Dear listers we are trying to automate our RACF generated CSR automatically send to external CA for signing but RACF compliance of RFC822 converts @ symbol in SAN email to ' ', causing them rejected. Currently either we use OpenSSL or GSKKYMAN to massage email address. Is there RACF RACDCERT enhancement that i am missing or any better way to manage email fields. STC logs to archieve
In our system STCs JESJCLIN JESMSGLG JESJCL JESYSMSG SYSPRINT SYSABEND etc all are written in MSGCLASS , SYSOUT Class X but only SYS* Messages are read by the JOB OUTPUT manager for archiving. JES* messages remains on spool and eventually purged. How can make JES* messages also directed to Job output manager? Installing RHEL 8.3 in Native LPAR
I have been struggling to install RHEL 8.3 on a native HMC LPAR (Z14). My CPC is with multiple IFLs and I have configured couple of LPARs with Linux, 16 GB memory and with both Dedicated and non Dedicated IFLs but my Load from REMOTE MEDIA server to upload RHEL ISO (DVD image) hangs and times out after 55 minutes, the LOAD function expire time. my FTP *nix server is work fine as Load function can easily find genric.ins from the mounted ISO image but hangs after that. DVD image is 6.3 GB and hence can not create a DVD for a direct DVD load on HMC. Has anyone installed RHEL 8.3 successfully on a Native LPAR (no z/VM or KVM) and willing to help. Mainframe behind Firewall / F5 - Data Power
We have been asked to move our mainframe from green zone ( multiple OSA 10GBs connecting to routed Layer 3 Switch) where zOS Stack / OSPF doing load balancing, error recovery to behind Firewall and may be with F5 (or IBM Data power). we are on Z14 / zOS 2.3 and parallel Sysplex with same box. If yes, then I am happy to contact you one on one to understand how Can I Still use my zOS IP stack VIPA and OSPF Load Balancing between multiple OSAs as we are not suppose to broadcast any routes. Will it affect any Hipersocket , XCF / CTC IP ? and Yes we do not have CISCO - ACI implemented and network Admins have aversion for it. we are getting new z14 and time to revisit our CTC configuration. Is there a complete documentation on FICON CTC implementation and its potential usage / configuration for various subsystems e.g. VTAM, TCP/IP, GRS, NJE, XCF etc . we are single CPC SYSPLEX environment and just exploring where all CTCs can be used. I find running DEV+TEST and PRODUCTION at different locations and cater for Service Continuity by swapping over to other site with automated CBU/COD. Dear listers I am looking for MVP (minimum Viable Product) to provide End-to-End visibility of Business Applications where back-end is Mainframe - CICS (Inbound services via CICS Listener, Liberty, Outbound via CICS Web Services) MQ (CICS - MQ, DB2 - MQ, FTE etc) DB2 (CICS-DB2, JDBC, ODBC etc) and of zOS. We do have various products - SAS / MXG / CMF / Mainview / NetMaster /RMF / CICS PA / True Sight / BMC CAZe but all fall shorts and does not integrate well with Front end tools such Kibana - Splunk - App dynamics to not only give, overall status of individual services Health (traffic Lights) but also to provide Interactive Interface to the user in Near - real time to have *some* visibility inside Mainframe various components. We do have most of these data / visibility on the mainframe but all of them consume heavy MSUs and require Mainframe Components knowledge. Writing our own healthcheck Apps is intrusive (non-Production workload), repetitive and uses MSUs wherver SMF has these matrices anc can be offloaded *ONCE* and then can easily be manipulated on one of the cloud servers. Does any other site have the same issues. Thanks Lizette / Tim I still have to disable Migrate before Backup would work but have another question. My zFS is big and I am happy to take a backup with TOL(ENQF) as it contains extremely STATIC Objects which are FTPed from GIT (window$) during the deployment cycle. My zFS is mounted R/W but I really do not care about sysplex wide Quiesce as long as Static data is recoverable without any data concurrency requirement. Auto backup of zfs
