Why yes, John, that's exactly it. I've only owned foreign stocks in mutual funds (and ETFs). So if you ask me right now, almost halfway through the year, how much foreign taxes I've paid or had paid for me, I just shrug. I won't know until next February. Oddly enough, one of the past letters

While I have nothing useful to say about tracking foreign taxes paid in GnuCash, I will add that IRS Form 1116 (https://www.irs.gov/forms-pubs/about-form-1116) is unpleasant to deal with and the firm that I work for usually elects not to file it, if the client meets the election requirements
