No STK developed ICEBERG (RAID 6 architecture); Kodeack (RAID 5
architecture) and Arctic Fox (Solid State device) which FROZEN DOG never
got out of development.
The VSM is RAID 6 architecture under the covers and yes SUN bought STK
then Oracle bought SUN/STK.
The point I am try to make is there
Our agency just replaced 10 (ten) STK 9310 silos with 2 (two) Oracle
VSMs (Virtual Storage Manager) and 2 (two) Oracle SL8500 tape
subsystems. They are working GREAT!!

We just purchased SUN/STK 9840D drives that can be GEN'ed as 3590; I was
told by the SUN/STK sales representative that T1 tape drives had to
be GEN'ed as 3592 which meant PTF's amd PRE-Reqsfor our OS.
Better check this.

My understanding from IBM and Oracle/SUN/STK all 3490 support was
supposed to go away in January 2010; however, Oracle/SUN/STK changed
that date to January 2011. 9310 Silo support is supposed to go away in
December 2010.
Call your IBM sales representative he should be able to find out.

Both vendors are now offering TCP/IP replication as an option for DR;
the cost for TELCOM is less; however, is still expensive. We are
reviewing that as I type.
The IBM VTS B20 we currently have utilized a FICON data stack for
replication. This became cost prohibitive and we had to un-peer our

And what about the ICEBERG from STK when it was STK.

Hi Jim,
Google is not very helpful.
1. What is the Mps to Ghz conversion for our mainframe - i.e. we have a

2. How many virtual Linux servers would a zO8 IFL support with a

Has anyone running z/OS Release 1.9 had a problem with batch jobs

There are potentially 2 scenarios here. The first is when Checkpoint

The second is when the IHJ000I message is produced with RC14. In order

Define PAVs as DYNAMIC and Not STATIC; the DASD Subsystem will put the
water where the fire is.
I have seen 47 PAVs (I have 48 defined to each LCU) volumes to one
logical device.
Also if you are ESCON consider going to FICON; a considerable difference
in performance.
