[gentoo-dev] Packages up for grabs: games-fps/chocolate-doom, games-fps/freedm, games-fps/freedm-data, games-fps/freedoom, games-fps/freedoom-data, games-fps/gzdoom, games-fps/prboom-plus, games-util/

2024-03-02 Thread William Breathitt Gray

Hello,

I've been maintaining several Doom packages, but recently as I've picked
up more projects outside of Gentoo I have been pushing maintenance of
these Doom packages lower and lower on my To-Do list. I don't want them
to stay neglected, and since I don't see myself giving these packages
the attention they require, I'm offering them up for a new maintainer:

games-fps/chocolate-doom
games-fps/freedm
games-fps/freedm-data
games-fps/freedoom
games-fps/freedoom-data
games-fps/gzdoom
games-fps/prboom-plus
games-util/deutex

The chocolate-doom package has a lot of patches under the files
directory, but all of these should go away when version 3.1.0 is
released by upstream.[^1]

The freedm, freedm-data, freedoom, and freedoom-data packages are
closely related and share the same installation source; they should all
be updated at the same time for each release. There is already a Gentoo
bug open for the version 0.13.0 release.[^2] The maintainer of these
packages should also consider maintaining the deutex package which is
used to build the WAD files.

The gzdoom package already has a Gentoo bug open for the version 4.11.3
release, which will require adding a new dependency on the
media-libs/libwebp package.[^3] Two other Gentoo bugs[^4] are open
regarding musl support (which upstream does not support). Upstream can
sometimes be difficult to work with as they prefer users download the
prebuilt binaries, use the bundled libraries, etc. -- philosophies that
naturally clash with Gentoo ideals. However, they do accept patches so
it's not all bad, and more recently vesion bumps have been pretty smooth
with no need to send patches upstream.

The prboom-plus package technically has a Gentoo bug open for a 2.6.66
version bump[^5], but upstream considers the project superseded by
dsda-doom[^6] project.

Sincerely,

William Breathitt Gray

[gentoo-dev] Packages up for grabs: net-im/gajim and related packages

2024-02-21 Thread Hanno Böck
Hi,

I am currently listed as the maintainer of gajim, but I am not really
using Jabber/XMPP any more. Unless someone else steps up within the
next couple of days, I will change them to "maintainer-needed".

This affects the following packages:
net-im/gajim
dev-python/nbxmpp
dev-python/python-axolotl
dev-python/python-axolotl-curve25519

nbxmpp is a generic python XMPP library, but gajim is its main useer.
The two python-axolotl packages are used by the OMEMO encryption plugin.

I think it is very unlikely that new versions will be released, so the
only maintenance would be fixing compilation issues or
incompatibilities that may appear in the future. There was never a
trigger for me to really investigate that package further, so I can't

The following packages are up for grabs or currently more active co-
maintainers:

* app-office/gtg
and its accompanying support library
* dev-python/liblarch

They currently need py3.11 support and some looking at open bugs about
tests. It's a Getting Things Done app.

* media-video/celluloid
celluloid has had some proxy maintainers interest, but no-one concrete
taking action seems to have surfaced until now.

It needs a version bump and is generally low effort gtk4 GUI for mpv.
There's a PR open for a version bump, but I believe there is now a
newer version out there than that.

In all of these cases I'm happy to stay on as a backup maintainer if
the package adopter wishes, but can't currently actively give them the
attention they deserve.

Hey,

the following packages are up for grabs:
sys-kernel/pf-sources
sys-process/uksmd

Both need a version bump. uksmd has no releases so tag the latest commit
and package a snapshot version. pf-sources's ebuild should be documented
well-enough for anyone to understand how it works.

After dealing with tons of amdgpu-related issues in latest kernels, I've
realized how chill using LTS kernel version is.

I've dropped

 sys-firmware/broadcom-bt-firmware

to maintainer needed, as I do not longer have compatible hardware.

From a security perspective, the firmware in this package could be
considered dubious. Personally, I would recommend users to by newer

The package has one open bug, requesting USE=savedconfig support:

continuing to maintain their packages,

media-gfx/rawtherapee

media-libs/libiptcdata

are now up for grabs. Both are up to date in the tree. They have also

latter appears to fail a documentation-consistency check when emerged

Great! You can bump the version, fix its open bugs via PR.
And if you want to do this in the long term, you add your self to the

I suggest you to join the IRC channel #gentoo-proxy-maint to discuss all

I'm trying to avoid becoming the de facto maintainer of the thirty or
so apache modules that I care nothing about. The eclasses I posted to
the bug are a proof-of-concept for www-apache/mpm_itk, but even that
has a workaround allowing it to use EAPI=7 now. I haven't tested them
with any other packages.

Updating apache-module-r1.eclass to EAPI=8 still requires some work,
and then the whole thing needs to be tested by migrating a
representative chunk of apache-module packages to determine if the
idea is feasible as-is, or if the approach needs to be tweaked. Until
then we'd just be wasting reviewers' time.

I may eventually get bored enough to do all that testing, but right
now I have a lot of things that are actually enjoyable and/or make me
money in front of it on my list.

It would be great if you could dust these off and post them here so we
can get these improvements merged. You mention in the bug that you'd
rather wait for a dedicated maintainer to review them, but I'm (in
name) that maintainer and I think you probably know these eclasses
better than I do. With some joint effort we may get things moving here.

Given that this eclass is only used by the www-servers/apache ebuilds
I'd think it would be obvious who maintains it. I've updated the

GNOME 43 will no longer need these packages. They seem to be in varying
states of decay upstream.

- net-libs/sofia-sip
- net-libs/telepathy-farstream
- net-voip/telepathy-gabble
- net-voip/telepathy-rakia
- net-voip/telepathy-salut

These are maintained upstream, but GNOME 43 doesn't need them.
gstreamer@ was a backup (and is now the primary) maintainer of
media-plugins/gst-plugins-libnice, so it should probably take over
net-libs/libnice as well.

typescript is a build dependency and pop-shell is it's only revdep.

However, there are plenty of typescript users and package is popular.
Yes, it's npm package, but it's unique because it has no external deps.
Easy to maintain too, no bugs open, only dependency is nodejs[npm]
May use eapi8 bump.

As for pop-shell, bump will require packaging 2 extra deps:
pop-launcher
pop-shortcuts
Both are rust, the latter uses justfile instead of makefile.
It also uses rustls with ring crate, which is not portable and had no
commits since april 2022.

So my recommendation is to drop pop-shell or move to guru.
And keep typescript in repo, it's popular.

I'm still using this and I don't see any obvious replacements for it,

This is the fwupd stack.

I'm tempted for these but I only have one machine which uses them.

I'll see if anyone else is a better set of hands first.

Sorry, I'd assumed libjcat was here as it's AFAIK only useful really for fwupd,
but it wasn't in the original list.

But may still be relevant if interested in fwupd. Would need to speak to
Marecki if you are interested though.

A second pair of hands on the whole lot (I have always co-maintained
dev-libs/libjcat with poly-c, and had already added myself to
sys-apps/fwupd before the for-grabs call went out due to having observed
my ticket for it having been dropped to m-n; will add myself to the rest
shortly) will definitely be welcome! They have, sadly, been a bit
neglected of late.

for anyone interested in these packages.

In addition some value packages, like media-libs/freetype and

The following packages have been added to ::gentoo with dotnet@
as maintainer while the team still remains empty:

app-shells/pwsh-bin
dev-dotnet/dotnet-sdk-bin
virtual/dotnet-sdk

Since the team is being finally disbanded, they are looking for a new

The two binary packages have various bugs open against them and seem to
be in need of version bumps.
