 It's called "Alien" but I don't want to use it here. Looking for deb
 natives. I also have to watch what they're compiled against... But it's
 a good suggestion otherwise.

Hi Jonathan,

Alien is an appropriate name... :-)

I have arrived to an dead end when trying to compile gimp-1.2.0
under my Openlinux 2.3.
The rpm package I got was packaged with rpm-4.0.x (I think it is
part of Red Hat distribution) and I can not open it.
:-(

I will have to look for another RPM package of gimp-1.2.0, if you
know of any place where to find them I will appreciate if you
email me.

 Note that gimp 1.2 says it needs gtk 1.2.8, but the package only depends

 1.2.8. 1.2.8 is available from Helix though.

Potato has GTK 1.2.7...

 Let me know if you want the packages I built, and I'll put them up
 someplace. I may put them up anyways, but I'm not sure how many people
 will want them, since you need to have Helix Gnome installed.

I'll keep your info on file. First I need to find out what files I need
to compile against potato and then maybe give that a try. In other
words, gimp 1.2 source, extras 1.2 source, and now apparently the gtk
1.2.8 package? Is everything else on potato that I would need? Or do I
need to dl the perl 1.3 package, etc...

Thanks.

 Not deb's.

I think there are some tools for converting a RPM package to
Debian deb's.
I have done the inverse process with a tool but I can not
remember now what's the name of it.

 These packages worked great for me, but I've been tracking unstable
 fairly closely for years now, so if you're still using potato, YMMV.

I looked on the main debian site and couldn't find gimp 1.2. You have a
site in mind that has it? I looked in potato and woody. Should I have
looked in sid?

Thanks,

Jonathan

Yes:

potato = stable
woody = testing
sid = unstable

You can try looking directly in /debian/pool/main/g/gimp1.2 and
/debian/pool/main/g/gimp-data-extras - you should find both the
binary packages and the source there.

Not deb's.
I have got some RPMs but for Red Hat (rpm-4.0 is needed).

I got them at ftp://rawhide.redhat.com/pub/rawhide/SRPMS/SRPMS/
   gimp-1.2.0-1.src.rpm
   gimp-data-extras-1.2.0-1

I am trying to compile them in my Openlinux 2.3 system.

First problem is that I need rpm-4.0
