Re: [hlds] Mandatory Team Fortress 2 update released
Thanks for being one of the few Valve people who give any kind of communication, but that is a pretty bad explanation. One can say it is unlikely that people have been exploited because it was disclosed privately and such... but that is not a good security mindset. What exactly is the harm in saying the scope of the vulnerability, especially now that it is fixed? :/ On Wed, Feb 3, 2016 at 7:29 PM, John Schoenickwrote: > The issue in question was discovered and reported to us privately, so we > don't expect any action should be necessary for up-to-date servers. > > It is always, of course, a good idea to ensure you are running servers > with the least necessary privilege to limit the scope of any > vulnerabilities future or present. > > - John > > > On 02/02/2016 02:55 PM, Emil Larsson wrote: > > What was this security issue exactly? Re: [hlds] Killing Floor 2 EULA: Removing server owners?
Oh boy, more sensationalist anti-EULA shit. Tripwire isn't going to do anything to your servers or to your game key unless you're intentionally making issues for massive amounts of other people. They should make the EULA's wording seem less scary, just to make this fear-mongering bullshit that everyone is crying about everywhere stop. The Jan/Feb 2014 update made only Quickplay match Valve servers by default. While this can be changed, the setting is hidden behind menus that few players investigate. This bias unfairly cuts out all the communities that have supported TF2 for years and removes variety, custom content and choice from the user. We decided to give her admin, and then she could ban any herself, which ended the situation fast, because then as soon as it happened, she banned them. You don't need to test sv_pure. Should use sv_pure 2 anyways, but you won't as that would conflict with your pay-2-win garbage. You're just lucky Valve doesn't ban for mathacks.
