[Gimp-developer] image dimension(s) instead of pixel dimensions (Image Properties)

2010-02-04 Thread Cristian Secară
In the dialog windows that opens on Image - Image Properties the first
item is Pixel dimensions:.

In my opinion this is incorrect (it sounds like it were about the
dimensions of a physical pixel). I think it should be Image
dimensions, or Image size, or something like that.

Hm ?

... or perhaps inspired by the French translation, which is something
like Dimension in pixels.

I think that Pixel dimensions is fine as it is. It is compact, and it
is very clear in the context in which it appears, that is, followed by
(yyy) x (zzz) pixels. I don't think anybody familiar with image
editing in any sense will think that it's referring to the shape of a
single pixel.

Any options that don't mention Pixel in the name will likely leave
someone wondering how they can see other kinds of sizes there.

Dimension in pixels is nice, but is longer with little real benefit.

weary laughter in the background.

Let's use plain English,
Size in pixels: 10864 pixels wide, 50921 pixels wide.

Anything that can be done to make it easier for people to
learn that pixels do not have a fixed size when you print
them will be a big win, especially for people who learned
an incorrect or confused view because of using PhotoShop...

'pixel dimensions' is more confusing than it needs to be, so I changed
to 'size in pixels':

commit 43c0cfedbd50ffa425982e6601b3a0ebdf33b150
Author: Martin Nordholts mart...@src.gnome.org
Date: Thu Feb 4 21:24:53 2010 +0100

app: Pixel dimensions - Size in pixels in Image Properties dialog

'Pixel dimensions' can be misinterpreted with the size of a pixel, so
use 'size in pixels' instead. This is consistent with e.g. the Scale
Image dialog which talks about 'image size'.
