Re: [HCDX] Return of Zanzibar?
Dear Arthur, Thank you for your message. I also heard this new frequency at 1825-1857* in Vernacular here in Denmark with SINPO 45444. I heard it in // on one of the Kuwait Kiwi SDR with same strength. At close down they announced their website: BBC Pashto.com. Thus it is not a reactivated Zanzibar, but the BBC in Pashto on a new frequency. [HCDX] New external service fromn Libya
Dear DX-friends, I listened to Libya this afternoon( Oct 24) at 1610-1735 UTC on 11600.00 kHz which had a broadcast in French with SINPO 35433 - 45443 and S up to 9+30 dB, but a very muffled voice audio. Their audio of music was perfect: Vienna waltzes and light instrumental music which was often played! They had frequent, new ID's: Radio Libye, Tripoli and Ici Radio Télévision Libye, Tripoli. This obviously has replaced the former Gaddafi names Libyan Jamahariyah Broadcasting Corporation and the external service Voice of Africa. Mostly talks on the same time schedule as former Voice of Africa in French about the revolution and future democracy in Libya, about the obduction of the corpse of Muammar Gaddafi, the declaration of military victory of Libya in Benghazi and the democratic election yesterday in Tunisia and about developments in Syria. All was very different content to what was heard on the Voice of Africa! Slight QRM from *1700 from CRI, Baoji in Swahili, then 54443. Radio for the Print Disabled Inc. on 2 Feb 2009, below is an extract from the Secretary's reply to my letter of 26 January in which I discuss the possible closure of our shortwave service. Quote: The Board of the NZ Radio for the Print Disabled considered all the facts presented but came to the decision to cease broadcasting as ZLXA on 3935 kHz forthwith. The main reason for this decision is the state of the valves on the transmitter. We would need to renew the four valves (4/400c) at a cost of approximately $3000 also the cost of power at $400 per month and an annual licence of $700 combined makes this broadcasting service completely unfeasible. We are at this point in time trying to raise finance to replace the MW transmitter which suffered damage during last year's storm. The Board, though, has agreed to broadcast on 3935 kHz over a weekend from 5.00pm Friday 20th March through to Monday morning 23rd March 2009, (0400 20/3 - 1900 22/3 UTC), depending on the transmitter functioning for that period. This is the best that we can do to enable the many international DXers to receive our transmission for one last time. Unquote. As you will appreciate, for an organisation reliant on grants and donations to continue serving our listening community, the shortwave component is no longer viable. [HCDX] SW Radio Africa on 4880
Dear friends, During the past hour (since 1715 UT), Aug 11, clandestine SW R Africa, probably via Meyerton, has been booming in here in Denmark on 4880 with still improving strength and a SINPO of 35344 right now at 1835 ! The usual spy station, reading letters, is also there on a slightly higher frequency, but on my AOR AR7030PLUS it can be totally eliminated by using LSB, so tonight nearly every word can be understood. At 1715-1730 there was instrumental string music, 1730-1800 English pop songs, and since 1800 the programme Hello Zimbabwe with political phone interviews about the situation in Zimbabwe. A clear ID was heard at 1825. Afropop from 1830. ID again at 1835 announcing 4880 kHz followed by a political comment about President Mugabe. The cards have been mailed with St. Helena postage stamps and transported by the mail ship RMS St. Helena. The ship arrived on 29. April in Cape Town, South Africa. The QSL's will be forwarded via AirMail on about 30. April. Along with the QSL's sent by the (now retired) former Station Manager Tony Leo in 2000, 2001, and 2002, this batch of QSL's will now take care of all known outstanding reception reports for the 1999 broadcast. [HCDX] Radio St. Helena sends QSL's
Dear friends, DSWCI member Robert Kipp has been helping the new station manager at Radio St. Helena, Ralph Peters, to clarify the QSL situation now that Tony Leo has retired. I forward their joint status message dated May 02, 2004, for your information. Best 73, Anker Petersen Chairman DSWCI RADIO ST. HELENA sends QSL's: Radio St. Helena has mailed the last batch of QSL cards for their special broadcast of October, 1999. [HCDX] Final SW broadcasts from Norway and Denmark
Dear DX-friends, The Kvitsoy and Sveio shortwave transmitters are supposed to make their final sign off at 2255 UTC tonight. Again today I noticed that Merlin had replaced the NRK broadcasts at xx.00 - xx.29 by relaye of the BBC World Service in English. However at 2000 an announcement in Norwegian was made, and 2000-2015 the New Year message from the Crown Prince Haakon was broadcast in Norwegian. The broadcasts in Danish continue at xx.30-xx.55 relaying the domestic newscasts. The final newscast was that of 1730 UTC and the final broadcast from Denmark is now repeated as follows: 2030-2055 on 7490 Sveio and 9980 Kvitsoy. 2130-2155 on 7490 Sveio and 7560 Kvitsoy. 2230-2255 on 7465 Kvitsoy and 7560 Sveio. The final Danish broadcast consists of: xx.30 An adv that SW broadcasts are closed tonight and can be replaced by a free newsservice on telephone 70 11 1830 (However this is only free, if people calls from Denmark itself !). xx.31-xx.50 Repeat of domestic newscast from 1730 which includes: xx.32-xx.34 Extracts of Queen Margrethe's New Year's message. (However her greetings to Danes abroad were omitted !) xx.40-xx.43 Extracts from the feature by Preben Lund on the closure of the SW broadcasts which started with the inaugural message by King Frederik IX in 1948 (xx.40-xx41) xx51-xx52 announcement that Due to New Year holidays, the usual Sports news are not broadcast, but will return on Jan 02. (Also wrong because the SW broadcasts cease tonight !) xx.53-xx.54 piano concert xx.54-xx.55 Interval signal: Som en rejsenlysten flaade. That is all from Denmark ! [HCDX] RE: (HCDX) How to get QSL from Greenland
Dear friends, I did forward this question: Erik used to spend three weeks each summer working there while the the regular staff took their annual vacation. to Erik Koie at Radio Denmark and he just sent me this reply: - I was up there in the 80's TEACHING young Greenlandic technicians how to use their technical equipment. And it was mainly during fall and autumn. QSL'ing Greenland was also very difficult at that time, but I did my best to convince the Engineer to start replying the pile of letters I saw. Today letters should be addressed to the Secretary, but he/she probably knows very little, if anything, about these matters. 73, Erik Best 73, Anker Petersen Denmark ---[Start Commercial]- World Radio TV Handbook 2004 is coming out! RE: [HCDX] Is Computer Logging DX?
Dear DX-friends, This subject was discussed three years ago at the Conference of the European DX Council in Barcelona and there was general agreement that WEB LISTENING cannot be regarded as DX-ING. It is another hobby which just requires that you know certain web addresses. The stations are no more distant than your PC. Best 73, Anker Petersen Denmark On 8 Aug 2003 at 23:47, Marcelo Toniolo wrote: Last year I had a disagreement with Glenn Hauser about exactly the same subject. On that occasion someone from USA sent Gleen a message saying he had got a verification (QSL) from Liechtenstein. I thought Radio Liechtenstein was on Shortwave but for my frustration Glenn told me that this DX er had heard the station over the Internet. Well, I still consider QSL'ing a radio station over the WEB something stupid. If RNZI wants to reply this message I would suggest them to send an email QSL confirming the WEB DX or whatever you want to call it. If we start accepting this kind of thing we could find ourselves in a ridiculous situation where the radio will virtually disappear and will be replaced by a computer. If this is the case, how about if I start reporting and QSL'ing TV stations that I catch on Cable ?
