Hmm... There is no button to do this? Only ways using features that are
not made exactly for it? Developers read this mail list? Can I suggest
this? A simple toogle box that change mix opacity to exact opacity. Well,
in that case. I will use masks, hope any developer read this.

Since the shadow layer is created above the text layer, I am guessing
you performed an "Alpha to Selection" at some point in your process.
The shadow will be based on the selection and not the text itself.

If necessary, the image will be enlarged to account for the shadow if
the "Allow resizing" box is checked. This will shift the layers on the
image, but they should maintain their positions relative to each other.

It would probably be helpful if you could provide a more precise
description of your actions.

Let's try a step by step solution so that your chances of mistake are
diminshed:

1) open layers dialog (ctrl + l)
2) right click on layer, select "Add layer mask"
3) on the dialog that apears, choose "White (full opacity)
4) Pick the pencil, black color, choose 50% opacity an start painting
  - you will be cretaing gray colr on the mask, which means your
image, at the corresponding pixels, will be translucent. That
will be depicted by a gaye checkered pattern you will be able
to notice in the places you are painting
5) Before saving, click on the layer thumbnail on tehlayers dialog, so
that it becomes the active drawable. Otherwhise, you will be saving
only the mask itself
6) Be sure to save he file ina file format which accepts
translucency - such as .png (don't try .jpg or .gif)

Happy gimping!

[Gimp-user] how to move the line constraints

2008-05-18 Thread Helen
After I pull the line guides down, how do I put them back again.
Or move them.
The move tool moves the layer instead of the guides.

Make sure you click right on the guides when you try to drag them. The
guide should change color (to a reddish tint) when your mouse is over
them and you can click to drag it.

To work with guides in a number of ways, try the menu Image->Guides.
This has a number of different things you can do with them, like remove
them all.

If you drag a guide back into the rulers the guide is removed from the
image window.

[Gimp-user] lines guides

2008-05-18 Thread Helen
I pull the line guides into the picture to constrain a circle,
and then how do I put the line guides back where they
were? To get them out of the picture.

If I try to move them with the move tool, it moves the
entire layer and not the guides.

Thank you all,
Helen

Let make things more simple to understand.

If I draw a %50 opacity white pixel above one black pixel with the pencil
it becomes silver. But I want the pixel WHITE AND WITH %50 OF OPACITY. I
simply want to change the alpha when I draw and not how much the color
change.

I think you are probably doing something wron.

Open the layers dialogue so you see what is going on.

Make a new transparent layer

Make your text

Move it around

Merge down to the new transparent layer

Drop shadow it

[Gimp-user] Problem with shadows

2008-05-18 Thread John Coppens
Hello people,

I do the following:

1) A solid background,
2) A text of 5 lines, which is generated on a new layer
3) I move the text around a bit to align it, using the move tool,

With the text layer selected, I use tha drop-shadow, hoping to create a
shadow of the text, but instead, the shadow layer appears _before_ the
selected text layer, and the background layer gets displaced to the right
and below.

No shadow is visible. If I do the drop shados before 3), then the shadow
is rendered correctly.

Am I doing something wrong here? I installed 2.4.5 to be sure the problem
wasn't in 2.4.4 only.
