this type of game has been done with Star Trek sounds, and why
 risk
getting your development company in trouble with copyright lawyers?
However, I understand the frustration of Trekkies and Star Wars fans
 that
don't have accessible games to play, and the major companies have zero
interest in producing games for the accessible community.
Just my personal view, but I'd rather spend the huge amounts of time it
takes to develop a game working on something that hasn't been done
 before
 and breaks new ground.
Programming these games is tough, no doubt about it, why not push the
 envelope while your at it?
Again I'm not flaming the folks making games using copyrighted material
and releasing them for free, but it just isn't my personal M.O.
