Handle transform being my all-time favourite improvement. :)

Next question: Want a video of these items in action? We get 100 seconds,
which is plenty of time to show off these items.

Changes in 2015:

http://www.gimp.org/news/2015/12/31/2015-report/, minus the things
between January 1, 2015, and the beginning of LGM 2015:

- PSD support improvements
- MyPaint brush support
- resurrection of intelligent scissors tool
- new experimental handle transform tool
- the merging of experimental n-point deformation tool
- new 'File -> Copy Image Location' and "Show in File Manager' commands
- PFM file format support

What's new in the first 2.9.x release:

http://www.gimp.org/news/2015/11/27/gimp-2-9-2-released/

What's new since 2.9.2:

- a variety of UI themes: both dark, grey, and light
- icon themes, including a symbolic theme (dark and light versions)
- painting symmetry for all painting tools
- 'Select -> Flood' command to remove small unselected areas inside a
larger selection
- Fuzzy Select and Bucket Fill tools now have Diagonal Neighbors
option (tools then consider diagonally neighboring pixels as connected
when calculating the area to select or fill)
- MyPaint brush tool now fast enough and hence enabled by default,
supports the tagging of brushes (and reads tags from MyPaint brushes)
- color management for greyscale images
- various improvements in the handling of GEGL-based filters (e.g.

I think it's probably worth including anything eye-catching that will get
people excited about downloading the latest release of GIMP. The cutoff is
whatever you want to feature, and whichever download off the website you
would like to point people at to try the latest toys in GIMP.

If you want to show something that was in the last LGM slides, that's fine
too. We can mix it in.
I'll need a list this weekend if you want a video though, to ensure I have
enough time to do it up properly.
It's a substantial amount of work. :)

Thanks.

Yes.
Actually one could talk about stuff since the last stable release -
that is too much -
but not everyone will have in mind the changes already done in GIMP
since 2.8 was out.
So maybe, one slide to talk about the greatest changes (color depth,
GEGL plug-ins, etc... ) and the others
to emphasize changes since the last LGM.

I'm doing the video for the Inkscape project. I can toss one together for
GIMP as well (mentioned in previous emails)
Is there still interest in this, or would someone rather do slides?

Note that a video creates much more of an impact and allows us to show off
GIMP's new eyecandy.

If interested please provide a complete list of features to highlight.

Also, thanks to the Libre graphics folks for extending it to more than 20
seconds. lol

Cheers. :)

[Gimp-developer] State of Libre Graphics Union 2016 - call for Slides

2016-03-20 Thread Joao S. O. Bueno
Dear Folks at GIMP -

The first presentation event in this years LGM program is ‘state of
Libre Graphics’. A common update for many of the projects across our
Libre Graphics community. This frees up room in the schedule for deeper
topics or fresh projects; while still giving us a chance to know what
has been going on in various ongoing libre graphics related efforts; not
only software projects, but also our various curation, publication and
umbrella projects.

More information on this presentation here - inclding the slides or video name
conventions and formating -

http://libregraphicsmeeting.org/2016/state-of-libre-graphics-union-2016/

The slides should be sent to me at this e-mail (gwid...@gmail.com ) up
to Friday the 8th of April -
