Apparently a missing quote in /etc/portage/make.conf but I can't find

Doing good until lvm package emerged. I don't use lvm so wonder if nolvm

In gentoo in order to make a uefi system is it necessary to use douefi as
a boot parameter when starting the install? If so, it wasn't in the
handbook I read. If not, my guess would be gentoo discovers this
information for itself.

Before I do this, would it be useful to do

I ran emerge-webrsync and agreed to merge some software titles from
gentoo. The first one was pcre and so far as I can tell, all went fine
until the makefile tested gcc and found gcc doesn't work. At that point
the emerge errored out.
Now, it's possible everyone is using the systemd profile but I
vinux is abandonware though for an installer environment still may work.
I've never used one installer system to install another system myself
though so if that's what we try it will be a new experience for me.

I've never used a gentoo-live-cd and the reason I use the gentoo-minimal
-cd is it's possible to bring speakup up on boot and for those few of us
who can't see the screen and haven't got sighted help nearby, that makes
all manner of independent computer operations possible.

I did emerge sys-libs/timezone-data which downloaded that package and
dependencies and then errored out badly when trying to build the packages.
