One of the issues brought up in today's IRC meeting was that we are over
our quota of space on the sourceforget shell server. We are using 600 MB

You are right they look similar! :-)
GeoAPI is interfaces only. It defines an open standard for behaviour but
does not actually provide implementations of that behviour.
GeoTools tries to implement the GeoAPI standard.
