[IRCA] TP 1 Feb Victoria version

2017-02-01 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
The band seems open again over the last few days, after weeks of
doldrums, and apparently a little K=5 isn't going to hold it
back. Understandably, much of the action was DU, but the big Asian
guns weren't exactly hiding in the undergrowth just before
sunrise. Not much noise and splatter this morning meant that some
weak ones crept through too.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

594 JOAK woman in Japanese 1526UT
747 JOIB man in Japanese 1516UT
774 JOUB man in Japanese //747 1516UT

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

612 4QR man and woman in DU English, call in quiz of some sort? 1527UT
828 JOBB man in Japanese 1517UT, seemed to be a peak for NHK2 just then
891 5AN two men doing teletalk 1421UT, DU English, faded somewhat by
1430UT, but definite fanfare then
1116 4BC "on Brisbane's news talk 4BC" by man 1528UT, not really
strong, but clear

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

603 unID man holding forth in DU English 1331UT, then a more relaxed
sounding man, no parallels found
972 HLCA two women, one on phone, in Korean 1350UT, only for a couple
of minutes

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

576 two men talking, DU English inflection 1351UT
702 2BL woman talking //612 1529UT
756 RNZ National two men talking //837 1414UT
738 2NR woman talking //612 1407UT
747 4QS man talking //612 1535UT
774 3LO woman talking //612 1547UT
837 756 RNZ National two men talking //756 1414UT
855 4QO/4QB woman on phone //612 1534UT, very faint but this portion
of the band was quiet
891 man talking DU English inflection, 1530UT, had a sort of ABC
sound, but no fanfare on the half hour

891 JOHK woman talking //594 1517UT

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter)

1242 1566 seemed to be Asian; 531 792 909 936 seemed DU

best wishes,

Nick

[IRCA] Alberta TPs for 2 February 2017

2017-02-01 Thread Nigel Pimblett

One solitary TP signal this morning:

1116	4BC Brisbane, AUSTRALIA	Fair with news by woman at 1402. Rapid
up/down fading. Two minutes earlier even the time pips were inaudible.

A number of carriers on the regular DU channels, but pretty much zero
from Asia.

Given the paucity of TP signals the past couple of days I was checking
my recording from the good Japanese morning of the 30th, and discovered
three Alaskan signals (KNOM, KICY, and KBBI). Probably the three
easiest AKs from here, but still the first I've logged all season, so
nice to hear.

Steve:

I'm hearing R. Algérienne, 252, at 0400 with an S7 signal. Medi 1 Radio, 171,
is poor, while R. Marocaine, 207, is barely audible. I'm surprise I can
anything considering the increased geomagnetic activity. No European stations
are audible.

Re: [IRCA] S. AZ LWBC 171 good and the west coast experience

2017-02-01 Thread Walter Salmaniw
Surely a big zilch on the west coast. LW or MW to Europe is closed. On
the other hand, walking home from downtown, I marveled at the night sky. A
very bright Venus, then Mars, and a crescent Moon, all in a row in the
south-western sky. Above the moon was Uranus (visible with my binoculars)
and to the east was the Orion Nebula in the constellation of the same name,
below the famous belt and quite visible, best again through my
binoculars. Sure beats DXing sometimes! Oh, almost forgot about Neptune
above the western horizon. Not 100% sure whether I saw that one for
certain or not with binocs again. Kind of magical to see all of that
majesty in our night sky! 73, Walt

171 is doing very well at 0230 utc here. Medium level! The R75's sync
detector has lock and is giving good audio--it takes a good signal to do
that. 252 only very poor/poor at this time.
