Bismillah [IslamCity] Prophet's wife novel to be released in UK

2008-09-07 Thread Shahid
If you look throughout the Muslims' history, you will find that the kuffar and
the enemies of Islam have always attacked Islam in Ramadan and at other
religious times.

It was Europe that sent the crusades on the muslims, it is Europe that
supported and protected Salman Rushdi, it was Europe that created the
"Muhammad" cartoons and spread them across Europe, it was Europe that banned
the hijab and building of minarets/masjid, and even now it is Europe that is
publishing this book.

It should be obvious to the muslims that Europe is an enemy of Islam and is
attacking Islam anyway it can. Muslim world should respond by boycotting
anything and everything that is European (from the countries involved)!

Prophet's wife novel to be released in UK

Martin Hodgson

The Guardian, Thursday September 4 2008

A novel about the child bride of the prophet Muhammad is to be released in the
UK next month, after its publication was cancelled by a US publisher.

The Jewel of the Medina is by first-time novelist Sherry Jones, and was
published in the US last month by a division of Random House, but was pulled
after scholars of Islam objected. At the time, Random House said it had
received cautionary advice that it might be offensive to some Muslims and
"could incite acts of violence by a small, radical segment".

Yesterday, Jones' agent, Natasha Kern, said the rights had been bought in 10
countries, including by Gibson Square in the UK. In a statement, the firm's
publisher, Martin Rynja, said: "I was completely bowled over by the novel and
the moving love story it portrays. The Jewel of Medina has become an important
barometer of our time. "

As the story of Muhammad's favourite wife, Aisha, the novel is criticized as
being provocative and historically inaccurate by academics. Denise Spellberg,
who teaches Islamic history at the University of Texas at Austin, described it
as "soft core pornography" .

But Random House's decision to pull the book sparked intense criticism from
critics and literary bloggers, who compared the case to Salman Rushdie's The
Satanic Verses.

Kern said that Gibson Square had been chosen because it of its past experience
of controversial books - last year, it published OJ Simpson's hypothetical
account of the murder of his ex-wife.

In August, a Serbian publisher quickly withdrew an edition of The Jewel of
Medina from shops after protests from local Islamic leaders who said it
insulted Muhammad and his family.

