Re: [Audyssey] Happy New Years day sound from PCS

2011-01-02 Thread Phil Vlasak

Hi Thomas,
I would have had the Sarah game finished in November if everything had
worked out.
It all started out with the reducto spell. This spell breaks through walls
and bushes and mazes.
Well I couldn't allow you to break through the walls of the castle as the
walls are actually the edge of the level, but there should be a way to get
out of the castle with this spell.

So that got me creating a new level, the Hogwarts grounds.
Which has lots of creatures and objects to add as the sneek previews show.
What I didn't anticipate is that it would take me a few months to create
this level as I had to re-think the ending of the game and re-do the
Quidditch level extensively.

Then came problems with our back up drive.
I had been saving all the sounds and changes on this drive keeping the
latest version on my C drive.
So I had to get a second back up drive to make sure the first one didn't
quit on me.
This took lots of copying files and putting into folders as I wanted the new
back up to be more organized than the original one.
For example, on the first backup I have a games folder where all the game
downloads are kept.

The folder has hundreds of games as I like to keep different versions.
But for the new drive I have a games folder that has only the most recent
version of each game placed in folders named after the game company, such as
PCS and GMA and USA etc.
Then our furnace broke and we were without heat for a week at a time when
the temperature got very low.
We had repair men here four times to replace parts and finally fix the
thing. Meanwhile we had to run out and buy electric heaters to heat the
house. This disrupted game development for at least two weeks as I couldn't
be in the computer room while they were working on the furnace.
Next one of my close relatives was getting married near us so the buying of
cards presents, parties and eventually wedding ceremony took away valuable
game development time.
The same could be said for Christmas with relatives visiting and and the
buying of Christmas cards and gifts and so forth.
The last delay was when both my back up drives went down which was a week
ago and we are still waiting for our computer expert to stop by.
And just this past week David told me that he had a new version of the GMA
engine that would fix some Vista and Windows 7 problems.
It now does the panning of sounds similar to the way it did with Windows XP
which is the way I wanted them to pan, but he is still checking it out so
does not want me to release the new engine until he is done testing.

So as you can tell it has been a very frustrating few months.
Phil

Re: [Audyssey] Happy New Years day sound from PCS

2011-01-02 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Phil,

Smile. I was just teasing you, but thanks for the update anyway. That
sounds like my kind of bad luck. I too have had my share of bad luck
coming up when trying to get Mysteries of the Ancients out the door.
Believe it or not my projections was to release Mysteries of the
Ancients 1.0 this week, but that really got derailed with the
Christmas holidays, two weddings, and several other things that
reduced my free time to practically zilch left over for game
programming. Then, losing two months on trying to figure out why SFML
wasn't working didn't help things either. So I'm at least a month or
two behind schedule now. We are now looking at a March or April
release window.

Cheers!
