The MBR points to the boot loader, presumably GRUB in your Ubuntu boot
partition. If
you can boot Ubuntu, this part is done and works.
You need to configure GRUB to know about the Windows partitions.
I have not used dual boot in many years; virtualization is more convenient. You

Thanks John. I got a little further.
Now I get an error that is related to hardening. The error blames AV SW on my
windows machine. I'm not surprised, but I can't even temporarily turn off the
AV to test the hypothesis. The machine is relatively locked down but I do have
admin privileges.
I've done a few of these. I just did a laptop with windows 10 installed
trippke booted with Fedora 27 and Ubuntu 17.10. Both Fedora and Ubuntu set
up the MBR to point to the respective os. I then had to edit the grub2
configuration to make Fedora the primary boot. I used the grub customizer

I had two Win10 laptops lose their Linux boot options at the same time,
also.
I think Microsoft is playing petty games.

Hi all,
I have an old Lenovo T440 laptop. It had 3 partitions: windows 8.1,
windows 10 and ubuntu. Recently the ubuntu partition became corrupted.. (I
don't remember now exactly what happened, I just know that all of a sudden
I wasn't able to boot into ubuntu). I have since re-installed ubuntu
Create your VirtualBox VM then go to Settings --> Storage. The IDE
Controller includes the virtual CD/DVD drive for the VM. Click on the
optical drive and then in the Attributes section click on the icon that
looks like a CD/DVD. This will allow you to choose your ISO image.
Hope this helps.