Bismillah [IslamCity] CALIPH UMAR'S SON MARRIES A MILKMAID

2008-09-07 Thread muslimah muslimah
CALIPH UMAR'S SON MARRIES A MILKMAID
One night, Caliph Umar as usual went in disguise with his companion Ibn Abbas
to see the condition of the people. They strolled from one quarter to another.
At last they came to a colony where poor people lived.
While passing by a small house, the Caliph heard a whispering talk within. The
mother was telling her daughter that the amount of milk fetched by her for sale
that day was very little. She told her that when she was young, and used to
sell milk, she always mixed water with milk, and that led to considerable
profit. She advised her daughter to do the same.
The girl said, "You adulterated milk, when you were not a Muslim. Now that we
are Muslims, we cannot adulterate milk." The mother said that Islam did not
stand in the way of adulteration of milk. The daughter said, "Have you
forgotten the Caliph's order? He wants that the milk should not be
adulterated." The mother said, "But the Caliph has forgotten us. We are so
poor, what else should we do but adulterate milk in order win bread?" The
daughter said "Such a bread would not be lawful, and as a Muslim I would not do
anything which is against the orders of the Caliph, and whereby other Muslims
are deceived."
The mother said, "But there is neither the Caliph nor any of his officers here
to see what we do. Daughter you are still a child. Go to bed now and tomorrow I
will myself mix the milk with water for you." The girl refused to fall in with
the plan of her mother. She said, "Caliph may or may not be here, but his order
must be obeyed. My conscience is my Caliph. You may escape the notice of the
Caliph and his officers, but how can we escape the notice of Allah and our own
conscience." Thereupon the mother remained quiet. The lamp was extinguished and
the mother and the daughter went to sleep.
**
The next day, Caliph Umar sent a man to purchase milk from the girl. The milk
was unadulterated. The girl kept her resolve. CaliphUmar turned to his
companion and said, "The girl has kept her resolve in spite of the exhortation
of her mother. She deserves a reward. What reward should I give her? She should
be paid some money," said Ibn Abbas. Caliph Umar said, "Such a girl would
become a great mother. Her integrity is not to be weighed with few coins; it is
to be measured in the scale of national values. I shall offer her the highest
award in my gift, and which shall also be in the highest interest of the
nation."
The Caliph summoned the daughter and the mother to his court. The mother
trembled as she stood before the mighty ruler. But the girl faced the Caliph
boldly and with great equanimity. She was beautiful, and there was an
impressive dignity about her. Then before the gathering, Caliph Umar related
how he had overheard the mother and the daughter, and how in spite of the
exhortations of the mother the daughter had kept her resolve.
Someone suggested that the mother should be taken to task. The Caliph said that
ordinarily he would have punished the mother, but he had forgiven her for the
sake of her daughter. Turning to the girl the great Caliph said, "Islam needs
daughters like you and as a Caliph of Islam it devolves on me to reward you by
owning you as a daughter." The Caliph called his sons, and addressing them
said, "Here is a gem of a girl who would make a great mother. I desire that one
of you should take this girl as wife. I know of no better bride than this girl
of sterling character. In matters of wedlock, it should be the character and
not the stature in life that should count."
Abdullah and Abdur Rahman the elder sons of the Caliph were already married.
Asim the third son was yet unmarried, and he offered to marry the girl.
Thereupon with the consent of the milkmaid and her mother Asim was married to
the girl, and milkmaid became the daughter-in-law of the Caliph.
>From this union was born a daughter Umm Asim, who became in due course the
>mother of Umar bin Abdul Aziz. Umar bin AbdulAziz was elected as Caliph and
>served for a short period during 717 - 720.
-
While other Caliphs of the Ummayad dynasty reveled in luxury, Umar bin Abdul
Aziz as a Caliph set up standards for austerity and simplicity following in the
footsteps of Caliph Umar, the second Caliph of Islam. It is said that if ever
there was a noble Caliph after the first four Rightly guided Caliphs, such a man
was Umar bin Abdul Aziz. And he inherited the noble qualities of the milkmaid
who married the Caliph's son, and those of Caliph Umar Farooq who had the eye
to discern the nobler qualities of sterling character in a poor girl.

[IslamCity] Anwar rises above allegations of immorality to challenge the
foundations of UMNO rule in Malaysia

Anwar rises above allegations of immorality to challenge the foundations of
UMNO rule in Malaysia
By Abdar Rahman Koya in Kuala Lumpur
http://www.muslimedia.com/my-anwarwin.htm
If the trend of powerful political parties expiring after fifty years’ rule is
anything to go by, then Malaysia ’s ruling United Malays National Organisation
(UMNO), in power since the country’s independence from Britain in 1957, had
better be prepared. Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim is thought to be close to
carrying out his now-familiar threat to engineer a mass-defection of government
MPs and show UMNO the door long before the next general elections, which are
due in 2012. His threat seems to be real, especially now that he has
embarrassed the government and grabbed a resounding victory in a by-election on
August 26, barely six months after the setbacks suffered by the UMNO-led
National Front coalition in the last general elections.
PIC: Anwar with wife Wan Azizah, casting their ballots on August 26.
The by-election on August 26, called the “mother of all elections” by both
opposition and government supporters, followed a gruelling multi-million-dollar
campaigning by UMNO in Permatang Pauh, a semi-urban multiracial town in the
northern state of Penang . Anwar obtained a majority bigger than that won last
March by Dr Wan Azizah Ismail, his wife, who resigned the seat she had held
while Anwar was in prison to pave the way for her husband’s official return to
Malaysia ’s political stage.
The result shows that the Malays’ political loyalty – and indeed the respect
they have for the ruling UMNO – was affected badly by Anwar’s dismissal and his
launch of the reformasi movement, and indeed it now seems to be lost almost
permanently. But all that was more than ten years ago; such a loss in Malay
support is worse now because of the almost complete desertion of the ruling
coalition by the non-Malays, namely the Chinese and Indians, caused by a number
of factors, the most important of which is the perceived discrimination against
them in the distribution of the socio-economic pie.
No amount of assurance by government leaders that judicial and economic reforms
will take place has removed the suspicion that change can only come through
Anwar and the coalition of parties he leads. That the larger show of support
comes at a time of intense propaganda against Anwar’s character also confirms
how little credibility (scarcely any) the ruling party has managed to retain
since 1998/99, which is when Mahathir orchestrated the campaign to destroy his
deputy’s political career. This time around even an oath sworn upon the Qur’an
by the accuser in the latest sodomy allegation against Anwar, which was
broadcast repeatedly during television news bulletins almost every day
throughout the campaign, had failed to persuade voters to forsake Anwar. The
result is that a clear line has been drawn, and for the first time in Malaysia
’s history the government, despite all the machinery on its side, has found its
match.
Although Anwar could not have pulled off such a feat without the full support
of the Islamic Party (PAS) and the Chinese-dominated Democratic Action Party
(DAP), the fact is that neither could the opposition have achieved the kind of
political storm that is now rapidly changing Malaysia .
The by-election marks Anwar’s return to active politics. But Anwar, a shrewd
politician whose rise from student leader to the number-one man in the
government has been meteoric, had returned to politics the day he was released
in September 2004. This by-election victory, more than filling up the void
left by Dr Wan Azizah, not only brings Anwar back to parliament, but also
answers the question of whether he can really get a decisive margin with which
to implement his plan to take over power by means of defections in Parliament.
Now, with that endorsement in hand, the one-time prime-minister-in-waiting has
never been any closer to the seat he was supposed to occupy ten years ago. The
proximity is also true literally: as the parliamentary opposition leader, he
now sits in parliament face-to-face with prime minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
But being an opposition leader has never been his intention, something he
indirectly made clear days after the opposition coalition denied the UMNO-led
government its traditional two-thirds parliamentary majority, in the general
elections on March 8. He had then already started talking about toppling the
ruling coalition. At that p

