[efloraofindia:318321] Fwd: Orchid Id from Bangladesh_SM_1402

There are two different species of Dendrobiums in the pictures. I assume
the one on the back a bit above is Dendrobium chrysotoxum (but I need to
see proper image with flower); the one in front should be Dendrobium
farmeri, but as I said, I cant confirm from these pics. Dendrobium farmeri
is known from Bangladesh.
Easier way would be to compare your plants with the above names or show me
better pics. I would be happy if you dont have to damage the plants for
that. These are becoming rare day by day and could be only living image of
the two species in Bangladesh.
Thanks and regards
Pankaj

Re: [efloraofindia:318314] Tinospora Cordifolia identification character

2019-03-11 Thread Ushadi Micromini
Sharmila
depends on where you bought the giloy stems?
at some ayurveda store? or market vendors who bring herbs and roots
how long after harvesting/procuring from where it was growing...

what we see in large cities is quite woody, with outer skin all tightly
stuck to the stem itself
or flaked off.

yet the cross section would look like a central spot with spokes of wheel
type structures going to the periphery
this link is from flickr, picture by Subhada Nikharge

it clearly shows the chakra like structure that doctor in that utube was
taking about.
secondly , it also shows that the skin is paper thin and flaking.

hope this helped

For identification, learning, discussion & documentation of Indian Flora,
please visit/ join our Efloraofindia Google e-group
 (largest in the
world- more than 2975 members & 3,00,000 messages on 25.7.18) or Efloraofindia

database of more than 12,000 species & 3,00,000 images of which 1,00,000

[efloraofindia:318310] Efloraofindia website updated upto 28th Feb.'19

2019-03-11 Thread J.M. Garg
Dear members,
It's heartening to reiterate that *Efloraofindia*
*
is the largest google e-group/ forum in the world *in this field & the
largest nature related e-group (and the most constructive) in India with
around 3,18,300 messages so far & membership currently around 3040 nos.

efloraofindia (eFI in short) website
 is one of the biggest
non-commercial site, one of its kind in the world & also without
advertisements, based on the collection of photographic images of wild
plants, where no money or professional organisation is involved except for
the selfless efforts of its members from diverse backgrounds. It is
documenting flora of India that is being discussed on efloraofindia google
e-group along with
supplementing the working of the group.* It also has the largest database
on net on Indian Flora with more than 12,000 species (along with more than
3,00,000 pictures)*, from some of the best Flora Photographers of
India. Members
should add Efloraofindia
website link in their
favourites & give species’ links from this while posting or replying in a
thread as lot of discussed data is already available here.
Intent of this website is compilation of all the posts on 'efloraofindia'
e- group along with providing other details so that it’s useful to all
concerned as all the data about a particular species will be available
under a single head & *easily searchable*. However, correctness of data/
identification in the efloraofindia (earlier indiantreepix) links is
dependent on the members’ inputs in that particular link. Therefore,
errors/ mistakes cannot be ruled out-everyone is requested to point them
out for corrections by sending an e-mail to .
Efloraofindia e-group members can also add comments about it after 'signing
in' at the bottom of the page.
Surfing efi has become much easier with subpage listings
. Members
are now allowed to insert images in efi site
 from
efi e-group discussions. There has been tremendous response to this
initiative & we now have images on all species pages. We have
simultaneously started displaying these at genera & family pages with
comparative images of various species for easy identification (about 170
families already completed). Insertion of images will also increase the
accuracy of efloraofindia database
. *More than
1,40,000 unique images have already been inserted.*

More important is the fact that thousands of observations of hundreds of
our members are available here (many of which one will not find documented
anywhere) & easily searchable through general web searches (after adding
efloraofindia) as well as by searching in the Efloraofindia
 website
. And these are going to
increase with every passing day. These original observations will be a
treasure trove & will a delight to a lot of people. With the pace at which
new species are being added to our database, it should become the premier
resource for taxonomic research in India. As the data is multiplying, we
need more volunteers to take up this work. Details can be seen at Volunteers
required
.

For better viewing of species' pages, colour scheme & formatting is being
followed as at the footer of every efloraofindia page.

These days a lot of inf. about Indian Flora is available under Cc-by license
 (Licensees may
copy, distribute, display and perform the work and make derivative works
based on it only if they give the author or licensor the credits in the
manner specified by these). Due credits/ attributions are to be given. Such
sources include Wikipedia, India Biodiversity Portal, IUCN Red List, PFAF,
Flora of Tibet website, IBIS Flora etc. I am trying to add such inf. with
due credits. I am also trying to add keys & summarizing the information at
the top of the page (for the pages I am coming across while adding
information from current threads). Genera pages are also cleaned up so that
species (due to wrong botanical names or being syn. of some other species)
are deleted or properly connected as per the current accepted name along
with references. Future eFI genera pages will be like *Cyanotis*

depending
upon the time we get, as & when we update a genus page so that we are aware
which are the species which are likely to be found in India

[efloraofindia:318297] Tinospora Cordifolia identification character

2019-03-11 Thread Sharmila Punde
Dear All,
Many videos of Ayurvedic practitionars or traditional Ayurvedic
healers specify one charactristic to identify Giloy(Tinospora cordifolia).
Even read in one book about the same character to identify this plant.

Providing the following link which says, Tinospora cordifolia has very
delicate skin as bark after certain period of life of plant. If we remove
skin, inside there is fleshy stem.
I had Tinospora cordifolia for three years, but never observed such fleshy
stem. Stem of my T. cordifolia was not such fleshy. Such kind of skin never
seen on it. The characters like leaf veins, flowers, fruit, cross cut
section of stem showing tiny holes was matching exactly. But this character
of delicate skin and fleshy stem never occured.

Link to youtube:-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nULrX40E3a4
Note that it is free link for all by channel 'Being Positive'.

Question: Is this the primary identification character of Giloy(Tinospora
cordifolia) plant?

Thanks
Sharmila

to se the foot of the mushroom and also in which surrounding it is
growing under,  which tree, in the "company" of ...

I have written several time, what information is needed to identify a
mushrool I am not going to write the same again and again.

Very sorry.

and now  a list, what simon says:

547 f: ein Stielporling
587ff: keine Ahnung

(Sporenpulverfarbe?).
0011: irgendein Baumpilz (Fomitopsis oder Ganoderma oder so)
113-115: ein Verwandter des Düsteren Röhrlings?
489/90: ein Pfifferling, vielleicht C. amethysteus

I think, Indian experts should better be consulted.
