[hlds] New update broke a lot of textures on custom maps

2010-06-24 Thread ics
So, anyone of you who runs custom maps on their CS Source servers, be
aware that following maps (and propably a lot more) have broken textures
due to the latest update. It seems that the textures have been removed
from the game for some reason and there is a checkerboard texture now
replacing them or just transparent wall. Textures that are mostly
missing are stairs, doors, railings and metal related. I would put up
some list here which ones but i can't open Source SDK after the update.
I guess that's partly broken too.

Re: [hlds] CSS OB first impressions?

2010-06-24 Thread D3vilfish - Simiancage.org
As a community we derive from back in the days of cs1.2/3/4/5.
When Source first came to our doors we embraced and shunned it at the same
time, we all loved cs1.x but new source was the way forwards.
So here we are source gone OB, love it or hate it, it's the way forwards.
Lots will argue the 66 tick rule, the numerous faults and god knows what
else but you know after 6 years of running and playing servers im quite
happy css finaly made OB.
It carries Valves support for hopefully plugging holes in what was a dated
engine.
This brings me to one observation that I have seen since CSS going OB.
We run our servers as secure as possible, file perms set to a diff user,
pure list kept tight and whatever sm/mm plugins are available to keep the
servers safe. We have a good group of active admins with experience to clock
dodgy players BUT
Since last night we have seen a huge amount of players join then disconnect,
maybe they have bad ping, maybe they don't like that pure list disabling
skins but I have the feeling that nobody realised how many hackers there
were out there.
We used to ban maybe 2 to 5 players a day with the old engine over 3 servers
with dodgy/obvious hacks.
Today we have banned 1 in 24hrs.
I know they will eventually script there sad lives back into cheating but
for now it's just a slice of heaven.
So for the first time in my life I commend valve on bring CSS up to date and
making it a viable game that will have more attention the same as TF2
L4D2.
As for gaming as a client I'm now 37 and past my sell by date for all these
younguns that have lightening quick reactions.

Re: [hlds] New update broke a lot of textures on custom maps

2010-06-24 Thread ics
Got a hammer finally running so i checked the textures from some of the
maps i could get open. They are as follows:

EFFECTS/METALFENCE007A
EFFECTS/METALDOOR017A
EFFECTS/STAIRSAFRNT

Best thing to do would be to readd them to the game so the maps wouldn't
have checkerboard textures. Some of these are very well loved on servers
and it would be a shame to leave them as they are. I doubt the mappers
are around to fix all of them.

Re: [hlds] [TF2] Client Demo Issues

2010-06-24 Thread MjrNuT
This occurred on June 20th. I have also seen it continue with client demos
made since then. I made a couple last night, but have not reviewed them as
of yet.

So, I have been current with TF2 all the time as the above example was made
and reviewed within an hour. Server was up to date as well. I know there
was a ninja update yesterday. My TF2 updated and I updated our server
today.

Again, this stutter issue only occurs on demo playback. Game play is
without issue.

For the stutter issue, are you using a demo file from a previous TF2
version or does this happen when you use a demo from the current version?

Re: [hlds] [TF2] Client Demo Issues

2010-06-24 Thread Cc2iscooL
As far as the client getting values overwritten by the demo, if you have
scripts that execute on your client when you make the demo, those values
will also exec on the client side of the person reviewing the demo. Thus is
why I recorded off of source tv server instead of client.

Missing textures from maps, and servers crashing due to certain maps
IS relevant to server administration.

Thanks,

Best thing to do would be to readd them to the game so the maps wouldn't
have checkerboard textures. Some of these are very well loved on servers
and it would be a shame to leave them as they are. I doubt the mappers

Re: [hlds] CSS OB first impressions?

2010-06-24 Thread dmex
Who said its dead? I remember it being removed years ago and being brought
back because a majority of the community voicing their feelings on the
forums, I don't think Valve want to go though that entire drama a second
time... its a new engine, so give them time...

As a community we derive from back in the days of cs1.2/3/4/5.
When Source first came to our doors we embraced and shunned it at
   the

   same

time, we all loved cs1.x but new source was the way forwards.
So here we are source gone OB, love it or hate it, it's the way

   forwards.

Lots will argue the 66 tick rule, the numerous faults and god knows

   what

else but you know after 6 years of running and playing servers im
  quite
   happy css finaly made OB.
It carries Valves support for hopefully plugging holes in what was
   a

   dated

   engine.
This brings me to one observation that I have seen since CSS going
   OB.
We run our servers as secure as possible, file perms set to a diff

   user,

pure list kept tight and whatever sm/mm plugins are available to
   keep

   the

servers safe. We have a good group of active admins with experience
   to
   clock
   dodgy players BUT
Since last night we have seen a huge amount of players join then
   disconnect,
maybe they have bad ping, maybe they don't like that pure list

   disabling

skins but I have the feeling that nobody realised how many hackers

   there

   were out there.
We used to ban maybe 2 to 5 players a day with the old engine over
   3
   servers
   with dodgy/obvious hacks.
Today we have banned 1 in 24hrs.
I know they will eventually script there sad lives back into
   cheating

   but

for now it's just a slice of heaven.
So for the first time in my life I commend valve on bring CSS up to

   date

   and
making it a viable game that will have more attention the same as
   TF2
   L4D2.
As for gaming as a client I'm now 37 and past my sell by date for
   all

   these

younguns that have lightening quick reactions.
