Re: [HCDX] Return of Zanzibar?

2022-03-28 Thread Anker Petersen via Hard-Core-DX
Dear Arthur,

Thank you for your message.

I also heard this new frequency at 1825-1857* in Vernacular here in Denmark
with SINPO 45444.
I heard it in // on one of the Kuwait Kiwi SDR with same strength.
At close down they announced their website: BBC Pashto.com.

Thus it is not a reactivated Zanzibar, but the BBC in Pashto on a new frequency.

Emne: [HCDX] Return of Zanzibar?

Someone is on 11735 now (at 1815 UT). No one is listed there at this hour
except Zanzibar. Have they returned to this frequency? Is there someone
better situated geographically who could check the signal?

Thanks.

SAL-12 antenna favors a southerly direction.  Could it be Radio San

Also heard in Skovlunde, Denmark with SINPO 55544 or S=9 +10 dB fading
to +25 dB.

But the broadcast was not clear, probably because of the two BUZZ AUDIO

I heard 9430 here in Denmark 28 Feb at 1958 with a very strong signal
and Afropop music.
At 2000 a man said "Hello" and had an interview in vernacular with a man
who twice, until I left the frequency at 2005, mentioned Uganda.

So it may be an Uganda clandestine from Meyerton after the recent
election in Uganda ???

[HCDX] New external service fromn Libya

2011-10-24 Thread Anker Petersen

Dear DX-friends,

I listened to Libya this afternoon( Oct 24) at 1610-1735 UTC on
11600.00 kHz which had a broadcast in French with SINPO 35433 - 45443
and S up to 9+30 dB, but a very muffled voice audio. Their audio of
music was perfect: Vienna waltzes and light instrumental music which was
often played! They had frequent, new ID's: Radio Libye, Tripoli and
Ici Radio Télévision Libye, Tripoli. This obviously has replaced the
former Gaddafi names Libyan Jamahariyah Broadcasting Corporation and
the external service Voice of Africa. Mostly talks on the same time
schedule as former Voice of Africa in French about the revolution and
future democracy in Libya, about the obduction of the corpse of Muammar
Gaddafi, the declaration of military victory of Libya in Benghazi and
the democratic election yesterday in Tunisia and about developments in
Syria. All was very different content to what was heard on the Voice of
Africa! Slight QRM from *1700 from CRI, Baoji in Swahili, then 54443.

[HCDX] Fw: Decision on ZLXA 3935 kHz

2009-02-08 Thread Anker Petersen
Dear friends,

Today came this message from the QSL Manager of ZLXA about a Board decision of
making a final SW broadcast on 3935 kHz on 20-22 March for us international
DX-ers.

Please publish this special event.

Subject: Decision on ZLXA 3935 kHz

Dear Friends

Following a meeting of the Board of N.Z. Radio for the Print Disabled Inc. on 2
Feb 2009,
below is an extract from the Secretary's reply to my letter of 26 January in
which I discuss
the possible closure of our shortwave service.

Quote:
The Board of the NZ Radio for the Print Disabled considered all the facts
presented but
came to the decision to cease broadcasting as ZLXA on 3935 kHz forthwith. The
main
reason for this decision is the state of the valves on the transmitter. We
would need to
renew the four valves (4/400c) at a cost of approximately $3000 also the cost
of power at
$400 per month and an annual licence of $700 combined makes this broadcasting
service
completely unfeasible.

We are at this point in time trying to raise finance to replace the MW
transmitter which
suffered damage during last year's storm.

The Board, though, has agreed to broadcast on 3935 kHz over a weekend from
5.00pm
Friday 20th March through to Monday morning 23rd March 2009, (0400 20/3 - 1900
22/3 UTC),
depending on the transmitter functioning for that period.

This is the best that we can do to enable the many international DXers to
receive our
transmission for one last time.
Unquote.

As you will appreciate, for an organisation reliant on grants and donations to
continue serving
our listening community, the shortwave component is no longer viable.
Therefore, RRS will maintain
local broadcasts on 1602 kHz (2XA) and 107.3 MHz FM only.

Kindest regards Best DX

Hi Glenn,
this is an interesting list !
I fact I wonder how up-to-date it actually is because it contains e.g.
this station:

4980 Ecos del Torbes 0900-0400 1234567 Spanish10 ND San Cristobal

which is inactive already for many years.

