Thank you Vivian for your post. Let us focus on
 some concrete topics:

 1. Educational opportunities for Goans (not just
 those in Goa).
 2. Job opportunities.
 3. Environmental issues (there is a nice Wild Goa
 d-list).
 4. Consumer rights (support groups like Goa Desc).
 5. Issues of justice and equality (as it relates to
 corruption, poverty).
 6. Sustainable development of Goa and good
 goverance.
 7. Issues related to access for all (access for
 disadvantaged groups).
 8. Transporation issues.
 9. etc.

I am sure all of these topics have been suggested
before, including by those who wrote last month
about Think-tanks. But I think we need to be
reminded of the great potential and opportunities
lost by not discussing the above.

Mario responds:
George, I think all these topics are great. I suggest
that you and Vivian begin some discussions on these
topics, and let the chips fall where they may.

My observation is that those most vociferous in
complaining about topics on Goanet are the least
vociferous in making postings themselves, subliminally
demanding therefore that OTHERS be interested in the
topics that interest THEM. I make posts that interest
me, not to entertain someone else. On the other hand,
I have no problem if readers ignore what I say if it
doesn't interest them.

Over the longer term, the discussions on a public
forum like Goanet, in my opinion, will trend towards
the weighted average of the personal interests of the
POSTERS, not the passive READERS, and not necessarily
what is socially beneficial. A good example is in the
media, where, as the saying goes, If it bleeds, it
leads, and many socially beneficial news falls
through the cracks. Has something to do with human nature.

 Goenkars !

I am Glad that so many of our Goanetters have spoken
! I only hope that we feel the shame and move forward
in Focusing on Goa and all things GoaN.

I strongly believe that when one engages in duels
with fools one becomes a fool himself. *said Vivian

How many of us would fall in that category , i
wonder ?

I have known Vivian for nearly as many years as i
have been on this planet , he has and continues to
work for the Goan Community wherever that may be. He
is the past General Secretary of The Dar es Salaam
Institute -(formerly Goan Institute ) having spent
most his daylight hours running the affairs of the
club.

I believe that he has eloquently expressed himself
and said what I have been unable to put into words.

I am also glad that Victor , Santosh , Mario , Seb
, George , Edward and many others who have come out in
support of the Goanet Admin , they have shared with us
their thoughts , its now for the majority of us to
support the Goanet admin in how they run this egroup
and let us move forward.

It is a shame that we have just a handful of Goans
and Friends of Goa ( FOG ) who make posts on this
forum and express their thoughts on how this egroup
should be run.We need a consensus - that will
strengthen the hands of the Goanet Admin. on how they
need to run this Goanet organization.

Mere words will not help us , we need ACTION , as we
have heard from so many of us here and every where in
the world ...the people are just TIRED of
words...and as Nelson Mandela said - a few days ago
.. ...* We are HUNGRY FOR ACTION ! and so should all
of us ...WHO care for Goa and Goans.

I have often been reminded that - what one does for
the community one does it for himself...

I will share with you in the coming days of what
ACTION our WORLD GOAN ORGANIZATIONS are planing for
WORLD GOA DAY YOU too have a choice to JOIN the
celebrations.

I do not have an Internet connection at home as yest
( 2 months ) , I do therefore apologize to the many of
you who may have not received a reply to your emails
to me. i will asp.

I am pleased to inform you that Goanet will once
again support WORLD GOA DAY , I also hope that other
Goan Organizations will extend their support and work
in partnership. We canot afford to work alone , we need
partnership , togetherness , unity and everything that
brings TOGETHER.

I am also pleased to share with you all that We are
recommending that all participants of WGD - support
the Goanet and BSG partnership idea of * PLANT A TREE
* We are suggesting that all WGD functions should
begin by a TREE PLANTING ceremony Goans of Texas
had such a ceremony two years ago , they had a mango
sapling which they planted at the WGD event !, I
wonder if Santosh or some one else from that part of
the world can share their thoughts on that event ?

Thank you guys for bearing with me ... If you have
come to this bit , then you have taken an interest in
reading what I have said.

Some of the postings that we have seen lately are
downright disgusting. Under the guise of free
 speech
and open discussion the GoaNet Administration has
allowed such drivel, which in previous years would
have probably been censored and the offending
 parties
 banned from GoaNet.

Now, now, Cornel. Calm down, man. Why do you think
this diabolical system has lasted for so long? We
need to be patient. I am taking Avelino at his word
that he is just interested in learning more about the
subject. So, I have suggested he read the article in
America magazine, written not by you or me, but by a
learned Jesuit priest, and to let us know what he
thinks about it. In the meantime, let's all calm
down.

 Hi Mario,
