We certainly don't want to do this for any new string that is added. If
you like you can add a note to README.i18n though and suggest that
strings which are likely going to be troublesome should have translator
context added.

I wanted to add this in the original sample points implementation,
but never managed to do it and forgot it in the meantime.

Can you file that as enhancement in bugzilla please?

Yes, this is another viable possibility. Thanks for your suggestion.

[Gimp-developer] Sample Points wish

2010-07-08 Thread Lukáš Jirkovský
Hello everyone,
I'm not sure whether this is a right place to post my wish but I can't
find any better.

It would be really great if the Sample Points dialog had "Sample
average" option as the Color Picker Tool has, because it would
certainly improve color correction experience. Without sample average
it's not exactly more difficult to do color corrections in Gimp, but
it's much more error prone because you can accidentally select the
pixel with color lot of color noise.

I think my wish is easy to implement because the functionality already
exists in Gimp's Color Picker tool.

Also I think it would be nice if the Sample Points dialog could show
the before/after pixel values (divided eg. by slash or by enclosing
one of the values in braces) but it's not something I give a high
priority at all.

have a nice day,
Lukas

[Gimp-developer] Creating unique file names with Script-Fu

2010-07-08 Thread Kevin
Would it not be possible to create a reasonably unique name using the tiny-fu,
ftx extension, (time) function? That should give you a name unique to the
current time, at least if you don't try and use it more than once in the
current second.

You'd probably still need to do some collision avoidance just to be safe.

Many thanks one example is worth a thousand words...I see that the
context strings of gettext is exactly what I was looking for.

One typical example is here:

from po-plugins/it.po

#. if and how to center the image on the page
#: ../plug-ins/common/align-layers.c:423 ../plug-ins/common/align-layers.c:454
#: ../plug-ins/common/cml-explorer.c:165 ../plug-ins/common/file-ps.c:3242
#: ../plug-ins/common/file-ps.c:3254 ../plug-ins/common/file-psp.c:646
#: ../plug-ins/file-fits/fits.c:1044
#: ../plug-ins/fractal-explorer/fractal-explorer-dialogs.c:998
#: ../plug-ins/fractal-explorer/fractal-explorer-dialogs.c:1039
#: ../plug-ins/fractal-explorer/fractal-explorer-dialogs.c:1080
#: ../plug-ins/lighting/lighting-ui.c:415
#: ../plug-ins/print/print-page-layout.c:461
msgid "None"
msgstr "No"

w too many contexts for that string!

Example:

align-layers.c = (IT) allineamento livelli -> None = No or Nessuno (ok!)
file.psp.c = (IT) compressione dati -> No or Nessuna (ok!)
fractal-explorer-dialogs.c = (IT) composizione -> Nessuna or No (ok!)

lighting-ui.c = (IT) tipo luce -> Nessuna (no! ---> I or someonelse will add
some context strings)

Now I know how to do it.

Thant you very much to pointing me to the right direction...
