[Gimp-user] transition photoshop to gimp

At the next LibreGraphicsMeeting in Leipzig there will be an [agenda item] on how a non-destructive workflow will look in GIMP. I'm not sure whether GIMP's solution will be adjustment layers but I am curious. For now you can use layers and layer masks to work non-destructively. What exactly do you mean with non-permanent filters in Photoshop? Do you mean the Smart filters? Yeah the term they use for non permanent and adjustable filters issmart filters.. you are right. I wasn´t sure about the exact word and don´t have Photoshop installed on this box ;) It is important and we're working on it. Look out for GEGL. See also our [roadmap] and the [GEGL porting matrix]. In GIMP you can group layers with Layer groups. Unfortunately they don't have masks, but this is a work in progress (see the first item on the roadmap). [Gimp-user] transition photoshop to gimp
Hi, The question isn't really if the workflow is nondestructive, but rather, to what extent. In GIMP you can paint nondestructively by using a new transparent layer. In photoshop you can do that and on top of that use layer effects/filters nondestructively. That is, afaik, not currently possible in GIMP. However, the big project the developers are working on right now is transitioning GIMP to a new core, called GEGL. With that, it should be possible to retroactively change pretty much anything you have done to the image, even far more than is possible with photoshop right now. But, as I said, it is a big project and we don't now when it will be done/released. [Gimp-user] GIMP -2.8.10 Brushes
Ofnuts wrote 16 Mar: Technically, the script creates an entry in the menu of the Brushes dialog, but it's not really designed to be used from a menu. What you do is: 1) check that the script is installed: HelpPlugin browser and search native, this should show Brush size to native 2) EditKeyboard shortcuts, search native and assign a keyboard shortcut. Then when you want the current brush at its native size, just hit the key you defined. Thanks Ofnuts, I did what your instructions expressed and these worked very well with the current native sizes of brushes. But my problem is how to alter the 'native' sizes to what I wish for each brush. Idea on that would be most helpful. [Gimp-user] 3 programs have error in 2.8.10
Hello, I have installed Gimp 2.8.10 in my computer with Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bits. When I start Gimp the programs web-page.exe, help-browser.exe and file-pdf-load.exe give the error the procedure entry point __gxx-personality_seh0 could not be located in dynamic link library c:\Program files\Gimp 2\bin\icui18n51.dll icui18n51.dll is a dll from International Components for Unicode and I think it was compiled with a different version of the mingw C++ compiler that the one I have in my computer. Actually I have MINGW for 32 bits and 64 bits installed in my computer but I do not know in which library the dll is looking for the entry point. Does anyone know which library and for which version (gcc is now 4.8.1) is icui18n51.dll using?, Is this library in the Gimp files?, perhaps due to my path Gimp starts looking for in other place. Did you ever copy files around manually, for example when installing additional plug-ins? Did you ever install any third-party plug-ins? -- Regards, Michael GPG: 96A8 B38A 728A 577D 724D 60E5 F855 53EC B36D 4CDD ___ gimp-user-list mailing list List address:gimp-user-list@gnome.org List membership: https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user-list List archives: https://mail.gnome.org/archives/gimp-user-list
Re: [Gimp-user] 3 programs have error in 2.8.10
I was having the exact same thing happen. Even after trying a uninstall/reinstall. What solved it was after an uninstall, go to look in the programs folder and manually remove the remaining gimp directory and files. I also renamed the .gimp folder in the user profile directory because it contains some additions that I want to put back after. I believe it was as Michael S. suggests, that there was leftovers from third-party plugins that the uninstall does not remove.
