If I had given this much thought to what note I was suppose to be playing or
what key the rest of the orchestra was playing compared to what my
transposition was, I don't think I would have ever played the correct note.

You will find that all the horn parts in the Shostakovitch have what you will
need for the audition. Most of the time what they audition committees want to
hear is in the first movement. The low loud section for all four horns.

Our first flute here in Buffalo won the job when at the end of her
sophomore year in college.
If you are ready, and that is the key, go for it. Today auditioning is
an art in itself, and the more experience you can get the better.
