I was getting that same message. But I found out for some reason it was
because I was using remote desktop sharing to connect to my server box
and start the dedicated server manually. When I would actually go to the
computer and do it on the physical machine it's self it had no problem
connecting.

Whats happening?
Does not affect me, but I'm sure its filling up the forums all round the

WOW! Most of this subject is Greek to me with what has been stated from
everyone. I only have a problem with my server being shown on the list after
a power failure or have to shut down my entire network, but, never have a
problem fixing it.
My setup: SURFboard4200 modem, D-Link DGL-4300 gaming
Hit the cancel button and run the client again. This is just the update
from last night, I am not sure why it would be slow (we will look into
it).

Well I'm glad to hear it wasn't my connection, though for me I updated
at about 6:30 pm hawaii time and it took maybe 6-7 minutes to complete.
I just assumed it was either netowkr overload or my ISP was going
bonkers :)

Actually, with Linksys oem firmware, your boxes will keep whatever IP
address they are initially assigned, but you can't specify the address. When
you reboot they keep the same IP address they had before. When Windows
requests an IP from the DHCP server, it tells the server what IP address it
Just an FYI, several people in our clan and pubs on the servers had to restart
to get the updates too, they were downloading VERY slow if at all. After a
restart of steam, it downloaded fine. Wasn't going to mention it, but since
they don't seem to be alone, there ya go. :)

Yes, I think that's why it was added. However I do remember hearing there
is a problem with -sport, so don't freak out if it doesn't work right
away, they are aware of it.

Thank you Smurf for actually giving me an answer

Hi.
I have a standalone HLDS and the Steam HLDS, and I cannot have VAC2 on both
after the update of today.
Its probably easier to set up static ip addresses on the computers
themselves. Doesn't take too long.. also probably better for security,
you can set up firewalls to drop any packets from the DHCP range.

FWIW, the same happens here. It runs up to about 26% and stalls, and has to
be restarted. After the restart the update maxes out my bandwidth.

I also specifically tested that I can run two HL1 servers at the same time
