[IM-Talk] Re: Intermapper Splunk App

2013-02-21 Thread yozh

I updated to the latest version, while device list does populate... the map
does not load The default map specified during setup cannot be located.

In the log there are no errors, just says that device list is loaded...

RE: [IM-Talk] Re: Intermapper Splunk App

2013-02-15 Thread Mark Jenkins
There's a new Beta (0.7.6) of the InterMapper Splunk app out on
Splunkbase which is supposed to have improvements to dashboard
generation, better notifications of problems connecting to the
InterMapper server and more graceful handling of missing Layer 2 data. I
suggest trying the new version to see if that resolves any of your
issues with the app.

Mine still isn't fixed. Apparently the layer 2 discovery process
creates a file
on Intermapper that the splunk app turns around and reads through http
to
generate the map. On my Intermapper server the layer 2 discovery
never
completes. It hangs at random times and for no apparent reason. I
have a
ticket open with them from back before Christmas and it remains
unresolved
 at this point.

One thing that wasn't very clear to me in the documentation is that
the
splunk app adds a probe (called layer 2) to the splunk server. You
have to get
that probe and import it into Intermapper and then create a device
that uses
that probe. It doesn't matter what device, but enabling that probe
will allow
the Intermapper server to perform the layer 2 discovery.
You will also have to tell Intermapper which maps you want it to
perform
layer 2 discovery on and disable autoupdating the map if you have your
maps
laid out in a specific way. If you don't disable autoupdating up the
map, it will
make a mess of your work. :)

I'm sure YMMV - this is all from my point of view.

RE: [IM-Talk] Re: Intermapper Splunk App

2013-02-15 Thread Mark Jenkins
If you're still having problems with the 0.7.6 version, is the app
giving you any error messages (e.g. on the Default Map page you may see
Default Map Not Found or Error: Unable to connect to InterMapper
Server; on other pages you may see a red bar at the top with an error
message)?

Otherwise, there is a log file which may help track down the problem at
$SPLUNK_HOME/etc/apps/InterMapper/local/imAppLog.log (where $SPLUNK_HOME
is the directory you installed Splunk to).

Re: [IM-Talk] Re: Intermapper Splunk App

2013-02-15 Thread Howard, Christopher Bryan
I just installed the update to the intermapper app and it appears to be
working for me now. The default map loads and the device list is no
longer empty. There is no layer 2 data in there right now, but that
problem lies on the Intermapper server (polling hangs and never
completes), which I had a ticket open for, but I've not heard back about
it in a couple months now.

Only thing I see that's not desirable with the new version of the
intermapper splunk app is that my splunk box is pretty much hosed.
Sitting at 100% CPU usage, used up all its RAM and most of its swap space.
It's not a huge box, but up until now it's been overkill. Hopefully this
subsides.
