It has been almost ten years since I worked with GEOTIFF files, but IIRC they are just TIFF files with a couple extra tags telling you where the image is geospatially located. That should mean that GIMP can open a GEOTIFF fine, but there are no guarantees that it can keep the tags if you then save it. Note, I haven't checked this in a long long time, but it did work then. [...] Many users and developers were hoping for GIMP 2.4 to be released around the end of summer last year. Alas, that didn't happen because it took a long time to fix some nasty bugs, then it was decided to include some new features because the release was not ready anyway, then more bugs popped in, then it also took a while to fix them, then even more features were added, even more bugs were discovered and fixed, and so on... It is not surprising that the authors of some books were hoping for 2.4 to be released earlier. Maybe they were a bit too optimistic, but I wouldn't blame them for that. I find it to be a very useful book IMHO. I'm not sure how relevant it will continue to be though, based on the fact that the author really seems to have jumped the gun in regards to the GIMP 2.4 release. When you think about it, that book has been out for several months now, and was obviously being written for several months prior to the release (as is the nature of any book). The snapshot she was using could end up being far different from what 2.4 actually turns out to be. I still find it to be a good book with helpful tips though. --Mike H ___ Gimp-user mailing list Gimp-user@lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU https://lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user
