I have also when doing that emerged told it to do kde and gnome so both of them will be at the latest versions in the tree that are ~amd64. Hello Daniel, He mentioned an error that happens when he click the Gnome (or KDE, can't remember) icon at the desktop. Not something he typed... Thanks for pointing that out! Try simply NOT USING the icon, and using an application direcly. OK, I have tryed this with mplayer, xine, cd player With cd player and mplayer I am unable to get the cd to play but it does show me the metadata for the cd (audio) With xine I can play the cd (audio) Emerge mplayer and: I have emerged mplayer mplayer dvd:// what is this and where do I do this? for example. Try XMMS to play audio CDs. Have you tried just playing them with the app? See above for this response Or are you still wanting them to be played automagically? Rigtht now I don't care if there play auto or not but at a time I would like this. I guess your problem is configuration of the WM and maybe some dependency or whatever linked to the way the WM deals with the icons on the desktop. I am using Gnome that portage has of latest one I think, and x11 how do I do this and so on I am a very new users that had done this setup now over 5 times as I run in to one issue or entother? You DO NOT MOUNT audio CDs, that would probably return an error and/or block the device for direct reading (in the case of a DVD). [gentoo-user] Totem Movie Player Issue (DVD - Audio)!
Hello All, When I try playing a DVD cd in totem I get: a very flake totem, some times it playes and other times it does not, one time I click on a menu in a dvd and it closed another time I got a messeage of: Internal GStreamer error: pad problem. File a bug. Now if I click on the menu Movie then click on play ... a number of times after each clicking of the above error it then will play, this time it tole about 5 times. Hello Daniel, It now plays in all three players, the mplayer its self play very slow and gives issues so I am geting rid of it as it also IS not accessibile and if there is any one out there that is using it with a screenreader please come forth. So far xine plays both audio and dvds fine it appears. I can not get the totem to play audio cds or play with out being flaky please see totem posting. By the way I emerged latest versions of gst-plugins-base and that is what seems to get them to work to the degree it is. Now how do I get xine to play the stuff automatic I guess I will push my luck LOL? Thanks for your help! [gentoo-user] PLEASE HELP!!! Emerge Isssue Now!
Hello there all, I am now having a emerge issue, I am trying for the first TIME to update all of what I have done to the latest and best updates :-) any how I did: First I did the below in a xterm in gnome this when good: emerge sync Then I did the following command and it did about 10 emerges then it stoped and said it could not resovle and it tryed it on all of the selected mirrors, so I rebooted after trying it again with the same issue but this time I have 10 less to download: emerge --update --newuse --deep world Ok now I am not able to get a xterm up in gnome and when I try the above to things in a vt the first one works and then I do the next and get the same issue and I even just tryed to emerge just one thing and got the same issue what is this and why? I would send you it but I am in gnome and can not get xterm open to get the errors right Please respone ASAP as I would like to try and continul with this stuff as I am having noting but bad luck with it. Hello All, I now have just tryed emerge mozilla-firefox and get the same errors as I did in the other mail I sent, I also tryed mirrorselect and it said some thing about my internet connects but I am ON the internet right now under linux (Gentoo-Gnome) so I don't understand that. Try to ping google or something and see if that works. Maybe something got updated on the networking and you need to change a config file or do a etc-update. Hello All, Ok to begining with I have NO other issues any more!!! Ok my motherboard is a K8V Deluxe with the latest bios being 1.0.12 it IS the last bios being made by ASUS as my motherboard is discontinualed!! OK here is my prob: I am emergeing say X11, or ALSA or etc and when this is happening my compiler seems to stop and I could of been away from the system for about 20 minnuts and come back to a standing screen and if I hit any key then it continualed to compile more and then it stops again and again with a time frame of about 10 - 15 sec and I have to hit a key again every time or it does NOT go on!!! in my bios I have DISABLED the PRM (which is the power manger) IF you have any questions needing to be answered please ask I need to get this part fixed as its going nuts. sorry if you are geting this twice as I have also posted to the amd64 list Hello All, I figure I will also give this information to this list as I was asked some questions from the amd list. Frist part is this is not a live cd, it is booting off of the hard drive. Next thing is all of the stuff here loaded right when usings a livecd, I got the list by doing a lsmod and then writeing them into the file that coldplug uses to automatic load them as this is the stuff that the live cd loaded / detected. The hard drives that are being used is SATA (in the bios I have it as IDE as I don't care to use raid or arrays, the motherboard is a Asus K8V Delux SE (its the one with talking boot up and also the one that has a wireless card slot init) If there is any more questions I could answer to help with figureing out these issue please ask! Hello Jarry, I am able to get into the system with the current setup that is the strange thing, I am NOT using the liveCD any more, I am booting using GRUB, it loads the kernel and then it prompts me for a root block device and then I enter /dev/sda6 --- this is my sata drive and when I do this it mounts the root (sda6 is my root partition) my boot is /dev/sda1 Does this change any thing seeing I am able to do the above? if so what should I do? Later I found out that southbridge (VT8251) was not supported... On your mobo there is VIA VT8237 southbridge, check if this is supported by kernel (kernel-sources). If not, you have to patch kernel first to get your sata-drive recognised... Anyway, for installation I had to use p-ata disk (this was detected by livecd-kernel), install linux on it, patch kernel, then sata-disk was recognised, and finally install on sata disk...