Imternational Hijab Solidarity Day Observed In Dhaka

The international hijab solidarity was observed in Dhaka like last four
years. The day is observed against restriction on hijab in france, Turkey and
some other European countries.A national daily has reported that ”Speakers at a
discussion yesterday underscored the need for following the Islamic dress code
for women to maintain decency, dignity, social discipline and protecting the
local culture. In the name of beauty, modernisation and personal liberty our
new generation is being instigated to follow western dresses that are indecent,
dangerous for personal security and detrimental to moral values and social
discipline that is contrary to our own culture, they added. They called upon the
parents to choose decent dresses for their children on the religious and other
social occasions. Their observation came at a discussion on "Dresses: Veil and
Beauty" jointly organised by 'The Witness' and 'Assembly for Protection of
Hijab, Bangladesh' on the occasion of International Day for Hijab Solidarity at
the conference lounge of the National Press Club.
Justice Md Abdur Rouf, former Chief Election Commission (CEC) was present as
chief guest at the discussion, while Nasima Hasan, Chairman of the Witness
presided over. Shah Abdul Hannan, former secretary and Mostafa Kamal Majumder,
Editor of daily New Nation were also present as special guests. Dr Syeda
Sultana Razia, department of Chemical Engineering of Bangladesh University of
Engineering and Technology (BUET) presented keynote paper.
Mahbubul Huq, journalist, Dr Sharmin Islam,Secretary General, the Witness,
Kaniz Fatema, Assistant Prof of Darul Ihsan University and Dr Mira Momtaz
Sabeka, among others, took part in the discussion"

The speakers said only Islamic dresses could ensure guarantee for protecting
dignity, beauty and personality of women in the society. They urged all to wage
a campaign against indecent dresses and encourage women to wear the Hijab.
Justice Md Abdur Rouf said Hijab is the protection of women to save them from
all evils and ensure their personal dignity.
"Many women in Muslim and non Muslim countries put on the Hijab not only on
religion consideration but also for scientific reasons, like protecting
themselves from dust or cold," he said. He hoped that constant campaign would
definitely impress the next generation to put on the Hijab.Shah Abdul Hannan
said Islam does not permit any dress that breaks personal moral values and
social discipline.Dr Syeda Sultana Razia said there is a sharp dissimilarity
over the conception of dresses between Islamic and the Western countries.
Nasima Hasan urged the fashion designers to include and disseminate Islamic
design dresses among the younger generation.

We congratulate the Witness organization and Assembly For protection Of Hijab,
Bangladesh for observing the day and highlighting the need for decent dress and
behavior of all. There is no doubt that Muslim women should not make them like
most western women who have become short-dressed sex symbols as if they are
attracting men folk to them.We believe this hijab movement will benefit the
nation.