The list is dated April 15, 2008 so I am confused a little bit...

Thanks, 73

It`s CVC A Sua Voz, Miami via Chile, a real pest on 15410 as it runs all
the

way from 11 to 24 UT and collides with various other stations during many
hours.

You will find quick answers to a lot of questions like this if you

[HCDX] R St. Helena audible

2006-11-04 Thread Anker Petersen
Dear friends,

At exactly 1800, I heard time pips and a local anthem on 11092.5 kHz USB here
in Denmark. Shortly after a man (Robert Kipp ?) and a woman (the Manager of
Radio St. Helena, Ms. Laura Lawrence ?) gave ID for Radio St. Helena Revival
Broadcast. Pop songs and announcements. This is their broadcast towards New
Zealand, so the reception in Denmark is just SINPO 25232 on my AOR AR7030 PLUS
with 28 metres longwire.

Here in Europe it might be better at 2200-2330 UTC.

[HCDX] SW Radio Africa on 4880

2006-08-11 Thread ANKER PETERSEN
Dear friends,

During the past hour (since 1715 UT), Aug 11, clandestine SW R Africa,
probably via Meyerton, has been booming in here in Denmark on 4880
with still improving strength and a SINPO of 35344 right now at 1835 !
The usual spy station, reading letters, is also there on a slightly higher
frequency, but on my AOR AR7030PLUS it can be totally eliminated by
using LSB, so tonight nearly every word can be understood.

At 1715-1730 there was instrumental string music, 1730-1800 English
pop songs, and since 1800 the programme Hello Zimbabwe with
political phone interviews about the situation in Zimbabwe.

A clear ID was heard at 1825. Afropop from 1830. ID again at 1835 announcing
4880 kHz followed by a political comment about President Mugabe.

Best 73,
Anker

[HCDX] R St. Helena needs our help

2005-08-23 Thread ANKER PETERSEN
Radio St. Helena (RSH) needs our help !!!
RSH no longer belongs to the government but rather to the company St. Helena
News Media Services, whose CEO is Mr. Stuart Moors.
On Aug 23 I spoke to Ralph Peters, the station manager at RSH, and he told me
that RSH had suffered a ten percent budget cut and that the Board of Directors
of the owner company will hold a meeting very early in September.
He also said that he is still trying very hard to somehow reinstate the annual
shortwave broadcasts of RSH but that it is a very difficult fight (since he has

[HCDX] SW Radio Africa closing on SW

2005-05-31 Thread ANKER PETERSEN
12145, SW Radio Africa, via Tbilisskaya, Russia, 1630-1750, May 31, in what
obviously was their last SW broadcast as they announced several times: This is
the last Shortwave broadcast from SW Radio Africa. They would continue on 1197
MW and the internet. They also said at 1728: We wish our listeners to stay
strong, in whatever prison they are in right now!. Mostly News reel in mixed
English, Shona and Ndebele, and often in the latter two native languages with
many English words included. Slight jamming at times from jamming stations
purchased from China. Some audio fall outs throughout the broadcast. 44434
heard // 15145: 33222. It seems to me that President Robert Mugabe has won this
air battle! (Petersen)

[HCDX] 250th e-mail edition of the DX-Window

2004-07-17 Thread ANKER PETERSEN
Dear DX-friends,

Some of you old-timers may still remember when Radio Denmark in the late
sixties had a weekly programme in its English Service, edited by the
late Christian Flagstad, bringing DX-news from the Danish Shortwave Club
International (DSWCI) and called the DX-Window.

From 1987 till 1994 the DX-Window was a printed newsletter for members
of the DSWCI.

On 27th February 1996 Finn Krone resumed publishing the DX-Window, but
now distributed by e-mail. Today it is edited by Anker Petersen who this
week issued the jubilee E-mail issue no. 250. Please have a look at

[HCDX] Radio St. Helena sends QSL's

2004-05-06 Thread ANKER PETERSEN
Dear friends,

DSWCI member Robert Kipp has been helping the new station manager at
Radio St. Helena, Ralph Peters, to clarify the QSL situation now that
Tony Leo has retired. I forward their joint status message dated May 02,
2004, for your information.

