[Gimp-developer] Intro and a CVS question

2006-11-23 Thread Chris Mohler

Hi - My name is Chris Mohler. I'm not a hard-core programmer, but have some
experience with C and Python. I've recently set about to assembling a
prepress environment with OSS tools. Of course GIMP is a cornerstone of the
project, so I'd like to become more involved with GIMP development.

What release should I be checking out of CVS? Or stated another way - on
various bug entries, I see please create a patch against current CVS. Is
current CVS gimp-2-2?

Sorry if this is a dumb question!

If no specific branch is mentioned, current CVS usually means the HEAD branch.
This is what you get if you just do a cvs checkout without specifying a revision
or branch (i.e., no option like -r gimp-N-N).

Just check out the HEAD branch. That is, do not specify any particular
branch. That will get you the development branch which is where gimp 2.3
releases are made from occasionally. We also maintain a stable branch,
labelled gimp-2-2. That's where stable gimp 2.2 releases are being made
from. If you want to get a patch into GIMP, it will almost always first
have to go into the HEAD branch.

[Gimp-developer] Survey of open-source platforms for digital image processing

2006-11-23 Thread Nelson Gomes

Dear Sirs,

I am a computer science student at the Faculty of Sciences, University of
Porto, Portugal, and I am writing an essay on the topic of Digital Image
Processing. More specifically, I'm conducting an enquiry on open-source
software for digital image processing purposes. My idea is to collect,
analyse and test the most popular applications, including their
functionalities, user-friendliness, plug-in development facilities, etc. I
have short-listed your software for my survey and would like to know your
availability to contribute to this project. More specifically, I would like
to know your opinion about your software (ease of use, functionalities,
flexibility, etc) and I was wondering if I could send you a small
questionaire that will not take more than 15 minutes to answer.
I will, of course, send you the final copy of my survey (including tests and
conclusions), if you are kind enough to contribute in this project.

Thank you for your attention.
Please contact me or my supervisor (Dr. Miguel Coimbra - [EMAIL PROTECTED] -
www.ieeta.pt/sias/member/mcoimbra.php), if you need any information on this.

Best regards,
Nelson Gomes

Thanks, very good tutorial.

Well a picture speaks a thousand words , how many for a flash?

Nice clear demo of how to use this powerful tool. Nice work.
