Hi,
I found a old SCSI HP C1537 (12/24) tapedrive, and i would like to use it
in my Home server for creating backups.
I would use tar for backing up because i can read tar on almost all OS'ses.
Install gentoo on one PC and test.
For each next PC:
-Boot both master PC and other PC from Gentoo Live CD
-Create partitions as described in the manual on the slave PC, same
partitions as on the master
-Mount partitions on both PC's as in the manual, do not mount /proc yet
-give a root password
Hi all,
I want to do a terminal server with about 40 thin clients using
Gentoo. All thin clients will be able to boot PXE, boot image(s) on
one server. Clients will only connect to the server using XDM, desktop
will be KDE.
Questions:
-Does anyone have experience?
-Which is best, PXES, LTSP or
not to be more than 200% here.
I can assure that adaptec PATA raid are worst, and never tryed promise
have a good choice

Hi,
I am trying to get kde-libs compiled, but no luck. Compile dies every time complaining it can't find /var/tmp/portage/qt3.3.0/libqt-mt.la.
Anyone a clue?

This makes me want to upgrade to 2.6.x on my production server right now. I've already
been running the dev kernels since around 2.5.67 without any problems.

When I open a Gnome session with the same user, everything is as I had
set in Control Center.
Tried doing the same with a freshly created user, same problem, so it is
not user related.
I have several Gentoo boxes, on some of them I have this problem, on
others not.
Any ideas?

Trying to emerge zapping, which needs rte, and rte simply refuses to

Tried tis on several Gentoo boxes, same everywhere.

Hi all,
Just compiled the new Gnome desktop, looks great, but now I have
problems accessing my LDAP directory. Already re-compiled Evolution, but
still this:
First query works, on second query, Evolution crashes. (need to do

Is this an Evolution issue or a Gentoo

Does anyone know where to set the default umask for files created in

This will be quite usefull for me, as I have about 20 Linux pc's to
manage. They are all PIII based, but all with different hardware.
Kernel upgrades will be much easier now!
