Dear hasafranim,
I'm looking at grants and, thinking big, am wondering about possible Jewish "e"
resources for small Jewish libraries. I know they're an expensive proposition
(and somewhat limited), but if this grant works out, something might be
possible. Where can I find current information
Dear Hasafranim,
A patron recommended a new LGBTQ children's book for Pesach called The Last
Place You Look by Wallace Skelton, published by Flamingo Rampant, a new press.
Aside from the pub. website, the only place it's listed is on Goodreads The
Last Place You Look. It's a little tough to

Dear Hasafranim,
Does anyone have any of the Promised Land Diaries, published by Baker
Publishing Group? I came across them on Amazon and despite the Christian
publisher, they look innocuous enough, but you never know. Would they be OK for
a Conservative shul? Here are some examples:
Dear Hasafranim,
I am considering reaching out to Jewish cookbook authors (I have not as yet
done so) about speaking at an author event for our synagogue, but if I find
someone, I am uncertain of how to structure it. Has anyone ever had a cookbook
author actually demonstrate a recipe for a
Dear Hasafranim,
A patron asked me about a children's book he grew up with that he'd love to
have for fun. Unfortunately, he can't remember the name, but here are some
clues:
1) The book was published in the 50s or 60s, with the usual 2-3 tone
illustrations of that period.
2) The title might
Dear Hasafranim,
I need to fill some holes in my collection, particularly in Apocrypha. All we
have are books from the 30s-50s from a Christian perspective, using the King
James translations.
Are there any collections you can think of from a Jewish perspective, with more
modern translations?
a big difference in how
many volumes there are.
It is probably the Random House one... the Koren one is much newer, and it is
unlikely that someone is ready to part with it.

Dear Hasafranim,
The president of our congregation recently received a letter from the son of a
now deceased congregant who would like to donate a set of Steinsaltz English
Talmud. I don't know anything more about the set and we can only contact him by
snail mail.
In the meantime, I'm trying
Dear Hasafranim,
A couple years ago, my library was in the middle of a budget crises, i.e. the
book budget was slashed in half, periodicals were eliminated, and my salary
didn't fare too well either.
Well, there's a new sheriff in town and it's time to submit new proposed
budgets. I'd like to
Dear Hasafranim,
I just came along a grey area that makes me want to rethink a few things about
classifying YA historical fiction, specifically biographical fiction. Someone
donated this older book, Bar Kochba, by Amram Whiteman. I have very little on
the period for kids, so I thought why not.
