Re: [IAEP] [support-gang] Plan Ceibal's Khan Academy Web site
Hi Adam, best regards from Santiago. The spanish localization of Khan's videos has been an joint effort between IADB, Intel and the ministries of education of Uruguay and Chile. Chile's tasks was to translate the Biology videos, don't know why they are noy included in Ceibal's portal. Also the same videos were also ttranslated to portuguese. I speak about localization because in many cases the videos had to be re-mixed, for example, because of different rules in the use of commas or any text appearing in the video. I've heard that the use last year (officially launched in June at http://virtualeduca.org/encuentros/panama/) has been very striking, counting the spanish and the portuguese, lessons deliverd touch the 5 million (a Khan delivered lesson is counted when the video has been enterily watched). Best wishes, Werner 2013/1/17 Holt h...@laptop.org These vids seem high-quality, does anybody know how Ceibal did this? (not that I speak Spanish unfortunately!) Any idea how many of the world's 465 Million Spanish speakers can-or-care to watch these, as Wifi/Net/4G invades more rural parts of Latin America?
This event will congregate a lot of Fedora contributors from Latin América. ¿What are the major and urgent tasks or challenges for the Fedora community related to Sugar, as a spin?, ¿how can local deployments foster Sugar development as a spin? Whatever thoughts are welcomed. Best wishes, werner ___ IAEP -- It's An Education Project (not a laptop project!) IAEP@lists.sugarlabs.org http://lists.sugarlabs.org/listinfo/iaep

[IAEP] GCompris problems on SoaS
Hello, regards from Chile. Working with a teacher, she wanted to explore GCompris activities loading them in her SoaS, in the context of our first pilot deployment in K-3. But there's a problem with launching those activities with this message: Cannot find cached 0sugar-launch implementation. It's confusing the situation, because she said the in the first instance the activities did launch, but now they won't. I tried it out on my SoaS and had no trouble with one GCompris activity (weigthscale), but I downloaded 2 of the and had the same problem. Can this problem be solved in any way on the SoaS? One of the requirements are that the technology had to be deployed previously and had some evaluative conclusions of it's impact. [IAEP] Sugar in Chile
Greetings to all. Patricio Acevedo left the audience shocked after presenting Sugar in the 2nd Innovation Workshop: The Creative Teacher, held in the Metropolitan Educational University, in Santiago, Chile. The workshop strives to present and share educational resources to support learning experiences builted by teachers, so Patricio deployed Sugar's creative potential for teachers and students. Many questions were asked at the end of the presentation ( http://prezi.com/139914/), by an excited audience of pedagogical carrers students and professors. More details (in spanish): http://www.educalibre.cl/blog/viewpost/1226.html This is not the first time we present publicly Sugar, but it's the first activiuty we held as Sugar Labs Chile!!! So it's our official kickoff, and we are happy to say that things are starting to move favorably. Patricio's presentation is another step in our effort to generate alliance with this university. The announced Sugar pilot in Punta Arenas will start tomorrow as the responsibles come back from winter break. We will be presenting a formal proposal for a small deployment in Huechuraba (a local county that has bought 2.000 Classmates), to be held in 2010. Step by step, we are moving forward. We want to appreciatte Bernie Innocenti's support building our wiki ( http://cl.sugarlabs.org), we wil be working on it this week. Thank you. [IAEP] Sugar Labs Chile proposal
To David Farning, best regards from Santiago, Chile. I'd like to officially nominate Chile as a Local Lab: http://wiki.sugarlabs.org/go/Sugar_Labs_Chile We, Educalibre (http://www.educalibre.cl), were hoping to be ready as a formalized NGO, but the process will not end before 2 or 3 months (it started August 2008). It woud be best to sign the MOU once we are formalized completely. But things are starting to work out with Sugar in Chile. We are starting a pilot in Punta Arenas, where the Sugar on a Stick will be running over Classmate 1, and another pilot is on it's way in Huechuraba County, outside of Santiago. We have the support of interesting allies such as initiatives related to school innovation through ICTs, universities (inlcuiding a educational university), Intel (who's shown great interest and commitment). This year, Classmate 1 Mobile Labs (on a cart) were distrubuted to public schools oriented to 3rd graders, and SoaS+Classmate is seen as a great alternative. We are also have close contact with Sugar Labs Colombia, who are also starting to roll out pilots, and we've commited to share and build collaborately (we are starting to design a course oriented to teacher profesiona development, and have a basic Sugar course and agenda as well). All of the above has pushed to finaly run Sugar Labs Chile. Hope to hear from you soon, werner ___ IAEP -- It's An Education Project (not a laptop project!) This presentation will be held by Pato Acevedo, who you already know in this list for his e-Toys contributions (http://patoacevedo.oamm.info/wordpress/). Also myself, who was asked by Enlaces to generate a deployment project for OLPC, but was sadly unsuccessful (http://www.olpcnews.com/countries/chile/free_xo_laptop_children.html).