Fridays of Ramadan

This is just a reminder to all Muslims that the Fridays of the month of Ramadan
possess an excellence over the Fridays of the other months.

The first friday is upon us so let us take advantage from this excellent day in
this holy month. While we fast let us increase our worship and remembrance
of the Almighty. Let us recite the holy Qur'an, let us brush up on our
knowledge of our deen. Let us make ourselves useful by helping others in any
way possible. This help doesn't necessarily have to be financial, even a smile
is a form of sadaqa. Let us invite people for breaking of the fast.. Let us
teach others the knowledge that we have, and let us learn that which we do not
know. Let us be kind towards towards other people and even animals. He who has
mercy on the creation shall receive mercy from the Creator.

Let us truly humble ourselves and submit to the Will of Allah. Let us truly
become a "Muslim" in this holy month. A journey of a thousand miles begins with
the first step. If we haven't done so already let us start improving ourselves
now, both internally and externally, starting this blessed Friday which is more
blessed than the Friday of other months. Let us then continue our improvement
throughout the month, the entire year and, consequently, the entire life.

Bismillah [IslamCity] Russia SUPPORT for Separatists Could Have Ripples

2008-09-07 Thread Yusuf Ibrahim
*Russia** Support for Separatists Could Have Ripples*

*By PAISLEY DODDS, Associated Press Writer 24 minutes ago *

LONDON - *Russia**'**s conflict with **Georgia** and recognition of its
small breakaway territories as independent states may have broad
repercussions for separatist movements in the former Soviet sphere and
around the world. The crisis could give a jolt of energy to other breakaway
regions, especially those with links to **Russia**, or embolden **China** to
pursue a tougher line in **Tibet** and **Taiwan** in the absence of tough
Western measures.*

"Any country that has a potential separatist movement will view the events
in Georgia through its own unique prism," Richard Holbrooke, the
former U.S.envoy who mediated peace in
Bosnia in the mid-1990s, told The Associated Press. "But the greatest cause
for concern lies in the Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova — all states that
border Russia."

With the exception of the Balkans, post-Soviet era Europe has grown
accustomed to the notion of territorial integrity as stable — if not
sacrosanct. Russian's push into Georgia and its recognition of the
territories of South Ossetia and Abkhazia have undermined this status quo —
and may start to warm up so-called "frozen conflicts" in Moldova's
Trans-Dniester region and Azerbaijan's Nagorno-Karabakh, where Moscow backs
separatist movements.

*Azerbaijan and Armenia are locked in conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, which
is encircled by **Azerbaijan** but controlled by ethnic Armenian forces.
Russia has close historical and economic ties to Armenia, which surrendered
control of key sectors of its economy to **Russia** in exchange for debt
forgiveness. For the Kremlin, the stakes in oil-rich **Azerbaijan** have
been raised by **Washington**'**s plan to build a military base there — a
project that has incensed the Russians, who have a large military
installation in **Armenia** with hundreds of personnel, fighter jets and air
defense systems.*

*Russia** also continues to back the breakaway Russian-speaking **province**of
**Trans-Dniester**, that has split from **Moldova** over its feared
reunification with **Romania**. Russian troops remain stationed in the
province to guard a huge stockpile of Soviet-era military equipment. It**'**s
a situation with eerie echoes to **South Ossetia** — the flashpoint of the
Russia-Georgia conflict — where **Russia** kept "peacekeepers" before the
eruption of this month**'**s war.*

"By illegally recognizing the Georgian territories of Abkhazia and South
Ossetia, Dmitry Medvedev — Russia's president — made clear that Moscow's
goal is to redraw the map of Europe using force," Georgian President Mikhail
Saakashvili wrote in an editorial that appeared in the Financial Times on
Friday.

Perhaps nowhere are concerns about Russian designs in its "near-abroad" so
acute as in Ukraine. The country the size of France with a population of 46
million has long held a special place in Russian hearts and Moscow has been
humiliated by its drive to join the European Union and NATO.

