Well, then send Owen an updated version... It is IMHO a bad idea to have a * XInput Howto * XInput XFree 4.0 Howto * Wacom Howto * Wacom USB Howto * Wacom USB XFree 4.0 Howto * Wacom Graphire Howto * Wacom Graphire USB Blueberry Howto... I think, you got the idea. Please help Owen updating the XInput Howto. Bye, Simon -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.home.unix-ag.org/simon/

Good point, I'd not thought of that. > almost everyone else will have to learn things like recompiling > kernels , patching sources etc - Interestingly, I learned patching and recompiling when I wanted to add USB support. But boy, its not that fun. Especially when the Kernel wouldn't compile right, time after time after time. It wasn't the USB support either. it was odd low-level things like softirq.h errors. Anyway I'm rambling. Adding USB support is a bit of a challange, having done it three times now, I could do it in my sleep. For the first timer? I'd wait (unless you're just really adventurous like me) until kernel 2.4 is stable and standard in your distro of choice. -- +--+--+ | Deus Ex Heli0s {kevin} | "danaos timeo et | | [EMAIL PROTECTED]| dona ferentes" | | http://www.heli0s.com| -virgil | +--+--+ | Linux Inside; Slackware 7.01; Kernel 2.2.17 | +-+

You also need a special X driver and some special entries in your X config. As soon as you have the kernel, I can provide you the rest of the details. Maybe we should provide a FAQ for that. The yes, for you , me and any experience Linux people this isnt difficult, but you take our position for granted. almost everyone else will have to learn things like recompiling kernels , patching sources etc - and i think we can all appreciate that most GIMP users have trouble just with clean GIMP sources! ;-) alan

I've got Kernel 2.2.17 (but this works with .15 and .16 too, I've done it) with a 2.4 backport of USB support. Available @ http://www.suse.cz/development/usb-backport/ There are instructions here for setup. Wacom's have their own USB driver within the package. The patch applied easily to my kernel source, and i compiled it directly in (I prefer this to using modules in this case). The Linux USB site was helpful too, in setting up various settings (the only real work I did was setting up the device refrence as /dev/input/mice). Assumably, the Wacom setup should be even easier as it has a usb driver specifically for it, where as the mouse driver is generic. Hope that help's, let me know if you want any more info or help. -- +--+--+ | Deus Ex Heli0s {kevin} | "danaos timeo et | | [EMAIL PROTECTED]| dona ferentes" | | http://www.heli0s.com| -virgil | +--+--+ | Linux Inside; Slackware 7.01; Kernel 2.2.17 | +-+

Re: Wacom USB tablets
If it works with Linux, then it works with gimp. Yes, usb is supported. I believe you can find details in some Linux hardware-compatibility-HOWTO. regards, Petr On Thu, 9 Nov 2000, COUTIER Eric wrote: > Hello everybody, > > In my country (France), a supermarket sell a wacom tablet and mouse for a > nice price (i think).
