Or you could recreate the missing catalog, recatalog the dataset to it (define recatalog) and then move the dataset somewhere else, then delete the new catalog. If there are othjer datasets on the volume, you would be better off zapping the VVDS than deleting it. If you look at FSZAP you can

late again here, I see some great suggestions for the catalog solutions tool, I think IBM bought that company and rebranded it ? the tool I use is Dyno-Softs TREX, it can update the VVDS entries across many volumes, I don't see any examples I have that replace the catalog entry in the VVDS

For what my memory is worth, I would suggest you begin by running a 'LISTVTOC' (using IEHLIST) and proceed from there. It *might* then allow you to reset the VVDS and whatever else, provided you specify whatever other parms for it (but probably not ones for IEHLIST.)    E.g.