Many now fear Moscow has its sights on the strategic Crimea peninsula on the
Black Sea — once one of the glories of the Russian empire. Russia has not
explicitly declared it wants to regain control of Crimea but nearly 1.2
million of the region's 2 million residents are ethnic Russians, many of
whom believe Crimea should be Russian. Russia has a lease that gives it
control of the Sevastopol military base until 2017 and has hinted that it
does not want to leave when the lease runs out.

*The events in the **Caucasus** have been watched closely by a resurgent **
China**, which has tried to extinguish separatist movements in **Tibet** and
its far western **province** of **Xinjiang**, where **Beijing** says
radicals are trying to set up an Islamic state. For **Beijing**, the
Russia-Georgia conflict may be double-edged. On one hand, the spectacle of *
*South Ossetia** and Abkhazia making a big leap toward independence with **
Moscow**'**s backing may send chills through the Chinese ruling elite as it
struggles with its own separatist movements. *

On the other, the Kremlin's use of military might to reassert dominance in a
region it considers own backyard could set a valuable precedent for Beijing
as it maneuvers to assert its will in places like Taiwan — which China has
vowed to take back by force if necessary. That may account for Beijing's
ambivalent response to Russia's request for support at a meeting last week
in Tajikistan.

China, along with four Central Asian nations, refused to endorse the
invasion or recognize the breakaway provinces — but also criticized the West
and signed a statement praising the "active role of Russia in promoting
peace and cooperation" in the region. "We have our Western friends and those
in Central Asia who are not in agreement with Russian actions. But we also
have a strong relationship with Russia," said

Like previous Ramadhan, our brother Hammad Billah[1] in Bangladesh is
organising and co-ordinating with other fellow brothers, various activities in
order to help the poor and the needy as well as orphans and widows to make
their fasting be as easy as possible and to educate them about their deen. So
that they pray and fast and practise Islam based upon knowledge and not on
culture, custom, tradition and blind following of fore-fathers. So that after
Ramadhan comes to an end, the people still carry on adhering,
practising and traversing upon this religion, learning and acting by it and
being patient upon it. And so that they do not stop practising once the month
of Ramadhan comes to an end. Insha’Allaah.

This is accomplished by setting up temporary guidance and teaching centres in
various localities in and around Sylhet, holding knowledge based lessons,
Qur'an Tajweed classes, Arabic language classes as well Theraweeh in the
evening.

Since Bangladeshis a developing country, majority are poor, thus with education
goes hand-in-hand food and drink for Iftar/Sehri..and is provided free to those
who attend the centres and the local people that live around them. Plus this
project is not just restricted to Ramadhan, but is carried on in other
months…..throughout the year.

This and other projects will not be materialised, except after Allaah's decree

Bismillah [IslamCity] Report: Israeli Bombers Planned to Use Georgian Airfields in Iran Strike!

Report: Israeli Bombers Planned to Use Georgian Airfields in Iran Strike
Posted September 2, 2008
Last Updated 9/3 3:05 PM EST

In part of what was termed Georgia’s “special relationship” with Israel, UPI
Editor at Large Arnaud de Borchgrave reported in a commentary today that a
secret agreement between Georgia and Israel had earmarked two
military airfields in the south of Georgia for use by Israeli
fighter-bombers in a potential pre-emptive strike against Iran.

Israel has been a close ally of the Black Sea republic, and Israeli
contractors have provided the Georgian military with considerable
amounts of training and armament, much to the chargrin of Russia. Israeli
companies have been arming the Georgian military for the past seven years, and
ties have been further strengthened by the fact that Georgia’s Defense Minister
Davit Kezerashvili is a former Israeli.
Russian General Anatoly Nogovitsyn said Israel has provided Georgia
with “eight types of military vehicles, explosives, landmines and
special explosives”.

In perhaps another signal for how key Georgia believes military
support from Israel is, while most of the western media was running
stories about Georgia being completely overrun by Russia’s invasion earlier
this month, Georgia’s Minister of Reintegration was giving an interview to
Israel’s Army Radio.
In it, he praised Israel’s training of Georgia’s soldiers, and credited
it with Georgia’s having inflicted “enormous damage” on Russia’s
military.

And while Israeli defense officials publicly announced a halt to military sales
to Georgia earlier this month, Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili denied
that any halt had taken place. He also said “the Israeli weapons have
proved very effective,” and credited them with Georgia’s military
successes in the brief war with Russia.

