So was I. If the clients don't have a choice about patching and can't

I was referring to server updates.. but it seems from all the mails that
doing a gracefull shutdown is the way to go with a "correct" srcds_run I
presume, I would suspect -autoupdate should do the trick but somehow I don't
think that's going to work (tf2 never did with that)

In the root netconport, type "find" - you should get a list of commands.
One of them is "shutdown" which will stop each server after it becomes empty

Those things are often missed if the new textures/models/materials
aren't downloaded properly (hence -verify_all usually fixes it). If
that doesn't fix it then I'd continue to complain.

I ran recently a TF2 server on that machine for testing purposes before
converting it into a Linux webserver. Performance was actually decent.

In fact, it seems like it'd have to be significantly more than 2 servers if
we're talking about map load times. It seems like the servers would have to
be changing maps at the same time for there to be a problem.

I would say that the load times are negligible. As long as you have 7200rpm,
it will load the map fast enough. If you wanted more servers then 1 rpm
would be better but for 2 7200rpm is fine.

Is that % of a single core on that quad core or across all 4 cores? I
was just looking to host one co-op and one VS at most on the machine.
But I do want good loading times.

Oh I thought he meant like 'windows error reporting' but sends a report to
steam, not windows :-)
Also, does steam report to Valve HQ if the game crashes?

I typcially will use net console port, the master, and issue shutdown.
As each fork finishes it's current game they exit. When all have
exited it does the auto reboot which triggers the update.

Hi,
We have L4D forked servers running off 2 machines.
Servers running off IP 85.17.239.149 work flawlessly, their full most of
the time.
Servers running off 85.17.60.96 get NO traffic whatsoever, are not
visible in our steam group and won't be picked up when using
sv_search_key
At 85.17.60.96
Steam is a program made by VALVe. Steam developers are VALVe developers. So,
of course they talk to each other since they work in the same building.

It's not quite that pointless if you want decent map change load times.
What you could simply do thought is sticking some extra RAM and create yourself
a RAM drive.

I have X3360 (2.83GHz / Quad). When server is in COOP mode it uses ~30% of
core. When server is in VERSUS mode then it is ~20% of core. Memory is
always about 250-300MB per process.

I would say a dual core processor and 2 gigs of ram with a 7200rpm HD at
least. It really depends what you expect to put on it.