Best 73,

Anker Petersen
Chairman DSWCI

RADIO ST. HELENA sends QSL's:

Radio St. Helena has mailed the last batch of QSL cards for
their special broadcast of October, 1999.
The cards have been mailed with St. Helena postage stamps
and transported by the mail ship RMS St. Helena.
The ship arrived on 29. April in Cape Town, South Africa. The
QSL's will be forwarded via AirMail on about 30. April.

Along with the QSL's sent by the (now retired) former Station
Manager Tony Leo in 2000, 2001, and 2002, this batch of QSL's
will now take care of all known outstanding reception reports
for the 1999 broadcast.

The new QSL Policy of the new Station Manager regarding the
special shortwave broadcasts from RSH is:
- 1999 and 1998: RSH can still verify these broadcasts.
- 1997: RSH will TRY to verify. No promise of success.
- 1996 and earlier: RSH can NOT verify these any longer.
The Station Manager regrets that 1996 and earlier
can no longer be verified, but due, in part, to many
changes at the station, the information is no longer
available, and time has simply run out.

It would be very helpful, if you would confirm receipt of your
QSL by email to R. Kipp, and if you do not receive your QSL by
the middle of June, please send him an email.

Radio St. Helena thanks ALL its friends around the world
for their interest in St. Helena, for their patience over the
years, and for their help in clarifying the QSL card situation.
Good health and good DX to ALL of you.

[HCDX] Final SW broadcasts from Norway and Denmark

2003-12-31 Thread ANKER PETERSEN
Dear DX-friends,

The Kvitsoy and Sveio shortwave transmitters are supposed to make their
final sign off at 2255 UTC tonight.

Again today I noticed that Merlin had replaced the NRK broadcasts at
xx.00 - xx.29 by relaye of the BBC World Service in English. However at
2000 an announcement in Norwegian was made, and 2000-2015 the New Year
message from the Crown Prince Haakon was broadcast in Norwegian.

The broadcasts in Danish continue at xx.30-xx.55 relaying the domestic
newscasts.

The final newscast was that of 1730 UTC and the final broadcast from
Denmark is now repeated as follows:

2030-2055 on 7490 Sveio and 9980 Kvitsoy.
2130-2155 on 7490 Sveio and 7560 Kvitsoy.
2230-2255 on 7465 Kvitsoy and 7560 Sveio.

The final Danish broadcast consists of:

xx.30 An adv that SW broadcasts are closed tonight and can be replaced
by a free newsservice on telephone 70 11 1830 (However this is
only free, if people calls from Denmark itself !).
xx.31-xx.50 Repeat of domestic newscast from 1730 which includes:
xx.32-xx.34 Extracts of Queen Margrethe's New Year's message.
(However her greetings to Danes abroad were omitted !)
xx.40-xx.43 Extracts from the feature by Preben Lund on the
closure of the SW broadcasts which started with the inaugural message by
King Frederik IX in 1948 (xx.40-xx41)
xx51-xx52 announcement that Due to New Year holidays, the usual Sports
news are not broadcast, but will return on Jan 02. (Also wrong because
the SW broadcasts cease tonight !)
xx.53-xx.54 piano concert
xx.54-xx.55 Interval signal: Som en rejsenlysten flaade.

That is all from Denmark !

Best 73 and Happy New Year,

Anker Petersen

[HCDX] Farewell programme from R Denmark

2003-12-25 Thread ANKER PETERSEN
7490/13800, R Denmark via Kvitsoy, Norway, 1430-1450, 1530-1550 and
1630-1630, Dec 25, a special Farewell programme in Danish produced by
Preben Lund, with a review of more than 55 years of shortwave
broadcasting from R Denmark from King Frederik IX inaugurated the
Herstedvester SW transmitter in 1948 till Director of News, Mrs Lisbeth
Knudsen, today argued for the closure of these SW-transmissions because
of big expenses and alternative technologies.

Unfortunately the Management of R Denmark and the Minister of Culture
have been misinformed about the real costs of leased SW broadcasts year
2004 and of the unavailability at many places abroad of fancy
technologies.

[HCDX] RE: (HCDX) How to get QSL from Greenland

2003-10-07 Thread ANKER PETERSEN
Dear friends,

I did forward this question:

Erik used to spend three weeks each summer working there while the
the regular staff took their annual vacation.

to Erik Koie at Radio Denmark and he just sent me this reply:

- I was up there in the 80's TEACHING young Greenlandic technicians how
to
use their technical equipment. And it was mainly during fall and autumn.

