It sounds like you're replying via a send and archive button.
Try this. Go to your Gmail settings, click on the General tab, scroll down
to the "Send and Archive" option and select "Hide Send & Archive button in
reply."

conversation doesn't show up in my inbox. It only shows up when i click
"all mail". Which would be OK, but "all mail" doesn't have an "unread
mail"-section on the top.
