Does anybody know how to compile Xgl on Gentoo box ?

 Xgl has been discontinued:

Can't you do the same with AIGLX in Xorg?

So it seems to be funny now ...
there is too many obsolete projects Xnest, Xephyt, Xgl, Xegl
(probably never finished).
From experience I can say, if there is too many solutions for the same
purpose, no one is perfect :-(.

Thanks for suggestion, I'll try it.

[gentoo-user] Howto compile Xgl on Gentoo (to have dual seat box)

2008-11-12 Thread noro kamen
Hi,

I have dual head nvidia card and like to make dual seat gentoo box.
(i.e. two people can work simultaneously, using their own monitor+mouse+kbd)

I met these problems:
1. one X window server can work only with one mouse, kbd and VGA card
2. nvidia driver doesn't allow to run two X servers on single dual head card

I configured Xorg.conf for two semi independent screens (signed as
:0.0 and :0.1),
but didn't succeed to attach extra kbd/mouse to them.
(I can run e.g. mplayer on one screen in fullscreen mode and work on
the other,
but still using one mouse+kbd.)

I got inspired by this link:
 http://research.edm.uhasselt.be/~jori/page/index.php?n=Misc.DualSeatX

So I have to compile Xgl, run it on both screens and then attach extra
mouse + kbd to them via XevdevServer.

Does anybody know how to compile Xgl on Gentoo box ?

TIA.

I found these outdated links, but nothing useful:

Re: [gentoo-user] Reboots ok...but no Shutdown

2006-12-21 Thread noro kamen

When I log out of Gentoo and select reboot, the computer reboots fine, but
when I select shutdown, the computer hangs at: Remounting remaning
filesystems readonly, and no other messages. It just sits forever.
I re-emerged baselayout and checked my shutdown.sh, it all looks ok,
but...no go.
Any ideas?

Douglas

Did u check other virtual screens ? (The messages u are looking for
can be on one of them.)
If the machine do not switch off, probe to play with ACPI APM in
kernel setup.

shouldn't be a problem if all I want is the caller ID, should it?

which type of line do u have ?
e.g. classic analog, ISDN, ADSL, VDSL ...

Classic I guess. My regular caller ID box conked out a couple of months
ago, and as we cannot easily afford a new one, I was hoping I could use
the computer for that...

OK, as Iain answered, if your modem support it, u can read CID from it.
Just connect to modem from minicom and RTFM modem's manual.
The easyiest solution is to buy a specialized box (I bough it for ~10 EUR).

Asterisk can log CID 4u, and/or forward incoming calls to a VoIP phone,
but u'll need a special * compatible card, e.g. Digium X100P (obsolete/
sometimes still available on eBay) or another modem card based on MD3200
Cirrus Logic/Ambient chipset, intel 537PG or 537PU chipsets, but keep
away from 537EP, which is unsupported.

Hi everybody !

I'd like to make internet connection via Telekom Austria / AON.

Windoze inet connectivity works (using green CD from AON ).

Can u give me an advice, what should I do, to make it work under Gentoo ?

I have to answer it myself, because it seems there are no austrian
guys on this list :-(.
(Welche Liste bevorzugen sie ?)
After I realized, I have to setup PPTP tunnel, it was not so difficult ...
this is what I did:
emerge pptpclient
modify files in /etc/ppp directory (for ppp daemon)
write startup rc-script and add it to default run level

Re: [gentoo-user] Booting Gentoo 2006.1 on an iMac

2006-12-06 Thread noro kamen

2006/9/10, Charles Trois [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

Hello,

I am having trouble while installing 2006.1 on my iMac. I have made
other installations before, but never had this problem.
I am using the Universal ppc disk, and I have followed strictly all the
steps in the 2006.1 handbook. I have not made any modules, everything is
in the kernel.

What happens is that, on the final reboot, I see 10 or 15 lines of text
(is that the Open Firmware part?) that disappear immediately. Then there
is nothing, and I have to cut the power to go on.

I have also made a more complete version of yaboot.conf with macos,
macosx, etc. Then the bootloader shows these options (ignores
enablecdboot and enableofboot, though). Typing x for macosx
starts it normally, but l for linux fails as described above.

This is done without an Internet connexion. I haven't got one yet
because my new modem is a Speedtouch 510v5 Ethernet type, which works
very well with osx, but is notoriously troublesome with Linux (but this
is another affair).

I should be grateful for any hints.

Charles
