The problem comes indeed from a conflict with KDE.
By default, the ALT key + mouse clicks has some special behaviours that can be
disabled via
the KDE control center / customization / mouse behaviour. There is a group of options
for
the ALT key.

SGI systems?
Or do I have to download the source and build it from scratch (along
with glib and gtk)? I always find that a bit of a headache - to the
extent that I would probably end up sticking with my current 1.0.4
What is being done to stop the spam in the Gimp mailing lists? I recive
about 3 to 4 new ones a day. Procmail strips them out so I can LART them
but something needs to be done.

Anyone having great success printing high quality images from GIMP? What printers have you found to be useful? I am just getting a start and want to determine whether GIMP/Linux can be used to produce photo quality images without undo hassle.