Israeli-Russian relations had already been strained amid reports
that Russia was planning to sell Iran its most advanced anti-aircraft
missile system, which prompted a claim from the Israeli military that they were
developing some “electronic warfare” means to neutralize what has become the
backbone of Russian air defense. Iran’s Foreign Ministry denied yesterday that
they had purchased the system.

Another consequence of Israel’s backing of Georgia came when long-time rival
Syria praised Russia’s military operations. This has led to talks of new arms
sales to Syria, and a report that Russia will increase its naval presence in
Syrian ports. Syria and Israel have been engaged in ongoing indirect peace
talks, though those are at present delayed due to the resignation of Israel’s
top negotiator.

Bismillah [IslamCity] hadith: Fasting in Ramadan is equal to 10 months

2008-09-07 Thread Shahid
Fasting Ramadaan is equivalent to fasting ten months
  See Musnad Ahmad, 5/280; Saheeh al-Targheeb, 1/421

Narrated from Abu Ayyoob al-Ansaari:
"Whoever fasts Ramadaan then follows it with six days of Shawwaal, it will be
like fasting for a lifetime."

  Saheeh Muslim (1164)

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
"Whoever fasts Ramadaan, a month is like ten months, and fasting six days
after al-Fitr will complete the year."

  Ahmad (21906)

Bismillah [IslamCity] Virtues of Surah Mulk

2008-09-07 Thread Mohammed A

Reading Soorat al-Mulk protects one from the torment of the grave

Question: Reading Surat al-Mulk protects a Muslim from the trials of the grave,
but how often does one have to read it? Once a day or more?.

Answer:

Praise be to Allaah.

It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet (peace and blessings of
Allaah be upon him) said: “A soorah from the Qur’aan containing thirty verses
will intercede for a man so that he will be forgiven. It is the soorah Tabaarak
Alathi bi yadihi’l-mulk [i.e., Soorat al-Mulk].”
Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 2891; Abu Dawood, 1400; Ibn Maajah, 3786.
Al-Tirmidhi said, this is a hasan hadeeth. It was classed as saheeh by Shaykh
al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah in Majmoo’ al-Fataawa, 22/277, and by Ibn Maajah, 3053.
What is meant is that a person should read it every night, act in accordance
with the rulings contained in it, and believe in the information mentioned in
it.
It was narrated that ‘Abd-Allaah ibn Mas’ood said: Whoever reads Tabaarak
allaahi bi yadihi’l-mulk [i.e., Soorat al-Mulk] every night, Allaah will
protect him from the torment of the grave. At the time of the Messenger of
Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) we used to call it
al-maani’ah (that which protects). In the Book of Allaah it is a soorah which,
whoever recites it every night has done very well.
Narrated by al-Nasaa’i, 6/179; classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh
al-Targheeb wa’l-Tarheeb, 1475.
The scholars of the Standing Committee said:
One this basis there is the hope that whoever believes in this soorah and reads
it regularly, seeking the pleasure of Allaah, learning the lessons contained in
it and acting in accordance with the rulings contained therein, it will
intercede for him [in the Hereafter].
 Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa’imah, 4/334, 335
 And Allaah knows best.

Bismillah [IslamCity] Thought for the day

A THOUGHT

TEN THINGS WE WASTE
-
1. Our Knowledge: Wasted by not taking action with it.
2. Our Actions: Wasted by committing them without sincerity.
3. Our Wealth: Wasted by using on things that will not bring us Ajr (reward
from Allah). We waste our money, our status, our authority, on things which
have no benefit in this life or in Aakhirah (hereafter).
4. Our Hearts: Wasted because they are empty from the love of Allah, and the
feeling of longing to go to Him, and a feeling of peace and contentment. In its
place, our hearts are filled with something or someone else.
5. Our Bodies: Wasted because we don't use them in Ibaadah (worship) and
service of Allah.
6. Our Love: Our emotional love is misdirected, not towards Allah, but towards
something/someone else.
7. Our Time: Wasted, not used properly, to compensate for that which has
passed, by doing what is righteous to make up for past deeds.
8. Our Intellect: Wasted on things that are not beneficial, that are
detrimental to society and the individual, not in contemplation or reflection.
9. Our Service: Wasted in service of someone who will not bring us closer to
Allah, or benefit in Dunya.
10. Our Dhikr (Remembrance of Allah): Wasted, because it does not affect us or
our hearts.