QSL'ing Greenland was also very difficult at that time, but I did my
best
to convince the Engineer to start replying the pile of letters I saw.

Today letters should be addressed to the Secretary, but he/she probably
knows very little, if anything, about these matters.

RE: [HCDX] Is Computer Logging DX?

2003-08-14 Thread Anker Petersen
Dear DX-friends,

This subject was discussed three years ago at the Conference of the
European DX Council in Barcelona and there was general agreement
that WEB LISTENING cannot be regarded as DX-ING. It is another
hobby which just requires that you know certain web addresses. The
stations are no more distant than your PC.

had heard the station over the Internet.

Well, I still consider QSL'ing a radio station over the WEB something
stupid. If RNZI wants to reply this message I would suggest them to
send an email QSL confirming the WEB DX or whatever you want to call
 it.

If we start accepting this kind of thing we could find ourselves in a
ridiculous situation where the radio will virtually disappear and will
be replaced by a computer. If this is the case, how about if I start
reporting and QSL'ing TV stations that I catch on Cable ?

Radio New Zealand International have recently received a Reception
report requesting a QSL from an Internet logging on a Pentium 4
 Computer.
It raises some interesting points on whether logging a station is
really DX and worth a QSL?

Any genuine feedback or comment will be passed on to Radio NZ
 International

 Hi Mark

RNZI has received this reception report requesting a QSL. As you will
 see
the receiver was a Pentium 4 1.7 ghz. computer - I had a chuckle about
 it,
but the guy is quite serious. I would be interested to know from the
 amateur
 community what they think?

My view is a QSL card was intended to acknowledge the expertise of an
operator of a short-wave radio in hearing a distant station. Surely
 clicking
on a URL does not count??!!

Some may call me old fashioned, but I would appreciate feed-back on
 this
 issue!

 Cheers

[HCDX] English from the Voice of Iraqi Kurdistan

2003-04-06 Thread anker . petersen
4085, Voice of Iraqi Kurdistan, Salah al-Din near Mosul, Iraq. While the
Kurdistan Democratic Front is approaching Mosul supported by U.S. Special
Forces, I heard for the first time a message in English via this clandestine. On
Apr 05 at 2000-2022 there was as usual a long proclamation against Saddam
Hussein in Arabic. This was followed by military band music and an eight
minutes long, but badly modulated message in U.S. English about the Iraqi
weapons of mass destruction, instructions to Iraqis on how to safeguard
themselves and not provoke fatal incidents at Coalition checkpoints, and
requirement that prisoners of war should be treated according to the Geneva
Conventions. After Kurdish music the station signed off 2033. 3 (Petersen)

2003-04-06 Thread anker . petersen
I also heard R Tanzania here in Denmark on 5 Apr at 1925-1935 in Swahili on 5050.1
kHz. It was
off at retune 2005. SINPO 24333 with slight CWQRM.
According to my notes it has been off the air on this frequency since the end of Nov
2002.

TANZANIA: R Tanzania, Dar es Salaam, 5050 on 6 Apr at 1645.
In Swahili, 1659 Drums, 1700 time pips, ID and into news. Some
QRM from a Chinese station, which signed off at 1700. I haven't
heard Tanzania on 5050 for couple of months during UT
evenings, maybe they've been inactive or irregular. Their tx is
slightly above the nominal frequency. The 1700 news was also
 relayed by Zanzibar on 11734.1

Very good strength! 73 from Björn Fransson the island of Gotland,

Re: [HCDX] Sawt al Islah

2002-12-22 Thread anker . petersen
Dear Friends,

I also heard the same station (Voice of Reform) Dec 21on new 9930 at 1833-1857* and
again at
*2058:53-2127:00*. The same man continued talking in Arabic on the usual 7590 at
*1858:50-
2058*, so it is rather obvious that the same transmitter is used, just switching
between these two
frequencies.

Best 73 and season greetings to all of you,

Anker Petersen
Denmark

Hi all,

Sawt al Islah noted on the new channel of 9930 (9929.96m)kHz at 1854 with a
much stronger signal than on 7590, though the bubble jammer has followed
them. Still has audio breaks.

Cheers,

Paul
