This is Rhopalephora, perhaps not scaberrima. Please keep eyes on fruits,
it must be sessile. We have proposed a species in Rhopalephora (=Aneilema)
as A. sessile.

It is in press, I strongly believe this belongs to A. sessile.

Interesting to see the capsule and seeds, Saroj ji. We have come across one
unique population here in mainland India, we identified it as *Commelina
erecta*.
Eastern, northeastern India, Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh have more such
elements with solitary to aggregate spathes, blue to mauve, lilac flowers,
muricate to smooth capsules and smooth seeds. All these are mingled between *C.
plaudosa, C. kurzii, C. maculata, **C. undulata, C. ensifolia*, *C. obliqua*.
I have tried to resolve the complex at some limit, but need more
observations on the collections from the entire Indian sub-continent.

If you are going to visit this place again, please try to observe how the
seeds are arranged. I still remember a specimen from Idukki housed at
Madras Herbarium I have identified as *Murdannia glauca*.Its polymorphic
species and number of stamens often varies from 2 to 3, but uniseriate seed
arrangement make it different from others.

This is more inclined towards *Cyanotis vaga*, but I afraid that it is such
a polymorphic and widespread species. Someone should study *Cyanotis
barbata *and *C. vaga *complexes.

East Africa houses more than 100 Commelina's. It's difficult to have
precise ID, can you some other views?. It look likes similar to Indian
Commelina petersii, but I am not sure.

Indeed, these are two different Commelinas.
Perhaps I can give ID based on the flower colour: blue flowered appears to
be Commelina maculata and lilac or mauve can be Commelina paludosa.

Dear Saroj ji,

I missed this email. It is albino-flowered (unusual, I have never seen
before) *Commelina maculata. *
*C. paludosa *and *C. undulata *has large, rounded, usually lilac or white
petals, and acute spathes. Whereas, *C. maculata *can be sorted by its
small, ovate, blue (rarely white) petals and apiculate to acuminate
spathes. Although, all the three species often found difficult to recognise
in the field, if you are not familiar with key features.

Leaf or the spathe hairs perhaps can refer to reduce the grazing. As much
haired are less browsed and less affected!

Hairs on stamens in *Cyanotis*, *Murdannia *and *Tradescantia *are
unicellular and moniliform as well. But here it can be referred as food or
help to attract the pollinators.

Hairs on fruits, as in section Rhopalephora are usually glandular, and may
referred as to improve the seed dispersal.

Dear Sevvel ji,
Leaf surface hairs vary, especially in *Commelina*. You can confirm with
the capsule and seed characters.
I believe this is possibly *C. ensifolia*. Do confirm.

Habit picture will be crucial at this occasion if it is the robust herb,
and has the rosette leaves then possibly *Murdannia loriformis* or
else *Murdannia
**nudiflora*. The latter is very common.
