[gentoo-dev] Package up for grabs: net-misc/connman-gtk
Dear everyone, After over a decade of standing behind Connman, I have in recent months come to the conclusion that there are now better (or at least better-documented) network-management solutions available for all of my use cases. As a result, I no longer use net-misc/connman-gtk . This is essentially a zero-maintenance package - it has seen very, very few bugs since having been added to the tree, it continues to work fine for the time being, and I have just bumped it to EAPI 8. However, it has currently got no upstream (the relevant GitHub repository got archived in 2021) so if/when changes to its dependencies or to the toolchains eventually render it non-functional, the future maintainer will likely be on their own. Were I still there at that point in time I would probably just last-rite it, then again perhaps there is someone here able and willing to give this tool a fighting chance! -- Marecki OpenPGP_signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

[gentoo-dev] Package up for grabs: app-editors/retext (and dev-python/markups)
Hi all, I'm stepping down as the proxied maintainer of the graphical markdown editor app-editors/retext and it's dependency dev-python/markups because I didn't use it in a long period and have not enough time to test it thoroughly. Upstream releases are infrequent and retext has no open bugs and is stable. Future maintainers could e.g. support the python project with bumping markups and its deps and clean up the old retext stable version 7.1.0, keeping 7.2.1 (I was often not fast enough - kudos mgorny for speed-bumping without breackage!). Corresponding PR on github.com: https://github.com/gentoo/gentoo/pull/21701 Kind regards Nils signature.asc Description: PGP signature
[gentoo-dev] Package up for grabs: net-print/cnrdrvcups-lb
Hey, net-print/cnrdrvcups-lb is up for grabs. It's a driver package for Canon's MFC series printers. Gotta say I've been happy how well it has worked, but since all my laser carts are empty and I can't find a retailer nearby who can supply new ones, maybe it's time to look for alternatives. Next one, something that works in Linux without external drivers... It has 2 bugs open, should be easy to fix. I might still do the next version bump for this package, but calling out any takers now. -- juippis OpenPGP_signature Description: OpenPGP digital signature
Re: [gentoo-dev] Package up for grabs: sys-boot/woeusb
This project is awesome. I'm wondering if it's better to follow the woeusb (without any gui as it was dropped) or move to the woeusb-ng python version (personally i would prefer this way) Il Gio 8 Lug 2021, 20:18 Matt Turner ha scritto: > On Thu, Jul 8, 2021 at 5:51 AM Pacho Ramos wrote: > > > > No longer interested on it, pending a major version bump after upstream > > splitting: > > https://github.com/slacka/WoeUSB/issues/209 > > > > Thanks a lot for taking it > > Dang! I'm gonna take it up as personally interested of it as sometimes I had to use windows (mostly because family PCs with weirdos stop working) Il giorno gio 8 lug 2021 alle ore 14:51 Pacho Ramos ha scritto: > No longer interested on it, pending a major version bump after upstream > splitting: > https://github.com/slacka/WoeUSB/issues/209 > > Thanks a lot for taking it >

I use it on my dev box to boot to ZFS root. Never took a liking to GRUB. Simpler is better, and I honestly wouldn't mind if someone could port FreeBSD's bootloader to Linux... I hope a dev does that. I've always used Lilo & see no reason to change. It's easy to use, at least for an ordinary desktop system, & Grub seems to cause other people problems regularly. Re: [gentoo-dev] Package up for grabs: app-arch/snappy
Strangely enough, upstream actually released new 1.1.9 a few hours ago. I don't see any issues with git submodules (there only gtest and benchmark libraries which can be disabled via cmake). Anyway, I can take maintainership over it. ср, 5 мая 2021 г. в 12:54, Michał Górny : > Hi, > > The following package needs a new maintainer: > > app-arch/snappy > > Technically, it's not a high traffic package. Hi, The following package needs a new maintainer: app-arch/snappy Technically, it's not a high traffic package. It's pending version bump but upstream did not bother providing a working release archive, and GitHub archives do not work because they are missing git submodules. That said, it's a typical Google open source package -- bad quality, doesn't care the slightest bit about accepting patches or getting bug reports, or even making working releases. -- Best regards, Michał Górny