I am trying to start auto backing up a zfs dataset. Management class CMD/AUTOM MIGRATE set to YES, BACKUP FREQUENCY set to 1, # BACKUP (DS Exists / Deleted) set to 6 and 2 and AUTO BACKUP set to ye. Storage Group has AUTO BACK set to YES. Still there is no Auto backups but I can do Command backups. Can someone please point me ion the right direction. Hello All We have zBC12 and z13s but no crypto cards. As we are moving all our IP communications to SSL/TLS, Is there a way to estimate additional MSU used in this encryption/decryption and key negotiations. IP traffic is CICS socket, HTTPS , FTPS, TN3270S, DB2 DDF , SSH etc..Its all over the place. SLIP trap on High CPU usage
Dear listers Is there a way to slip trap on a module/STC if it starts consuming higher MSU in zOS 2.3. My problem is a vendor product where a user exit is being repetitively called, issuing unnecessary GETMAIN/FREEMAIN. Vendor has asked us to dummy out user exit and fix will come in the next release. This problem is intermittent, generally happens once every couple of hours during online window. Dummied out User exit has provided relief, still management perceived notion that Mainframe is expansive and Vendor reluctance to disclose what process is initiating call to this exit, is there a way I can set a slip trap whenever CPU usage is spiked so that I can go back to vendor with SVC DUMP/ Systrace (Mod names) of the exact problem. We do have Strobe but strobe can not automate this request without integration with iStrobe and BMC Caze. Finally we are getting an IFL from IBM on trial to install Linux on our z13. No KVM or zVM on the Mainframe. I am looking for any redbooks or IBM installation document for Linux on zSeries. I am inclined towards Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS 7 as I expect it to be better integrated with APACHE SPARK. Hopefully IBM zLinux document can give me comparative studies of different Linux distribution available on zSeries. seeking expert advise , experience, gotchas, ROTs. Action: Ensure that the file or directory exists. Got my NFS client working and now off to NFS server before venturing in to NFS security and encryption. Hi Andrew Thanks for the hint. Last time I read about HTTPS, when I was attempting to implement SSL on our ezasocket CICS Listener. I just hope that I do not need another licensed product. I do not think HTTPS is the solution in our case but may be a replacement for FTP. NFS is such a *out of box things* in non-Mainframe world and surprise to see its not popular/standard in Mainframe which is taken for granted to be large Data server. I have got NFS Guide and reference 640 Pages manual to review and was expecting if any kind lister can give some pointer to implement NFS with and without security. To start with. I am planning to l configure NFS client on my Sandbox zOS 2.3 LPAR and NFS server on sandbox AIX 7.1 LPAR (using classic IBM Hypervisor). Depending on the outcome, I may switch zOS to be the NFS server. Our main objective is stop FTPing tens of reports but write them to NFS so that end-users (non mainframers) can pick them up. Martin/Andrew SMF/CMF are least of our concern at the moment. We are initially inclined for any automated tool that can A.read SAS PDBs and convert them to DB2 tables and/or flat file. Tool must cater take for packed, COMP data elements. B. Can read SAS code and give us some basic converted Java code C. Will be good if the tool can convert DB2I calls to JDBC calls We have tonnes of reporting even business application logic in SAAS which over the time has become part of production. SMF should be manageable as it's mostly system/ security related reporting and we can mend our ways.. Thank you all for your replies. changing batch job to use SSL
Dear Listers I have a pure COBOL batch job that uses socket programming (EZASOCKET) to fetch some sensitive data from an external server. I would like to change this IP connection between Mainframe (Client) and External server (Specialized Application Server that does support SSL/TLS) to be secure. I have installed Server Public Certificate ( with CA certificate /TRUST) to a key ring and made this batch user the owner of the ring. Still the batch job is not trying to communicate SSL. We are z/OS 2.1 and z/OS HTTP / HTTPS enabler is not available to us. Can Cobol program support SSL? Hi We are JES2, z/OS 2.1 and would like batch to issues a WTOR (Confirm Y/N ?) if a job is submitted by surrogate Batch Id in a specific JOB class of a specific LPAR. We are plex and this job class is JES2 initiator (not shared, non WLM) and WTOR is required only if JOB is scheduled to run in a particular LPAR - Job class. Firewall under z/OS 2.1
