Not sure what you mean. What is supposed to happen in your opinion?
Collapsing/expanding layer groups is just about not showing the
sublayers in the list, but it is not supposed to change the image. Or
maybe do you mean hiding/showing (clicking the eye) when you say
collapsing/expanding?

 When it happens, it affects
all open tabs and not just the image I'm working on.

I am really not sure what you mean here either. I tried to play with
several images, each with layer groups, but nothing weird happen. Do
you mean like if you collapse a group in an image, layer groups in
other opened image collapse too?

Everything else seems to work fine, but if I do something like
duplicate a layer group, it will create the new group collapsed and
then I can't access it which can be a problem. Restarting gimp always
fixes the problem. Before I tried sending a bug report, I wondered if
this happens to anyone else, or if I'm missing something.

Well when duplicating a layer group, the new group indeed starts
collapsed. But I had no problem to expand it though. I could not
reproduce this bug. Which version of GIMP did you try this with? I
personally tried with the dev version, but there may be a problem with
a released version. Did you try with GIMP 2.8.6?

[Gimp-user] Gimp 2.8 Control Panels

2013-08-22 Thread Mike Armistead
I have downloaded several iterations of Gimp 2.8, now up to 2.8.6, and all I
get is a blank screen with the menu bar at the top (and the Gimp logo in the
background). I don't see any of the toolbars or control panels that all
tutorials show as being part of Gimp 2.8. The only toolbar I can pull up is
the tall narrow one under tools that just has the basic functions of older
versions of Gimp. Am I doing something wrong or is there some kind of block
on my computer? I'm using Windows 7 64-bit OS. I also have Adaptable Gimp
2.6.10 on my computer - could that be interfering with anything? Thanks for
your help. This is my first post on the list.

Anything is possible, expecially in windows environment. What exactly is
Adaptable Gimp as that name is foriegn, gimp is gimp.

First thing I would try is *completely* removing Adaptable Gimp,
including its personal configuration files. Remove *all* of gimp also.

Then reinstall gimp and see what you get.

gud luk,

[Gimp-user] A few questions regarding GIMP

2013-08-22 Thread christopher.draper93
Alright I have a few questions about GIMP. The first two I haven't gotten
helpful answers for.
1) How do you access the Font Config thing?
2) Where can I get fonts to add to GIMP?
3) Is there somewhere I can leave suggestions for GIMP? I think they should
add a symmetrical function but don't know where to suggest it.

 gud luk,

Before that, try hitting Tab (hides/shows all
active docks) or adding in the control panels from windows-dockable
dialogs (or similar, don't have a gimp around here)

[Gimp-user] Fwd: Gimp 2.8 Control Panels

2013-08-22 Thread Pat David
Just realized I had posted back off-list. Sorry.

You may be having one of these issues:

1. Are you in single-window mode? You can check by going to the menu bar:
Windows - Single Window Mode.

a) if you are, you can open any of the dockable dialogs by going to the
menu bar again: Windows - Dockable Dialogs. Then just choose the ones you
want to see. (you can do this anyway, but see below).

b) if you are not, are the dialogs off-screen somewhere? Try going into
Single Window mode, and see if your dialogs appear on the sides of your
GIMP window.

What do you mean access fontconfig exactly?

 2) Where can I get fonts to add to GIMP?

Most likely if you install them using your system administration tool
to install font, they will be placed in standard place, and GIMP
should be able to find them.

If you have for instance downloaded fonts from the web, you can add
them for instance in ~/.gimp-2.8/fonts/ for GIMP 2.8 (under your home
directory, depending on the operating system, it has obviously
different places).

Finally if for some reason, you don't want to place the font file
there, and GIMP can't find them itself, in GIMP, go in Edit
Preferences Folders Fonts. There click on the + to add a folder
where new fonts can be loaded. On the next startup, all fonts in added
folders will be available in GIMP.

 3) Is there somewhere I can leave suggestions for GIMP? I think they should

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/browse.cgi?product=GIMP
On this address, you can create bug report or feature requests for
GIMP, or search if your desired requests has not already been written
by someone.

add a symmetrical function but don't know where to suggest it.

What do you call a symmetrical function? Is it like a mirror mode
where you would paint and your drawing would be mirrored in real time?
If so, there is already a request for it:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=648776
And actually I am planning to implement this, most likely soon.
Or were you asking about another feature?

Hi,

yes, to some extent. You can try:
- Filters/Map/Bump map... to get relief effects,
- Filters/Render/Sphere Designer... to create spheres and
- Filters/Map/Map object... to map an image to a sphere,
box, plane or cylinder.

This is rudimentary 3D support. To create real 3D art
I suggest to use a 3D modeller like [Blender].

Kind regards,

Sven
