Wow. I am so glad that my firefox is able to show the Tamil text in
graphic detail both on the archive interface as well as quote it
correctly in this mail as well.

I am really glad. I installed the latha.ttf and configured firefox for it.

I hope you guys have all done it. But the kudos should go to
Google's efforts in localization and several other efforts in this
direction.

As to answering Kenneth's question I think he is right but the
difference is rather unimportant since many LUGGers do not live in
Chennai I think.

This in my opinion proves two things:
   a) ILUGC is superior to all other LUGS in India ;)

   b) The traditional Tamil respect for talent and outsiders

This is why we have Rajnikant and MGR making it big in Tamil Nadu.
We have close to zero xenophobia here. We are even better than
Americans in this regard as US has got very protectionist due to the
recent recession.

Vazha vaikum Tamizhagame vazhga!

By the way I did not grow up in Tamil Nadu though I am 100% Tamil.

Nice. But I still prefer my powerful editor. So, here's an addition to
the tip:

if you use Emacs, you can make it fullscreen (e.g. in KDE 4+, right
click on the title bar, choose Advanced-Fullscreen). Then, M-x
tool-bar-mode and M-x menu-bar-mode will clear stuff for you. Which
(regular) Emacs user uses the menu/tool bars anyway?

A similar effect can be achieved in gvim using:

:set guioptions-=m remove menu bar
:set guioptions-=T remove toolbar

HTH.

[Ilugc] Great tip to create syntax highlighted color PDF from C files

Guys,

This is simply amazing. Try it and then see! ;)

Fire up vim and open a C file.

$ vim foo.c
:hardcopy %.ps

$ps2pdf14 foo.c.ps

$ xpdf foo.c.pdf

What do you see?

In case you don't have syntax highlighting enabled by default, you can
:sy on

before the :hardcopy step.

Here is a great sample:

http://gayatri-hitech.com/Misc/sqlex.c.pdf

Do you guys know any other way to create color PDF of syntax highlighted code?

I dunno any.

Enjoy!

 Hello,

The kind of annotations I'm talking of are typewriter inserts,
rectangles, oval, circles, lines, arrows, comments, link boxes etc.

I don't know about all these things so my suggestion may be a bit
off. I _have_ done PDF markup in two ways:

  1. Write text on top of the PDF file. One can do this with flpsed
which is short for fltk PostScript Editor.

  2. Fill up PDF forms by extracting the FDF data. One can do this
  with pdftk.

In most of these s/w, PDF needs to be converted as PS/ background
images and then edited. E.g GIMP brings them in as images. This is a
big issue when we have multi-page documents. If these were annotation
elements, then we can turn their visibility on and off, skip from one
to another while reviewing feedback given as annotations etc. Filling
up forms can be met by ftpsed or pdftk etc. as we do not need
extensive annotation capability. Comments and notes are the one used
most in reviewing. Arrows, box markers, highlights and link embedding
are use less but are important nevertheless.

As far as I've read, Okular does not have these features. It, however,
has the capability to read/render different formats. This makes it an
interesting platform for review/ annotation across multiple formats.

I did not know of Xournal and it does seem to explicitly support PDF
annotations. Need to check that out.

I had not dwelled much on PDFEdit earlier as it was described as a
library. Seeing it now, I see a GUI thingy. Need to explore this too.

Given all this, I still think it is a worthwhile project for some one
to take up on Okular.