I have to block my Host z/OS 2.1 one port for all access except than coming from one single server. We do have SERVAUTH, Port SAF protection, NETACCESS but I think to achieve this I got to activate IP Filtering. RTFM tells me that as soon as I activate IPSECURITY and IPSEC static statement (no PAGENT at this time) by default it blocks all traffic.. 4 hour rolling average MSU calculation
Dear Listers How does the 4 Hours rolling average MSU is calculated ..what is the interval ..is it based on RMF type 70 recording interval, 10 seconds interval or WLM interval.. dose it matter if LPARs are defined at SOFT / HARD / GROUP Cappings. Reason I am asking this question is that I can easily find out how long the system has been capped and would like to predict how long the system will be capped based on our projected workloads and service requirements. Thanks Kees & Ituriel, Still i am struggling to tell WLM how PI of a workload may have different acceptance level on different LPARs. For Me I just would like WLM to schedule workload on one LPAR unless that LPAR can't run it or is not available. I know i can do that by establishing/ controlling RESOURCE group / Scheduling environment via MVS commands but would be easier If i can define this rule within WLM policies. WLM managed workload
Dear Listers Can some one please point me in the right direction to implement WLM managed job class that can schedule jobs on different LPARS selected on basis of service class Performance Index and/or soft CAPPING status of individual LPAR. Creating Scheduling Resources / Environment and using automation to turn off/on resources is a possibility but I prefer the first option.. By the way it is DB2 9.0, z/OS 1.12 parallel sysplex environment. ZFS MountCall / Osi Wait
Dear Listers I am trying to IPL one of the PLEX system in MONOPLEX (also tried XCFLOCAL) after creating IMAGECOPY of the disk subsystem. This single system image is taking hours to come up due to OMVS delay - ZFS MountCall / Osi Wait and multiple IOEZ00807I, IOEZ00397I. Our Plex is 6 systems parallel sysplex running on EC12, Z/OS 1.13. and ZFS is defined as SYSPLEX=FILESYS with sysplex shared root. Most of the ZFS files are READ only and as such we do not have any business / user data in ZFS , just the configuration files and hence do not care about recovery of ZFS as long as static data (configuration data) in the zfs file is intact . Is there a way we can expedite our unix system services startup in a monoplex system.. Just read somewhere that non volatile CF has better performance than Volatile ..but there is no ROTs or any indicative relative perfomance figure or how to measure / monitor it.. Coupling facility - Non Volatile performance
Dear Listers, Due to IBM Health checker report we have to change mode of our Coupling facility to non Volatile.. CF is running in a partition on CPC, shared by 4 z/OS LPARs making it a sysplex. We are enabled for CICSPlex , DB2 Data sharing, RACF Database Sharing, SMSPlex, Catalog ECS etc etc.. Can someone point me in the right direction to measure performance gain (due to change of CF Mode) , if any. reomving COMPACTION from SMS DATALCLASS
I am thinking of removing COMPACTION for all our SMS DATACLASS specification.. Is there any Gotcha? It has been in use for historical purposes but does not give us anything except occasional job failures when STOP X37 can not manage Extended format Compacted datasets.. Do I need to DSCOPY or Migrate/recall datasets defined with Compaction after the change.. found it..its in our old trusty manual DFP Daignosis.. Requested space exceeds 65535 tracks for a data set type that is limited to 65535 tracks per volume. Iam stuggling between system messages vol 1, DFSMS Advanced copy services and DFP Advanced services manuals and can not find the answer.. Hello Listers Jobs are submitted using WLM initiators form Production and Development systems in our shared JES2 MAS. Our development system becomes Part production during night batch. Is there an easy way we can have different PROCLIB concatenation for our Production and Development systems either based on system from where the job has been submitted and what time or based on the job class Modifying jobs to have JCLLIB ORDER is not an valid option unless it can be automated.
