Guessing a Windows user. Updating Gimp is not a bad idea however please note
that re-installing Gimp does not remove/change your Gimp profile where the tool
settings are kept.

C:\Users\"yourname"\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10\

First thing to check is the Alignment - right down at the bottom of the menu (1)
and often overlooked. If that is in 'Registered' mode then for a single layer
you are cloning on top of the source and nothing happens.

While there try a reset to default values (2), might be a fix.

Still not working? Rename that Gimp profile as a backup. Start Gimp up and it
makes a new default profile. Check it works ok. Copy any resources
brushes/scripts..etc over from the backup.

I had the 2.10.10 version of Gimp on my computer and was editing many pictures
everyday, especially using the clone tool.
All of a sudden, out of nowhere, the clone tool stopped working. I set the
"source spot" using ctrl+left click and then wanted to start painting my
selection from my source but when I clicked and dragged across my selection,
nothing happened. It didn't change the image.

I updated to version 2.10.12 (latest version) but i still have the same problem.

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Re: [Gimp-user] Clone Tool

2015-12-24 Thread Alex Vergara Gil
I joined to this enhancement request with a slightly different
proposal, instead of a moving point to clone (which is the actual
behavior) it would be better a full warp deformable cloning area for
the clone tool.

For Domster, here is your solution

1. duplicate the layer
2. Rotate the duplicated layer (or warp transform it)
3. place a mark with the clone tool on duplicated layer
4. select original layer and start cloning.

This is what the enhancement shall do in background

happy gimping!

Is there a solution?

Just in case anyone else stumbles across this thread while trying to make
"tools that use CTRL" work in Gimp 2.8 in Ubuntu

I struggled with this for weeks, was on the verge of installing Windows just
so I could use Photoshop and then I found the solution.

- Go to "System Settings"
- Select "Mouse and Touchpad"
- UNCHECK the box "Show position of pointer when the Control key is pressed"

Then restart GIMP and hopefully, you'll be off merrily cloning and healing
to your hearts content!

Hope this helps someone

Sanjib, there probably is a soution.

But you will need to give more information. The clone tool works for
most people, so it's something about your computer, or the version of
GIMP you are using, or some other software you are running.

For example, tell us...
. the exact version of GIMP, and exactly where you go it;
. what operating system -- e.g. 64-bit OS X 10.3.2 on a G5 Mac Tower
. it sounds like you might be using both a mouse and a tablet, is that
true? What tablet? Which drivers for the tablet and how were they
installed?
. how *exactly* do you start GIMP? I don't mean here, "I'm sitting at my
desk facing North, wearing Adidas training shoes with green socks
and" but more, "I use the tablet pen to double-click on the GIMP
icon on the Windows 8 desktop" or, "I open a gnome-terminal window and
type "gimp&"...
. are there any error messages?
. Is there a sequence of steps we can try, first do this, then this next
thing..., that might show us the problem too?

Without this sort of detail I don't see how anyone can do any more than
guess, I'm afraid. The clone tool works fine here, but I don't have a
Wacom graphics tablet.

you'll probably notice the speedup in drawing.

Thank you for this advice.
After searching a bit about compiz I discovered that unity
is a compiz plugin - as for now, since this will change with 'mir' coming -
I like unity, so i wont get rid of compiz,

Then it seems that your gimp-installation doesn't accept ctrl-clicking
on the canvas on general. At this point, this is completely above me,
but maybe someone else can think of something with this info.

Tangent: While I've never personally experienced this behavior personally,
there ARE some times where if the Clone tool does not have a cloning source, I
wish the first click should behave like a Ctrl+click and set the source

[Gimp-user] Clone tool not working

2013-07-13 Thread Sanjib Sikder
Hi,

I am using GIMP 2.8.2 on Ubuntu 12.10.
The clone tool seems broken. It can not recognize the CTRL+left click. I
have tried with setting different key, which also does not work.

It always says "Ctrl-click to set a new clone source"

Doing that says "set a source image first"

How do I solve it ?

I have searched Google for a solution for long time and have seen that few
other users also faced the similar issue several times. But I cud not find
a solution which worked for me .

Thanks
