No there is nothing in the log. Actually, the last entries are from the upgrade
2.9.0=>2.9.1, i.e. from the installation of 2.9.1 (always overwrites the entire
geoserver directory).

no, this is new to me, we actually have one demo server using a 2.9.x
series deploying
CSW and starting without problems here:
http://demo.geo-solutions.it/geoserver/web/
The server deploys once a day the current nightly build, and did not
exhibit any startup problem around the
time 2.