Surah 72. Al-jinn verse 6 And verily, there were men among mankind who took

Bismillah [IslamCity] The wail of Kashmir

2008-09-07 Thread waheedahsan
Ahsan Waheed

It hardly rains, but it pours in India. Were it not enough that the
pent up feelings of Kashmir's Muslims burst the dam with the Amarnath
shrine land deal controversy, India's Maoists have decided to join in
the fray for the liberation of Kashmir. According to a Mathaba News
Agency report, the banned Maoist Communist Party of India (CPI) urged
its appendage, the Peoples Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA)
to "mobilize in support of Kashmiri peoples struggle for azadi
(freedom)".

Labeled Naxalites, India's Maoists are reported to already exercise
control in sundry parts of central-east India (below West Bengal,
where Marxists hold sway), and have been looking to penetrate other
areas rife for rebellion. The wail of Kashmir presented them the
opportunity and the Maoists have called on Kashmiris to resist
the "conspiracy of reactionary rulers to bring in the ghost of
Pakistan to justify the brutal repression of the Kashmiri people's
struggle".

The current struggle is one of "procession and not guns", writes
Muzamil Jaleel in his Khaleej Post Post September 3 column
titled `Kashmir's New Peaceful Resistance', but with militant Maoists
entering the Kashmir picture, there could be a new and dramatic turn
of events, even with the 700,000 security personnel India has
positioned there. India, then, would be better advised to rethink its
policy if it is to assuage the seething discontent that rages in the
valley.

Bismillah [IslamCity] India goes Anti-Christian

2008-09-07 Thread waheedahsan
Raven Gale

About 30 million of India's population is Christian but the Indian
government has failed to prevent the increasing violence against
them. The Government is now exploiting communal tensions for
political ends.

The 37-page report Politics by Other Means: Attacks against
Christians in India by The Human Rights Watch, states the details of
the violence that has been committed against Christians, starting
from the country's National Parliamentary Elections in
September/October1999 and on to the months before and following the
elections. Attacks against Christians throughout the country have
increased significantly since the BJP began its rule in March 1998.

The Human Rights Watch report states horrifying crimes like the
killings of priests, the raping of nuns, and the physical destruction
of Christian institutions, schools, churches, colleges, and
cemeteries. Thousands of Christians have also been forced to convert
to Hinduism. The report states that the attacks against Muslims in
1992 and 1993 were similar to the attacks against the Christians now,
and that they are all a part of a concerted campaign of right-wing
Hindu organizations, collectively called the sangh parivar, to
promote and exploit communal clashes to increase their political
power-base. These groups cannot be separated from the ruling BJP
party, and although eyewitnesses have identified politicians and
local officials as participants in the attacks, the state
administration and Hindu nationalist leaders continue to portray the
incidents as actions instigated by minority communities.

65 churches have been burned down, 600 Christian homes destroyed,
hundreds of Christians forced to flee into forests to save their
lives, and thousands left homeless. Despite promises by state and
central government leaders during meetings with AICC leaders, the
violence continues. Hindu leaders have urged crowds against the
Christian community, inciting them to destroy everything non-Hindu in
their path, accusing Christians of being behind the assassination of
Hindu fundamentalist leader Swami Laxanananda Saraspati, who himself
was behind last December's anti-Christian violence. Laxanananda's
organization is also well known for its opposition to Christian
social activism in favor of Tribals and outcasts and for its
accusations against bishops, priests and nuns for allegedly
proselytizing.

India, which is 83 percent Hindu, is a country of minorities, with
180 million Muslims, 70 million tribal people, 60 million Sikhs and
uncounted millions of others. Each of these groups represents a
potential voting bloc in India's democracy. However, the national
politicians do not consider the 30 million Christians to be in
significant numbers to even have the importance of being catered to
by them.

Christians in India are already discriminated against in government
programs of reservations for jobs and university education. This
program gives preference to people of the lower castes and those
below caste. To qualify for these benefits, applicants must state
their caste origin. Christians, having denounced caste, are unable
even to do this. Yet many Christians come from the very groups for
whom these programs were devised. Why violate people who are already
devoid of their basic rights? How long will India brutalize the life
of its own citizens for its ulterior motives?
