Or you could recreate the missing catalog, recatalog the dataset to it (define
recatalog) and then move the dataset somewhere else, then delete the new
catalog. If there are othjer datasets on the volume, you would be better off
zapping the VVDS than deleting it.

I think NO is the short answer to your question. This sort of problem can be

For what my memory is worth, I would suggest you begin by running a
'LISTVTOC' (using IEHLIST) and proceed from there. It *might* then allow
you to reset the VVDS and whatever else, provided you specify whatever
other parms for it (but probably not ones for IEHLIST.)
E.g.
you need to either use AMASPZAP or full screen zap.
I don't think there are any other kinds of JCL to do it, except maybe for some
Vendor programs
