Re: [h-cost] Holiday/Secret Santa gifts

2005-12-28 Thread elena_o_tighearnaigh
Hello! My gift was from Carol Kocian, who gave me the book by Mara Riley,
Whatever Shall I Wear? and several small lengths of basic cotton and linen
twill type tapes. And also pieces of a pale green toile cotton for my
quilting, too!

Since I have decided to start playing in the era generally associated with the
civil war of the US, I'm definitely going to be using everything!

Thank you Carol, for these thoughtful gifts!

Elena, Gia

Naturally mine was waiting for me today when I got home. :-)
Sue Clemenger sent some chocolate truffles (Yum!) and a beautiful
blank book covered in green velvet, with a Celtic knotwork animal
design embossed into it. Very cool, thank you!

Glad it arrived safely! I was horribly late in sending it--we've had really
vile, icey weather (although it's mostly just drippy/wet now), and it made
navigating my way to the post office a bit difficult!

2005-12-28 Thread WickedFrau
So far all of my gifts from friends and family have been for the geeky
side of me. (I will be meeting with my sewing/costume friends this
Friday) I got an MP3 player and a new printer/scanner/copier/fax. But
my Secret Santa, Diana Habra, sent me the most beautiful German goller
made from black wool and linen, decorated with a hand stitched border of
luscious fawn colored silk!

I will put pictures of it up soon on the h-costume picturetrail!

2005-12-28 Thread Dawn
My husband thoughtfully gave me several books from my costuming
wish-list, The Little Hat Book, How the West was Worn, and a book on
making victorian style ribbon trim (coincidentally I had been drooling
over the very title a week before because I bought it for my exchange
recipient).

Cynthia, from the list, sent a box of assorted quilting fabrics and some
nifty buttons, for my other textile hobby.

I received a box from Germany that contained a lovely porcelain Faberge
egg. I'm having tourble figuring out the giver's name. Thank you
Secret Santa, who ever you are.

The closest costuming item I received was that my daughter I spent
part of the weekend updating my website and moving it over to a new
server. The only down part was the problem getting the e-mail
reestablished, I had 2 dayswith no mail hopefully there weren't that
many bounced messages. As soon as we found the problem I changed all
(where possible with out unscribing) my list settings to no mail.

A thought for next year if we do this again. I included a copy of the
information I submitted to Dawn in the package that went to my gift
recipient so she would get to know a bit about me.

My Secret Santa was Jayne Thomas from England who sent me some lovely
lengths of fabric- one in a silky, dusty purple/lavender and another in a
gorgeous red damask- I think this one is silk. She also sent me pictures
of her family and a lovely letter telling me all about herself. Thanks so
much, Jayne! Everything got here in plenty of time!

[h-cost] Holiday/Secret Santa gifts

2005-12-27 Thread Carolyn Kayta Barrows
I didn't really get any costume-related holiday gifts. I got a lovely
little 1906 how-to book on book binding, including how to make all those
period-pattern marbleized papers. I'm also getting new glasses, which I'm
having put into frames that are much more period-looking than the ones I
have now. But nothing any more costume-related than that.

I got a mysterious envelope with many cancelled stamps, for my collection,
and two skeins of really interesting thread suitable for either doll hair
or for making small crochet pouches with. Was that the secret Santa gift
to me?

I did finally get the Secret Santa gift I owed mailed today, to someone in
Erie, PA, who says she likes non-usual SCA costumes. I hope she doesn't
have anything like this...
